Happy to be proven wrong, but some players could have been out for 6-8 weeks, just to get prime for this game.

Will be a great game nonetheless.

Yeah I was thinking that, but how many players would you want to bring in that have missed 6-8 weeks of footy straight into a final?

Great wins for both sides today saints. Now two weeks to prepare.
Lets go Sainters
strong wins to both teams, plenty of upside as a couple of big names may come back, and a few have more to give.joc 2nds boys a lot quieter than they were at packer a few weeks ago.

being quite a fan of D2 over the past few years, I am actually very interested in SMS in future years, i saw a few of there games this year, but the one that impressed me the most was when they played the JOC's in round 14. They played a very young side and it was very clear that they were not scared of their opposition and not threatened by anyone. the main highlights i took out of this game were:

a 16 year old boy for SMS dominating the game

the courage shown by one of their youngsters going back with the flight, resulting in what looked like a season ending injury

the fact that all of the SMS youngsters kept going in hard all day (honestly i thought after the big fight at quarter time, i thought they would be scared of the ball! especially since i think one of the youngsters started it!)

thats my interpretation of the future for SMS, now that was just one game, so im not too sure how accurate that is. could someone associated with SMS tell me whether they agree/disagree and where they think the club will be in a few years time.

Talked to a couple of SMS boys yesterday, they only had three players over 23 that day, and 7 under 19's playing, the courageous one was their under 19 captain.
Under 19's playing finals with some good talent they will be ok and very happy to be staying in D2. Might be one to keep an eye on !!!

Interesting to note already only 3 clubs can own silverware in d2 this year with only Therry Glen Eira and JOCs in Seniors and Magoos left and that's even before week 2 starts.

Didn't get to Keilor on Sunday but was standing adjacent to some Therry boys who were furiously taking notes during the JOC's/GE match at Sandy.

I think Therry feel they have a physical edge on the JOCs judging by the comments. They feel JOCs play a flashy brand of footy which crumbled under the physical -tackling,crash & bash of GE. So they might take a similar approachto the JOCs this week.

My own view is that the JOCs have more talent around the contest than any other D2 side, but they dick around with a short possession game thru the middle of the ground...& so their forwards have little or no chances '1 on 1'.
Consequently they don't score quickly on a big ground
Their forwards aren't big physical specimens so they need to lead up into space to be effective.
JOCs FF took a couple of solid grabs on the lead, but he had a helluva time waiting ,waiting waiting for the passes to be drilled in as the Jocs went far and wide time and time again just to keep possession.

GE on the other hand were only too happy to bomb it up to Boyd, Dimashki, Spink or "Big Jules" and then let the little guys get front & square.
Given that Paterson didn't even play and they got 13 goals from their 2 tall forwards, I'd say it sounds like a plan.
Even when the JOCs dropped 2 or 3 back to crowd & harass Boyd, the ball spilled into space and scoring opportunities presented to the loose players time and time again.

Therry -if they have all their crew avasilable- have multiple scoring options too-George, Costello plus scoring midfielders-Crotty,Lyon etc.

This is likely to test JOCs & on any large ground if they spend too much time in the middle dinking aroud with short passes, they 'll get punished on the rebound.

Both teams in this week's prelim are worthy of a spot in d1.
Well run, well organised, solid juniors and fiercely competitive week in week out...all the ingredients to progress a little higher than d1 maybe.

Given the split fortunes this year (Banyule undefeated but OPs relegated) it's a bit hard to tell how big the step to d1 is...

Good luck to both teams .
See you in a fortnight.

Great analysis Sayna. I was at the game too and had noticed the short kicking game from JOC's. It worked ok, but was shut down by GE. I think someone has pinched a page from Al Clarkson's game plan, and lets face it, these guys don't have the foot skills of Hawthorn to pull this off.

JOC's fell down around their half forward line with no real target, their FF has been playing in the 2's and only managed 8 senior games. They really lack a few big blokes to take grabs. Therry for my tip this week.

i watched the first half of therry v eltham and thery were too strong from the half back line and had numbers to repell numours eltham attacks .
therry for me this weekend the jocs just lack a realy good ruckman and with carger out they have no big hard bodys in the forward line but good luck to both teams

Although the premiership is the ultimate prize, this weekends game is just as big has it has huge implications for both teams. And I think that the boys from the western suburbs can prevail in both matches.

Seniors.
Preliminary Final
St John's vs Therry Penola

Reserves
Preliminary Final

While I admire your footy smarts...and agree with your tips, your geography needs a bit of work...last time I checked Broady was a northern suburb.

It will be an interesting first few minutes in the Senior game, and as a completely unbiased impartial observer of D2 footy & as a GE supporter, I hope that they belt the living suitcase out of each other for at least 120 minutes and then end up with only 18 fit players each....

just joking.

You're a tool mate. Egglestone didnt play on Boyd that day, and he only kicked 5. Not 8.
if he was the pre game pony with the i pod playing chb, he spent plenty of time on boyd who beat him in every contest, boyd didn't kick 8,i didn't say that, but had a hand in plenty of others. got more votes than contested possessions...........if he was the i pod boy. think you will beat the joc's, all the best

I see the Herald Sun have listed the D2 grand final to be played next Saturday, any ideas for a venue. Sandy or Waverley?

Waited till nearly 10 last night b4 results of the prelim were posted on the Ammos web site. Now 10.40am and still nothing confirming when or where the GF. Still, I spose it is only D2 which, starting with D, hardly ever rates a mention with the hierarchy.
