Fixtures released on the VAFA website now. Any thoughts?
I like that ANZAC day falls on a Saturday. Should be a cracker!

Do you think the Ammos will supply petrol vouchers with all the D2 travel? Its a long way from Old Parade to play the Peninsula cheats

What about the distance from Westbourne to Peninsula???

Wouldn't fancy that trip much!!!

According to Google Maps:

OW to Yarra Valley - 1hr 3 mins
OW to Eltham - 58 mins
OW to Peninsula - 1hr 13 mins

What this means is that I think there will be bus trips in rounds 6,7 and 10. Might even pack a tent.

Word has reached the old dart that the boys from the Garvey have picked up a quality A Grade coach who knocked back an A Grade position in 2009 to coach them in D2.Dont know how they did it but it is big news. Huge get and this I believe is only the beginning. The Raiders are on the rise. Massive appointment.

Although this is a big appointment by Parade Im not sure that it was the best one they could have made. They overlooked a prominent NFL player, whos brother was already playing for them, and could possibly have brought back some ex-students or former team mates. Now Im not doubting the bloke that they did appoint coaching abilities but you can only work with what you have and I cant see him bringing many quality players across with him to help the club get back to its former glory days! I guess only time will tell.

That's a fair hike Akka.

About 4 or 5 years back when we played Peninsula, a few of us booked in at the backpackers in Sorrento for the night, had a few quiet beers in Sorrento that night and then drove back the next day.

Turned out to be a good option!!!

Just wondering does anyone have any connections to therry this year, have they picked up any new players

I find this post quite ironic, 'iknowital!!!!l' with his first and only post asking a question.

Anyway Merry Xmas to you all! May you eat plenty, drink plenty and gain plenty of pounds in the festive season (except my boys of course)

Welcome to all players, coaches and supporters for the 2009 D2 Comp. Last year in D3, the thread was just ok (thanks to the Eltham and Hawthorn morons for their insightful and intelligent comments). Luckily for us, both of them wont be posting on this thread, unlucky for us is that Eltham will be.

I've heard a few beauties around the traps over the last 6 weeks regarding the prospects of some clubs, mainly picking up guns left right and centre, but this happens at the start of every year, so I am very much look forward to hearing all the goss and seeing the results come round 1.

Good luck to all and happy posting

have picked up a few edfl boys with millsy coming across. Should be very competitive.
Mills is working hard to get more over and if he is successful they will have a rather strong outfit.
is it true that corey bannister has gone to edfl(tullamarine), i heard he will be training there monday?

What a dog Mills would be if he tried to get more blokes across, makes u wonder why he went in the first place, if he wanted to play with Northern Saints blokes anyway....Seems he was unhappy with the amount of money being paid in the EDFL - but more than happy to put his hand out for 5 or so years. Poor form....dog.

I'm sure that know one has ever come from Ammos across to EDFL and taken some mates with him. I don't know Mills but if going back to the club your probably started at is a dog act, then there'd be hundreds of them in the VAFA. Maybe you should **** back off to the EDFL board where you belong.

He started at Nth Coburg then went to Coburg and then to Therry and back to Nth Coburg/Nth Saints.

Mills would not have been on much coin in a comparative sense to similar players at other clubs so i wouldn't think that was a major issue.

On the subject of taking players with him. Therry have just signed (or are on the verge of signing) David Rees, Zane Moylan and Michael Muldoon, all very good footballers. I think it is more a reflection on these blokes than it is on Millsy.

Any guy would try and bring some mates across to a new club. Matt O'Connor did it when crossing from Greenvale. Does that make him a dog?

I would have absolutly no issue with Mills crossing to develop himself as a coach at a different club and all that jazz. I'd be more annoyed with the other three blokes that jumped ship.

theyr probably just sick of going no where at a shit club and have probably seen the light finally. Perhaps edfl needs to have a hard look at themselves and the fact is the b grade level is probably just at d2 level in the ammos.

Ok, some people are clearly not capable of discussing a topic rationally. B grade EDFL is a much stronger competition and it would be fairly naive to suggest otherwise. The three have left to play with their friend or perhaps try to win a flag at a lower level of footy.

Northern missed finals by a bees proverbial last year in a superior comp.....therry did what exactly? When the merge happened, players and committee agreed to give it two years to get it up and running. Mocca took very few Jets players with him so as to not alienate people there. Rees is a an out and out gun,,,,Mills old, tired and confused, the other two.... if building a B Grade premiership team they would be playing scooby doos. Good luck to them, but may they live to regret it....!! As for the EDFL having a look at themselves, how about the tatic of VAFA clubs bribing the best 16-18 years olds with free boots and the like, EDFL builds from the ground up.

The top B grade clubs in EDFL would have little trouble dispensing of the better teams in D2 - as in all levels of footy, the standard drops away pretty quickly, so the bottom clubs in each competition would have competitive matches.

Don't think you should be questioning the VAFA's ethics, when you have clubs like Maribyrnong paying under 18's to play at their club, and also I might add, providing them with free footy boots.

You're kidding yourself mate. All clubs do what they can to recruit. The number of players going from VAFA to EDFL would be very similar to that going the other way. EDFL pays and pays the best players well. Therry could have a very good chat about to you about players who have been enticed over the years. Grow up and get over it. It is a fact of football that players will move.Have you not recruited any players from another club this year??

As to the top point, did you sign them all to contracts? Did these say " I shall not move to coaching, nor follow my mates to another club" did they say " even though i do not get on with the coach, and am unhappy, i will still stay" What a load of horse shite. i bet there are many many merged clubs who would liek that deal set in concrete

It happens across all football and it is disappointing to the suffering club in most cases. I think the thing that would make it more disappointing is the four players are all born and bread and rather talented.

The Saints look like moving on quickly and signing a few new players from up bush and Therry have done what any club would do and chase talent. Good luck to both.
