Parade and Therry had a good hit out on the weekend in trying conditions. Both teams showed good signs early and should show improvements on last year.

Think Parade got up by less than a kick but it was a very even contest. Believe Therry were without Bannister and Madden and maybe a couple others but their new midfield looked damaging. Parade had a few out also and will be better for the run. Looking forward to this rivalry continuing this year, always guaranteed a close game and hard slog - and a good bevvie after the game.

Heard Banyule are looking very good early with big numbers on the track. Would have to be early favourites just about wouldn't they??

is peter plugger brabender still playing for parade . he was finished at the snake pit in 1997 when he was playing on back line for op's . the st bernard forwards were licking there lips back then . he surely cant be still going

Sadly yes! Approaching his 400th game this year (still hasn't played a 2s game), amazing stuff. Plays forward these days and is still damaging, kicked around 50 last year - hopefully he doesn't read this and know someone said something good about him!

I find it amusing the past five years I've answered the same question each pre season, not sure when the answer will be different - maybe next year?!

Powerhouse - No thanks. After the terrible exhibition you guys put on last year when we played you, we will be right.

CY's are playing West Brunswick which will be good to see where we are at. Is the Premiership hangover on us? Too early to tell, but the numbers are great, got some very handy U/18's coming up and have recruited well.

We have lost only a couple of players from our premiership, but have filled those positions nicely

Could the Round 1 game between CY's and Therry be the game of the round? Sounds to me it will be.

Hi All. First post for Gas for '09.
Willy gave West Brunswick a bit of a touch-up at the Fearon on Saturday in both the seniors and ressies. Plenty of 1's guys unavailable/rested from the team...would not like to be on the match committee for the first selection night. Numbers are such that Willy are fielding a Club XVIII team this season.
I qualify these comments by saying that yes, there is quantity on the track, but the quality won't truly be known until Rd 1.

CYs did look good.
Didn't really have a dominant KPP but plenty of run, especially from HBF and along the wings. Their small forwards were quality and really knew where the goals were.

My spies tell me Willy, Peninsula, Westbourne, Therry and Banyule will be big players in the race for the D2 flag in 09.

Does anyone care to differ???

Think you could be correct Wamba.....that is some of the information I have been getting. Ran into a few of the Bears boyz and they are sounding pretty good.

This forum very light on thus far.......maybe a few practice games will loosen the collective vocal cords?

Chump.

I think Banyule will be very strong. Had 96 on the track one night so I heard which is amazing numbers even allowing for 19's and clubbies.

Hard to judge early but one of the faves for the flag I'd say!!!

I think yourself and Chump are clutching at straws and spending too much time thinking of the good old days.

Chump, now that you have retired (surely not!) could we interest you in a game of clubbies footy. Will be like the old days.

No thanks Oldtimer .....happy to watch the hoes throughout the year....that's my club, think I might stick with that.

Good luck in the clubbies at the bears.

Chump.

Emmaus St Leo's in D1 have a ground available for a practice match this Saturday, and wish to play anybody from C-D2. Under 18's / 19's, 2's and 1's games available. Please PM me if interested. Good luck for the year.

Quick rundown of some Therry recruits:

Mills - will try n talk his opponent out of the game, slower than he once was after knee reco, but can run all day. And skills r declining. Will walk all over younger opponenents though. Slows the game down, by being last one up off the packs. Very sly and cunning.

Rees - Tall, strong, guna be hard to stop at this level, very few weaknesses. Very good in the air, will kick a few bags.

Tsitonakis - multiple club B n F winner at North Coburg, big engine. Sliky skills, must be tagged, but also be prepared to run off him, his only weakness is the defensive side of his game.

Moylan - Skillful but very feline like, makes huge noises when he takes any body contact. Is still weary of his dodgy collar bone. Beat him early as he can be mentally fragile. Likes to run wide.

Morgan - Mobile ruckman, skillful, agile, but wont run hard defensively

Muldoon - Possibly over-rated, known to kick bags against Jacana and other terrible sides but is shown up, when up against players of class, can play fwd or back.

That made me laugh. A lot of it is very spot on. Moylan does make grunting noises when taking body contact.
Rees isn't tall, more solid with one of the best set of hands i've seen at local level for a bloke his age.
The other one is Anderson, a reliable full back who is rarely beaten. You need a big body to play on him if your full forward likes to play out of the square. Otherwise push him wide. Racks up the spoils when on leading forwards.

Thats because you have no idea about who we have recruited :) And its Northern Saints mate......

Also:
Pascoe - If he gets a regular gig, Therry are struggling. No offence.
Kenny - Long left footer, but lazy and lacks fitness, has done no pre-season what so ever

funny that because u boys love bagging ur players once they have left. All the boys are fitting nicely in the side this year.

Thats right wouldnt no who you have recruited but i no who you have lost and its not just to therry, also greenvale and sunbury.
So says alot about people thinking your club is going places. But good luck northern saints!

Well done genius. Fact is one left to go to Sunbury to play with a cousin and his mate followed (his mate wont get a game in Sunburys two's). The Greenvale bloke has gone to play at a higher level.

Wasnt so much bagging the guys that went to your lovely D2 club, just giving a rundown of them positives and negatives. And truth be told we werent going to go anywhere with the attitude those blokes had ie. EDFL is too tough, so and so are recruiting, we just wanna win a flag and we dont care how terrible the standard of the comp is. The fact is they did the dirty on the club en masse. The only club they could go to together was an ammos club as the EDFL has anti-poaching rules in place to prevent this. Fact is a dog is a dog and these boys will fit right in.....

By the way good luck in your sub-standard rabble comp in 09. Wonder if the VAFA know the sort of money being thrown around down there????
