Why don't you read through the archives of D2 and D3 big footy and see how many have commented on your club. Do you think they all have an obsession? Some examples, Killerwasp, Number70, Nostradamus, Eggbert, Drybones, Twiggy Monsen. There are many more that are obsessed with your club in the archives.

Sorry mate, if you hadn't picked up on it I'm obviously a Bentleigh player, so what else am I going to talk about? Don't really get to see too many other clubs play each weekend!

And as "feral" as we are, this week it's the first time in my 3-4 years of playing senior footy that I've known of any of our 1s players being suspended. Someone may correct me if they recall any incidents but I don't know of any myself.

Oh well, there is a fair bit to keep people talking in the week off! Personally it's great to see our club sitting top 2 in both sections at this stage. Last time we gave this division a crack both sides won 2 games each for the year. We've come a long way :thumbsu:

Some very interesting discussions going on, I think I'll stay away from them though, getting a little spicy!!

My thoughts on the season so far:

Banyule: Huge changes in regards to their list since last season. Number 14, 10-Walsh and Ash Brown up forward are all guns. Hard to go past them at the moment. They beat 2 of the top 4 by 100+ points, but they have been beaten by Prahran and Paradians. My question is how?

Bentleigh: Haven't played them yet but they seem to have made the jump to D2 very nicely, and Robertson hasn't really been starring. Watch out for him in the second half of the season.

Old Westbourne: we started the season terribly, but have hit form and of recent weeks. Had a lot to do with some positional changes. The form of Pavez, C.Hudson and Justin Johns has been excellent also.

Therry Penola: Completely outclassed us on our track when we played them. Costello is a really athletic, dangerous forward and is having a great year. Egglestone at CHF is a great lead up target as well. Not sure if they can continue their form the whole way through but have done everything right so far.

Eltham: started off with a bang and have a great addition of Ciavola up forward. Crooks is one the comps best ruckmen, Powell and Galvin are always hard to stop.

Glen Eira: not sure how to read into them. They belted us in round 1 with Paterson kicking 7, Now it seems he has gone to defence and Dimashki is their main target. Spink is always in their top 3 players and is integral to them getting first use. The old timers in Diamond, Tsigoriannis just keep producing. I think they will be roundabout come finals.

Old Paradiams: Inconsistant. Lost to St. Mary's then beat Banyuile by 50 points!! No doubt Boundy is a gun but they need others to step up. I think they are missing Sage down forward, however they are too good a team to be 7th. expect a big second half of the season.

St Mary's Salesian: Very competitive. Have played in a lot of close games and are unlucky to be 8th. Singh is a gun and sets them up from halfback.

Emmaus St Leos: Played them last week and they didn't look interested. Nath Baranello and Beluszar didn't play. Hickey and Paul Baronello are great players for them, and Ballard is a good ruckmen. They seem very unaccountable for mine.

Prahran: I don't know how they beat Banyule. They're inconsistant at best and don't seem to have enough big name players. Goal kicking is a problem also, with only Sleight and Stewart in double figures.

Thoughts on the above?

with the break this week no combined games if there was a d2 team how would you guys pick your side

CB I mite have a go at a Div 2 Team - may spark a bit of debate and interest. (have not seen all teams but will go from other poster's opinions and some results)

BP FB BP

Fridman (Bent) Fisher (St Mary's) Lawry (Bentleigh)

HBF CHB HBF

# 1 (Bent ?) Gayfar(Banyule) Sing (St Mary's)

W C W

Hickey (ESL) Pavez (Old West) Swinden (Bent)

HFF CHF HFF

P.Baranello (C) Boundy (Parade) Hudson (Old West)

FP FF FP

(VC)Brown (Ban) Ciavola (Eltham) Costello (TP)

Ruck RR R

Spithill (Parade) Dillion (Eltham) Wills (Bent)

Interchange:

Spink (GE) - Probably should be in the starting 18 but ive gone with a few other talls up forward and a couple of smaller ones in Baranello and Costello to crumb and work hard defensivly.

West (SMS) Had a good year.

Parthenides (Banyule)

Alex Tsirogiannis (GE)

Note:

Foxy Beluzar would be a walk up start in this side along with James Robertson, but have been injured and missed some games so I have left them out - Both are absolute guns.

There are plenty of others that could be in it or out of it, but I thought I'd have a go CB.

Anyone care to have a crack at one themselves ?

P.S - Well done also to David Boundy for getting in the final VAFA side for the main interleague game this w/e V AFL Sydney. Terrific to have a player from the Division represent the BIG V! :thumbsu:

good summary Akka.

