A good round 1. With the six teams for D2 2009 playing against each other and the promoted sides playing the relegated sides. Should give us a good indication of where teams will be at compaired to last year.

My boys at Glen Eira should be happy with their draw. Play rounds 1 and 18 at home (we have not had a home round 18 game for a number of years)!

I've noticed that Snipers boys have got a strange draw alot of playing 2 home games then 2 away games! quote]
___________________________________________________________

Yeah it is a little weird. I never had a draw like it since I've been playing, but I quite like it. I think it will be advantageous for us, travelling wise.

For those who care, round by round, suburb by suburb it goes a little something like this:
Bentleigh,
Bentleigh,
Burwood,
Bundoora,
Bentleigh,
Glen Iris,
Heidelberg,
Bentleigh,
Bentleigh,
Carnegie,
Eltham,
Bentleigh,
Bentleigh,
Truganina
Oak Park,
Bentleigh,
Benteigh,
Prahran

Long story short, we have two home games, followed by a close away game, before a long trip, rather than home game then a far away game etc. I like it, bring on 2010!!

What's the difference - you have to play 9 at home and 9 away!!!

You play Westbourne then Oak Park in consectutive weeks how does that work out to be a close away game, then a long trip!!

Long trip - 40 mins in a car!!! - you had better leave the night before so as to avoid car lag!!!

Well done Sherlock Holmes for stating the obvious, I thought someone with no life would pick the eyes out of my post.

Just reponding to another post Twiggy & getting some talk going on here, a it's a little quite in the off season. As I said I like this draw & it might be advantageous for us, don't really about your club.

OK, lets get some talk going - tell us about your new playing assistant - Nick Ducan.

Has a pretty good resume - what position, height, weight, likes, dislikes, etc

I can only go on the resume as well Twiggy as we haven't started training yet. (start tonight actually).

Met him 2 weeks ago though, had a quick chat, so sorry can't fill in the profile on him just yet. But you'd say he'd play an important position on the field.

hi guys
a long time ammo supporter
just interested in seeing how some clubs have gone with settling in new recruits and also replacing some key departures.
Are the rumours true that Bannister has left Therry?? If so a 100+ goal kicker is hard to replace.

Young Boundy has been training at Parade I believe. What a tremendous young man if he decides to return and what a tremendous lift to the club. Good on you kid.

gday to all for the first time in this forum this preseason!!

looking forward to adding comments, getting involved in group discussions & talking about all things relating to d2 football.

i trust all clubs are in full swing with a few sessions before the end of year so good luck to all!!

Welcome back for 2010

Any news on recruits and departures for this season

Which clubs have recruited well and where have the players come from

Happy New Year to all D2 participants in 2010! With training about to commence over the next few weeks for majority of sides it would be great if we could spark some conversation on the year ahead. Out of all the Ammos threads we really are letting the the forum down!

I look forward to relaying back information once we commence back on the track, in the meantime I look forward to other teams information over the next few weeks. Hopefully this forum will be a great source of conversation and debate about all things D2 in 2010.

All reports from the EDFL end is that he has signed with Paco.

Can anyone from Therry confirm the rumours at this stage? No doubt a big loss, is this an isoloated departure or will there be a few leaving together?

News coming to OS is that young Boundy will play at Parade. Full credit to the young man if this is so. And what a boost to the club.

So any ladder predictions for 2010?

OK I'll have a go. Got some right, some wrong last year, but will be going into this a little blind.

St Leos - Demoted from D1, but big difference from D1 - D2, will be strong enough to take the flag IMO, if they keep their list
Banyule - Has been strong D2 team of the last 3-4 years, worthy of promotion
Prahran - Know little about this team, other than demoted from D1, will be keen to be promoted back, toss up between them & Banyule. Could even win the flag.
Old Westbourne - Will be strong opposition & already have a talented team, with good offseason recruiting, they will make the finals
Old Paradians - Will Boundy be the difference b/w them making finals or not - time will only tell.
Therry Penola - Rumoured big losses from key players departing, if true it will hurt their finals aspirations
Bentleigh - will be keen to finish higher than this, will have to recruit well in the offseason to make the finals, big step from D3 to D2
SMS - as above
Eltham - apologies to Eltham, know little about this team, this prediction could come back to bite me. Finished around 7-8th last year in 2009 I think?
Glen Eira - Demoted? Who knows, have been in D2 for a while know, did have a strong finish to 2009 after been down this end for the 1st half of the year. Someone has to come last

Not a bad effort with you not really knowing alot about the other teams that you have not played for a while.

