What's the main reason for you blokes leaving? I notice that you have been put straight into Div 2 going off your coach advert.

Simple answer: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Ten years in the Ammos and never got higher than D2. One premiership and 3 losing Grand Finals.Not an impressive record.You only have to look at Parkside who left the Ammos about 5 years ago and thought they were going to conquer the world. They have been stuck playing the Div 3 in the Northern league against pub teams who cannot progress any higher as they would get smashed.Meanwhile you look at a club like Oakleigh who were playing in D3 & D2 for a number of seasons at the same time Bentleigh was in this grade, but put their heads down and really developed a successful junior program.Now playing in B Grade.I appreciate that Bentleigh was in a lot of debt when the left the SFL, but I also remember reading the article in the Leader where they were bemoaning the lack supporters that were attending their games. I just hope the brains trust have done their homework as they could be looking to merge with Glen Eira in 5 years.

You'd probably think it would to sorted out at the VAFA AGM wouldn't you? When ever that is.

A decision to keep SMS in D2 would happen after we've been agreed upon by the SFL clubs to let us into their comp. Then the request would be put to AFL Victoria, then the VAFA formally informed of the decision, who incidentally have a week to protest the decision.

I can't see this happening though, as its not as if Bentleigh are crippling the Association by withdrawing. This procdure would be the same if the other clubs rumoured also agree to depart.

Long story short - it could take a while before you formally know if you're still in D2

Could have dramatic implications for other clubs if it's more than one, and obviously have a strong degree of self interest in this one.

I guess it's confirmed that Bentleigh have officially applied for entry in to the SFL judging by your comments, but are there any other clubs confirmed to be on the move?

So it would seem in all reality only Bentleigh have seriously considered it and subsequently acted on it then?

I only know of clubs that have been approached. It might be the case that we are the only ones moving this year. But I reckon more might follow in the next two years. It took the SFL 3 years to get us across. But every club is different, you have to move for the right reasons

We thought the move could best secure the future of the club. The decision was voted unanimously by both by players, committee & supporters. Don't get me wrong, I was a big knocker of the SFL in years gone by & am older enough to have played when we were previously in the competition. I used to be of the thought that the SFL was dying & would be down to 2 divisions by now.

But I think the more recent SFL administration have steered the sinking ship & getting back on course to be a decent competition. Our reasons for leaving are varied and no more relevant than the other. But here's the things that the SFL offer that the VAFA can't.

•A local competition (SFL Division 2: 15 mins average traveling time not including Skye). B Section would be our closest comp on the VAFA & that's unrealistic for us
•Supplied umpires across all grades, 1s 2s 3s & Colts.
•No fines for minor off field/on field infringements. SFL prefer an education process
•Lower annual affiliation fees
•Lower pricing on footy apparel. ($60 per jumper as opposed to $80)
•Ability to serve alcohol but in a controlled environment (when, where, how long & how much)
•No league junkets to Sydney, QLD & NZ to keep fees down
•One personal board member allocated to each club for queries, complaints etc. (1 board member handles 3 clubs)
•SFL CEO's regular president functions between clubs.

So the SFL has a lot to offer, for clubs this side of the Yarra, those looking to join a boutique league. I think now that one club has joined, it will get others thinking & eventually follow in the future. All I'm is saying is we're trying to "get more bang for our buck"

Well done to West from St Marys for winning the Fairest and Best Player in Div 2 and to Banyule - clearly the best team and showing signs of moving up the grades quickly especially with young players like Truefeldt at the club.

Was there a Div 2 TOTY Selected ? Most year's the VAFA comes up with a side for each division. Good luck to all next year in whatever format the VAFA comes up with.

Haha nah I'll be checking in from time to time to see what's happen in D2 but obviously posting a lot less. This may be a godsend for some

Murrumbeena would definately be the closest, closely followed by Oakleigh Dist. Won't need to fill up the tank for most games that's for sure

Haha I see the Doctor with a PHd in Truth has been frequenting the SFL board of late. Maybe have a chat to your club & join us over in the SFL. It would be perfect for your club, think of the kms you'll be saving.

Unfortuately for The Guru but fortunately for us, Bentleigh has reappointed Lex Munro again for season 2011. Maybe next year Guru?