I'll add some notes to yours

Banyule: Huge changes in regards to their list since last season. Number 14, 10-Walsh and Ash Brown up forward are all guns. Hard to go past them at the moment. They beat 2 of the top 4 by 100+ points, but they have been beaten by Prahran and Paradians. My question is how? Clearly the benchmark side. I think OPs was a hiccup game and Banyule not used to wet conditions and are used to skillful quick games rather than a slog in the wet. The wet would have given OPs confidence as they knew it would be hard for banyule to get a clean possie. As for the Prahan game, no idea, I would expect them to thump Prahan next time

Bentleigh: Haven't played them yet but they seem to have made the jump to D2 very nicely, and Robertson hasn't really been starring. Watch out for him in the second half of the season. Massive improvement from the last time in D2. Probably all the young blokes coming up through the ranks. Having an undefeated 2's will do wonders for their morale on the track. 2 unsavoury incidents in the last 2 games, hopefully this isn't a trend. Graham hasn't done much for them. Swinden has been good and so to has Fridman.

Old Westbourne: we started the season terribly, but have hit form and of recent weeks. Had a lot to do with some positional changes. The form of Pavez, C.Hudson and Justin Johns has been excellent also. The WB train is back on track. There were wraps on Ty Priest this season, is he injured? when fit he is a strong mark and kick. Pavez leads by example.

Therry Penola: Completely outclassed us on our track when we played them. Costello is a really athletic, dangerous forward and is having a great year. Egglestone at CHF is a great lead up target as well. Not sure if they can continue their form the whole way through but have done everything right so far. Fly under the radar, they did make the Prelim last year so you can't write them off. I see the capatin McWhinney has only played 2 games. I would expect him back soon and provide more strength in the forward line. Kenny off halfback has been often in the best.

Eltham: started off with a bang and have a great addition of Ciavola up forward. Crooks is one the comps best ruckmen, Powell and Galvin are always hard to stop. While WB are on the move, it seems the turtles are starting to shake. Big test against Banyule this week. Ciavola has been strong up forward.

Such a motley crew this team is. They seem to always give you a run for your money. Spink is the stand out, great pair of hands and mobile. I don't rate Dimashki and I don't think he's their answer up forward. He did kick a bag on the weekend but that was against Prahran who will probably turn out to be the worst team in the comp.

Old Paradiams: Inconsistant. Lost to St. Mary's then beat Banyuile by 50 points!! No doubt Boundy is a gun but they need others to step up. I think they are missing Sage down forward, however they are too good a team to be 7th. expect a big second half of the season. Not much to add, they have same good players down there. Suprised that they have lost the last few at home. Maybe its all confidence and team gel.

St Mary's Salesian: Very competitive. Have played in a lot of close games and are unlucky to be 8th. Singh is a gun and sets them up from halfback. Definitley on the improve. Singh is their gun, but Gatehouse and the Dwyers are also good for them. Their 2's seem to have turned it around. Would expect Purcell to be back in the 1s soon as is skillful player.

Emmaus St Leos: Played them last week and they didn't look interested. Nath Baranello and Beluszar didn't play. Hickey and Paul Baronello are great players for them, and Ballard is a good ruckmen. They seem very unaccountable for mine. It could really start going downhill from here, Play GE this week and they will really rough them up. I've said it once before, so much talk about them and their "gun" players but they haven't really produced

Prahran: I don't know how they beat Banyule. They're inconsistant at best and don't seem to have enough big name players. Goal kicking is a problem also, with only Sleight and Stewart in double figures. No idea how they beat Banyule, maybe it was because it was early in the season and they had some fire in the belly. Can see them really losing the plot and the coach with all his credentials getting frustrated with the lack of heart. Big test this weekend against OPs at Toorak Park. The rain may help them as its a big ground and could be heavy underfoot. But then again Boundy will enjoy the space of a quality ground and Spithill will be back to rucking on an A grade ground.

There are going to be a few big games yet again in the next round to complete the first half of the season. Will be good see how the ladder shapes up after the first half

Hope everyone had a great long weekend & are well rested to get back into it this week.

Thought I'd kick the week off his some more Bay 13 magic. Has a timely World Cup soccer theme to it

This thread was obviously started by some disgruntled temporary Socceroo fan who got up at 4.30am to watch the Aussies get their ar$es handed to them, and wasn't entirely happy about it.

Thread gets going about page 2 with some rather humerous images, which some of us haven't doubted about the sport all along.

With all this rain its becoming like a winter of old.

Does anyone think these conditions will change results over the next few weeks?

I think some sides have become accustomed to the dry (and sometimes windy) conditions and no longer remember how to play wet weather football. The ball is like soap and there is almost no chance you'll get a clean possession. I think this was evident in some of the results on the weekend. So I'm tipping there will be upsets this week and wins will become even more valuable against any side.

Could be some season defining games/results this weekend:
Emmaus St Leos vs Glen Eira
Bentleigh vs Old Westbourne
Eltham vs Banyule
Therry Penola vs St Marys Salesian
Prahran vs Old Paradians

Good to be back after the break seeing how the rest of the season shapes up.

