A Bentleigh was reported, was he not?

Sniper, wasn't reported on the day. An investigation has been launched and clubs will be contacted this week. Boundary umpire witnessed and lodged report.

Banyule player went to hospital on Saturday night, still can't open eye. Well Done to your coach on removing player for the rest of the game. Very Ordinary incident but will be dealt with in due course.

Interesting points Emilio - thirds didn't kick uup a stink, committee made the decision weeks ago. As we have 4 double headers 2 occasions the thirds will play before the seniors and 2 occasions they will play on the back oval. The 3's play on the back oval this week.

Only repeating what a grounds official had said when I asked where the Banyule v Bentleigh 2's game was and he said he wasn't overly happy about it

However, if we delve further into your report it is quite evident that you are indeed from Bentleigh and more than likely a player.

1) Who sends a spy to watch a reserves game especially on a cold morning in May. If you are going to Spy on a reserves game you would do it closer to finals time.

I'm not a spy and I wasn't sent down, I am a supporter of OP's however took the opportunity being fairly close to home to watch 2 x first vs second matches

2) How would you know about complaining if you weren't out there. If you are spying you will generally be watching the game and match ups, etc. Not listening to talk on the fiels.

The complaining was clearly audible from the sidelines

3) If you are from OP's as you state (and i don't tnink you are) then why wouldn 't you go and watch them at some stage considering that they were playing 5kms away.

Im pretty sure as your very astute eye would of noticed my report on the 1's game finished at half time with no more comments about the 3rd and 4th quarter. Unfortunately I did return to catch the 3rd and 4th at home to see us throw away a lead

4) And this is the clincher. The real Parade spy was at the senior game and watched the first quarter and a half before leaving. I don't think any club would send 2 spies.

Again i'm not a spy just a supporter

Maybe your gripe against Sharp (who I thought was fantastic on Saturday) is more a point that he may be taking your spot for a game.;)

No gripe against Sharp (assuming that is number 14), just on the day the 2 young boys impressed where as the older guy didn't in my opinion.

Hopefully that can clear all your conspiracy theories

banyule's boundry umpire should have a good look at himself abusing bentleigh's trainers and coaching staff! As for the hit behind play saw the end of it, a very poor effort from the bentleigh player but in saying that the bloke from bayule was asking for it, he was kidney punching the benleigh player

Surprised to see the scoreline in the seniors match between Banyule & Bentleigh. I still think they're good enough to finish in the top two though (Bentleigh).

Their ressies are still the team to beat it seems.

I thought both games may have been a bit closer, but interesting results nonetheless.

Wouldn't surprise me. Banyule are an aggressive lot. When you play them you do have to watch the elbows and kidney punches. Sounds like the Bentleigh player got sucked in and got caught

Bentleigh must be so proud to have you on their side. A fair difference between a kidney punch and what has been described from other posts as a king hit.

mate it was no where near a king hit. it was a square elbow to the head, if the bloke wasn't busy punching the bentleigh bloke he would have saw it comin

I headed down early to the banyule v bentleigh match to catch the first of the 1 v 2's games to be shocked that they had been thrown on the back paddock. After talking to a Banyule volunteer it appears that the 3rds picked up a stink that they never get to play before the 1's so never get a crowd. If common sense prevailed they should of been told they can have the next home match as this was 1 v 2 in 1sts and 2nds so sorry 3rds your on the back paddock but it was not to be. What I witnessed in the first 2 quarters from bentleigh was some quick hard football with incredibly accurate finishing. Bentleigh's 2 upfront just couldn't miss and were finishing from all angles. Bentleigh seemed to have to much speed across the park and completely dominated and it could of been a bigger lead had there speed been utilised on the main field. In the 3rd banyule came back into the match outscoring 5goals to 3goals but one could sense the match was just pittering out as Bentleigh had done the hard yards in the first half and were quite comfortable while Banyule were determined to try and get as physical and complain as much as possible.

Onto the main game and from the warm up it looked like Banyule were going to be the team to beat. There kicks and marks were crisper and they just seemed to be more up for it and that was before the whistle blew. 1st quarter was quite even with bentleigh taking an early lead and scored a late one to remain close at quarter time. Albeit I thought bentleigh wasted enough opportunities to actually be in the lead at quarter time but it wasn't to be.

The second quarter started and so did the demolition. Everything Banyuke touched turned to gols and bentleigh were no where near them. At one stage the bears kicked 5 in 4 minutes and that then was game set and match. A 12 goal 2nd term was truly something to watch and from seeing nearly all teams now I think its banyule first and a space 2nd.

As for bentleigh they were simply too small across the park and couldn't capitilise on their normally dominant speed but had patches when they did go wide that would of given the demons faithful plenty of hope for a top 2 position at the end of the year. From a mutual point of view I don't think it will be long until the old guy that sat in the goal square in the forward line (14) is back in the 2's and either of the 2 front men from the 2's are in the ones as they really were good to watch with their finishing.

And Banyule, if they perform like that every week nobody will get close to them for the rest of the season. The one area they could easily improve is the ruck and brining the 23 from the 2's up would be an immediate improvement.

As for me back to watch my OP's next week!!

Nice essay emilio, good on ya...u must love your footy!