You might want to keep your ear to the ground relating to your local rivals at Packer Park. Looks to have only lost 2 players to retirement and forward Ryan Clark who is overseas for 12 months. But have already picked up, up to 15 new players (5-6 would walk into the senior side). Have already had the best pre season in a number of years and are looking strong.

My tips

Old Westbourne - Agree with Sniper, emerging as a strong club
Prahran - a toss of the coin on which way they will go. I think up.
Glen Eira - have the potential to beat all side home or away.
St Leos - are a good club and should be their abouts

Old Paradians - A little like Glen Eira, If the gap between best and worst games closes then they could be in for a good year.
Bentleigh - Looks to have grown up from last stint in D2.
Banyule - looks to have lost some players and may find it harder this year
Therry Penola - Will need to find someone to fill Bannister shoes. could struggle
Eltham - May need to do a Williamstown, get demoted and come back to D2 stronger
SMS - May not be up to it.

I don't think I'm brave enough to put my gonads on the line and make a ladder prediction at this time of the year but having said that going purely by observations and my limited knowledge I will have a guesstimate of who will end up roughly where.

Historically of the demoted and promoted teams, one has generally done well while the other has struggled, it's certainly far from fact but I will use this logic as a guide. Firstly the demoted sides, to be completely honest I don't know enough about Prahran so I won't pretend to and therefore they would be my pick of the two to not make finals. On the flip side I expect St Leos to do well as they have a good solid core of quality players capable of getting them back to finals action.

Of the demoted sides I would expect the premiers Bentleigh to do well, whether they can do a Williamstown I don't know but it is good to have another quality ground in the league.

St Mary's are a very proud football club and no doubt they will trouble sides with their ability to grind out wins on their postage stamp but I don't expect them to be playing for promotion.

Purely going by Glen Eira's feedback through bigfooty I'm excited!!! Their quality players are as good as any in the comp and if they have recruited depth as we're lead to believe than I expect them to do well next year. Hopefully they have picked up someone capable of kicking a bag because that's what they need more than anything especially with Clark gone, a lot depends on this factor.

Banyule are a quality club who field 3 seniors sides as well as an under 19 side, that is a recipe for success. They compete with a lot of clubs within the area so they are prone to turn a few players over but I still expect them to be a strong side and would surely have finals on their mind.

Therry started last year on fire and were as good as anyone in the early rounds but were not able to sustain it for various reasons. The alleged departure of Bannister will not help them and they would need to replace him and than some in order to make the next step, finals would be the aim but the losses will hurt.

Eltham, I like the way they play their football and they do posses some of the better individual players in the competition. No representatives for them on the web so it's hard to tell how they're looking, provided they've kept their list and are able to add a few I would say finals are on the cards.

As for Parade, Boundy is the million dollar question, he is good enough to get them to finals alone if he plays but will he? If yes they are finals bound, if no than borderline...

Finally my boys Westbourne, this time of year there are plenty of empty promises and as yet we haven't locked any new recruits in just yet. I'll wait and see what turns up at preseason but having said that we appear to have only lost 2 senior players from last year and no doubt we would be looking to capitalise on our second half form with the same group.

It all makes for an exciting 2010 with still so many questions to be asked and answered before we've even played a game!

Who cares about predictions. The important thing is that the Bentleigh ferals go back down where they belong with scum.

ladder predictions mean jackshit, everyone writes every other side off besides there own, we will see by rd 5 or 6 whos pretenders and whos contenders
