Full respect must go to Glen Eira from now on, from what I heard Old Westbourne was one the teams to beat this year, because of their recruiting. No wonder game on & phantom have been offline, they've been keeping their cards close to their chest

Eltham was an upset for mine, or is it strong home ground advantage on Kangaroo Poo Reserve? Boundy kicked 4 for the visitors so they had the firepower & good to see Brabender kicking 3 in his 625th VAFA game :D

Bentleigh scrapped home in a scrappy affair, with the Double Blues refusing to give in, very tight game indeed.

St Leos had the wood over SMS who seemed to have lost a few from last years Grand Final, or were they just injured. Maybe Griff or Bails might be able to fill us in?

Banyule as expected (my opinion only) got the points easily over Therry, who can't be judged just yet as I think Banyule will get promoted this year.

But as previous posts its only early days yet, but good to have some posts in here; has been like a ghost town or have team got their poker faces on?

Banyule had far too much pace for Therry. The boys across the middle dominated at the Therry center line refused to man up. They were their own worst enemy going forward, kicking high and sideways. Too often over possessing - at one time handballed 5 or 6 times across the field in an attempt to go forward.

We had a few missing Sniper, but so did they!!! We just had a very disappointing day..they were pretty good (Baranello brothers were very good!), We just didnt turn up to play...

Eltham were fantastic and play the ground beautifully. We had a good first half leading by 28 points close to half time. Eltham were more committed in the second half and deserved their win. Do not underestimate them. We will get better over the next few weeks with several players to return.

Great game at Glen Eira. Also great to see Old Westbourne boys stay back for a drink. Must have remembered the Saints having a drink at their ground from last year.

Sniper what Griff is is referring to is our awful 3rd quarter where the game was lost. We led at half time. The animals kicked 6 goals in about 10 minutes at the start of the 3rd and that was the difference. With 10 minutes to go was only 3 goals the difference. Perhaps the score board flattered them a little but they were clearly the better side on the day and deserved the win. We controlled the game in the first half but couldn't convert that into score board pressure and they made us pay. Their experience showed through in the end. Good lesson for our blokes what is expected in this division. Last year we would have probably won a game like that when we were off our best by 3-4 goals. This year against good opposition we were made to pay and if we dont play at the top of our game we will be found out. As was mentioned a different side from last years grand final but definitely not an excuse. The had 2 key players out as well. We have lost a few from last year but have picked up a few as well. No excuses, lesson hopefully learnt

I went up and watched the turtles Vs parade game on sat arvo. Was a great game, first half honours went to parade, but the turtles were the far fitter team in the day and ran away with it.

The midfield dominance of the turtles was evident during the game. The two turtles ruckman totally dominated the parade guys. And the turtles fwd line looked and was alot more dangerous.

Looking forward to seeing how these two teams go throughout the season.

Cheers guy.

I'm not sure what thread you've been reading but I'm pretty much the only Bentleigh poster on here this year & I've didn't put us in the top 4. So you've confused me a bit there.

prehaps cos of the Big Footy mindset is that just because there's no Prahran poster on here, no one is rating them, I can tell you we are. They're coming down from D1 for god sake.

Sniper, well done on your great win.
Had to many lunch time beers on Friday and realise i was far to harsh for no reason

ill eat my humble pie!!!!

How was banyules win, must set the standard for this year

Our first round 1 win for a number of years Sniper. Whilst numbers and quality on the track have drastically improved you never know how you'll fair until round 5 or 6 as others have suggested. Westbourne too have been slow starters over the last few years and so it is difficult to get a real feel for where we are.

Looking forward to the local clash this week. An amazing game last time we played at Bentleigh Reserve. The winner will set themselves up nicely for the rest of the year.

Tips for Round 2

Glen Eira - 2pts
Westbourne - 13pts
St Leos's - 24 pts
Eltham - 66pts
Banyule - 40pts

Doing tips on a Thursday so the Friday lunch beers dont influence a clear mind :)

Tips for this week:

Glen Eira to beat Bentleigh. No Roberston for Bentleigh? Is this true? Patterson killed us last week, always plays in front. Spink also did some great ruckwork in the middle. I'm thinking he will do the same tomorrow. the Saints by 7 goals.

Old Westbourne to notch up our first win. SMS were okay last week apparently, and it is always hard at ESL. The small ground is interesting as SMS play it very well, but hopefully it will bring Critta Hudson into play. Expect a big game from him. The Warriors by 1 point.

Old Paradians
to beat St Leos. Could easily go either way this one. I think OP's are too good to go 0-2. Especially at home. Match of the round no doubt. Parade by 3 points.

Therry v Eltham. Can't go past Eltham. Showing great early form beating the pre season favourites. Therry are obviously thruggling but I'm tipping they won't play two bad games in a row. Eltham's legs might get them over the line. The turtles by 23 points.

Prahran v Banyule. Some new names in Banyule's best, great signs for the bears. Not sure about Prahran yet. Banyule by55 points.

What's the story down at Glen Eira this year? Who have they recruited? Look a completely different side to the one that ran out last year.

Apparently GE recruited Mimo someone from St kilda City, those who follow SFL will tell you he's a absolute gun. But didn't see him line up today nor play last week, so who knows??

Well they got comprehensively beaten today by Bentleigh. 6 or 7 goals in the end I think. Will certainly need to improve on that effort to be considered a chance at finals footy for this season. Missing a few I'm told but who isn't.

No ammo side could afford Mimo, he follows the $. I think he's playing in Shepperton this year.