In relation to the 2's game I think your spot on about the speed and accuracy of Bentleigh in the first half. I thought it was a much more even contest in the second half and think the next encounter may be more interesting.

23 is a handy player and jagged a few nice ones after having a very quiet first half. the other key forward might need to get off the junk or he may not be able to raise his arms above his head by the seasons end, but he too was very accurate in front. i agree it is surprising that they have not been thrown in to the 1's, based on accuracy alone.

I think the 1's sent a message to the rest of the league and may have a few sides worried.

the reason he got sucked in is because he had 5 goals kicked on him in the 2nd quarter.anyway banyule will be looking forward to playing number 24 later in the season..

Mate, that's pathetic... let's not be a hero behind a keyboard!

On the game, Banyule used the ball a lot more effeciently out of the middle. Helps when you've got a dominant ruckman and a good midfield set-up!

Banyule:

#10 - gun, wins his own ball and has great delivery to his forwards!
#11 - kicked straight and solid dukes, probably best CHF in the league.
#4 - Great set-up player who is clearly a general in the team!
#15 - kept getting the footy lace out on the tit, converted though!

Bentleigh:

#44 and #11 - battled hard all day and probably the only 2 real stand outs.

The rest just didn't turn up ready to play!

On a final note and suprised this hasn't been mentioned earlier, but Banyule is by far the most hospitable club, what a spread they put on for after the game... 2 platers of fresh sandwiches and fruit to the opposition straight after the game! :thumbsu:

This weeks matches are crucial for a lot of the sides before the break!

He has all the attributes to be a very good player. I'm surprised he doesn't play senior footy more often. Does he not fit in the Bentleigh forwardline mix or is that he wants to play with his mates? Not a dig at anyone at all, just seems to punch out some great numbers.

Lets put all the crap aside and concentrate on the footy.

In regards to the hospitality normally we roll up the roller door and spend time mixing before going into social rooms for a drink as well but the roller door was broken on Saturday. I also thought Lawry never gave up for the entire day.

Also does Graham only play when the Supers aren't playing. I noticed that he is captain of the Marcellin Bald Eagles and plays with Dimma.

Good call Oldtimer. I look forward to sharing a sandwich with you later in the year when we play at Bear Park.

On to this weeks matches.

Bentleigh take on the now second placed Therry Penola. A lot of people wrote Therry off earlier in the year after their big loss at Banyule. As it turns out everyone seems to get belted there. This will be a close game. Benleigh will have the leg speed but Therry have the more damaging forward line. Bentleigh to bounce back but only just. Bentleigh 2 points.

St Mary's Salesian take on Eltham at the postage stamp. St Mary's have been getting better and had a good win away last week. Eltham need to win this one as they have Westbourne right up their clackers. Eltham drop the games they should win but I can't see them dropping this one. Eltham by 8 goals.

Glen Eira take on Prahran. Glen Eira have pushed the 2 top teams in the last 2 weeks and have been by all reports unlucky to lose. Prahran have dropped right away after 2 big wins earlier in the year. Glen Eira to get their season back on track. GE by 8 goals.

Banyule host Parade. Looking back through the results the bears have won 3 from 3 at home with the smallest margin being 97 points. Parade's away form has been terrible. Stats say this game could get messy however I don't see it that way and expect Parade to have real crack but expect the class of banyule to prevail. Banyule by 7 goals

Westbourne host ESL. Westbourne after a slow start are gaining momentum and I expect they will win this one quite comfortably.
Westbourne by 10 goals

Bentleigh by a two goals after a dissapointing loss last week. Therrry have been superb after starting off slowly.
St Mary Salesian in an upset by a kick.
Glen Eira by 6 goals..not sure what has happened to Prahan after a great start..Spink has been in the best every game and is playing well, would be great for them to have Bongo back at full forward, gives them a few more options and he is a proven goal kicker, smart player.
Banyule to beat Parade by 12 Goals. Spithill and Boundy having great years, no real surprise that though..
Old Westbourne by 8 goals over ESL. :thumbsu:

Whats the go with him this year? Looks like he has only played a few games this year. Has his body run its race???

He has had a few problems with injury buddy, should be back after the break I think..Peterson kicked a bag in Round 1 against Westbourne, but has been playing down back now, Dimashki kicked 5 about a month ago and Bongo kicked 6 V Parade...I think with him back and Dimashki they will be a lot better team, have been a bit unlucky the last few weeks.

Andrew Spink could be a go from Glen Eira for the comp medal ? he is a solid unit who is doing well. :thumbsu:

Totally agree 23 needs to have a run purely for rewarding a player. He has one of the best goal instincts at the club and SHOULD have had a run. People question a few of his traits but is very creative around goal and has an uncanny goal sense.

The other big key forward despite popular belief is not on the juice at all. He actually hasn't hit a gym since the start of the season. Are you admiring his gains? He will be promoted in due time I imagine as his last few weeks has been very good. Just needed his confidence back I would imagine and is still young and needs the experience of senior football.

Bentleigh had a very down week, I did not see it but from all accounts Banyule were firing especially in the second quater and were dominated out of the middle led by the ruckman from Banyule. I'm sure Bentleigh will be froffing at the bit next time to atone for such a poor result.

Time for a Bentleigh fwd reshuffle me thinks...