Windy and rain tomorrow so i wonder how the results will pan out

Tips for this week

ESL v GE - Glen Eira to have a hard fought win away to keep in touch with the finals. By 16pts

Bent v OWB - given the windy conditions it will be just like a home game for the boys from OWB. Im picking OWB to win in a nailbiter by 2pts

Elth v Bany - Banyule to continue their dominance with a 42 pts win and make Eltham's season that extra bit tougher

TP v SMS - Therry to be far too strong for SMS at home. The home side by 6 goals

Prahran v OP - Parade need this win to stay in touch with the top sides. Lose this and it might be kudos for the year. OP by 18pts it what might be a closer game tha we expect.

Good luck to all teams this week

Winter's here and footy's back!

Emmaus St Leos vs Glen Eira: Glen Eira have found a key FF to replace Bongo and Dimashki is a key if they are to bring the 4 points back to Packer Reserve! Just believe ESL have to many critical injuries to secure this one.

Bentleigh vs Old Westbourne: Another top 4 game for the dee's, hopefully rains keep clear and we can see a skilful game of football!

Eltham vs Banyule: Eltham play good footy on their 4 ancre's but Banyule love the space and will be hugry to be back on the winners list!

Therry Penola vs St Marys Salesian: Must win at home to get back into the 4. Crusial game that will make or break the year!

Prahran vs Old Paradians: Back from Big V duties, Boundy will look forward to continueing his good form! They've knocked of the top two and are my wild card for the top 4!

Rug up and good luck to all!

Shock horror, St Leo's ground. Two of St Leos players taken off by stretcher, one carried off. GE had one players ankle go. Absolute shambles' The council should do something before a major accident happens to a player.Apart from that great wins to GE firsts and seconds. The resies winning two on the trot after a two year drought.

We played there earlier in the year and could not believe the condition of the ground. It was only a matter of time before there was a serious accident on this ground.

Don't club officials from each side sign off on the safety of the ground?

I understand we all want to play footy on a Saturday but if it's as bad as you've stated than surely the safety of the players would come first.

Great win by our boys on Saturday.

Fantastic game to watch, marred by some dodgy umpiring decisions. Bentleigh had two players red carded for audible obscenities I believe, and at one stage the umpires called for a head count, only to realize they were in fact wrong. Was a complete shambles in an otherwise highly skillful and entertaining game.

Also, congratulations to our captain Frank 'Swoopa' Pavez on his 150th. Swoop has been, and still is, a fantastic clubman and a freak of a footballer. Well done mate.

On Bentleigh, I was really impressed with #1 Lawry - very quick and very hard to tackle. Also #3 at FF was very impressive early. The Demons seemed to be a little light on in the ruck department? Is this due to injuries?

It is in a pretty bad state. The ground is uneven as it is, just look at the fenceline, it looks like waves around the ground. So where there is grass on the far wing the ground has many high and low spots but you dont notice it as much because of the grass cover. However, on the rest of the ground where there is loose dirt and patchy bits of grass, the wind and rain has washed more dirt away from these areas so the high and lows spots have a bigger difference.

One thing is for sure, I'm happy I don't have to train on it twice a week and play fortnightly on it. Fingers crossed for everyone who has to play on it for the rest of the year.

Massive day for D2 this Saturday,

2v3, 4v5, 6v7 and 8v9

Along way to go but the one I'll be interested in is Eltham v Paradians, The loser of this will just about kiss the finals goodbye, potentially being 3 games out of the 4 with all the other teams around the mark in form.

This season will go down to the wire at both end but I personally think the winning teams this week will have a big advantage.

What game interests you most this week? (apart from your own teams)

What a weekend we have in football coming up!

We are starting to hit the business end of the season, and it is clear that injuries and suspensions are starting to take a toll on some teams, bentleigh especially!

On the OW game, was a a hard fought out contest by 2 sides! Always hard to win any game of sport playing a man down for a whole quarter, how ever we could only blame ourselves and our missed opportunities earlier. All credit to OW who so the opportunity and grabbed it with both hands. Thought Hudson up forward was a stand out as was #16 floating alond half back.

On the week ahead, and it's nearly a do or die game for the Dee's. Beat GE away and we breath another week, lose and the forecast looks difficult! Simple as that!

However, would love to see all the other games too, should be a beauty, looking forward to the 5:45pm VAFA txt!

What game interests you most this week? (apart from your own teams)[/quote]

In order of Interest

1. Therry v Westbourne - Massive game. Therry have a chance to break clear and establish themselves in the top 2. Westbourne can do likewise - big game for the warriors as they host Banyule the following week.
Therry by 2 points

2. Glen Eira v Bentleigh - Big game for the Saints. Bentleigh's form has been up and down over the past few weeks and their away form is not as good as their home form. GE are are quietly going about their business and I expect them to have a good win.
GE by 15 points

3. OP's v Eltham - Make no mistake Paradians are coming. I expect them to have a big home win at the expense of Eltham and move to 5-5 and striking distance of 4th.
Parade by 27 points

4. SMS V ESL - This is an old fashioned relegation game. SMS haven't been that bad and ESL have been terrible.
SMS by 55 points

5. Banyule v Prahran – Prahran got the chocolates last time but the fortunes of these 2 have changed a lot since. I expect Banyule at home to win comfortably.
Banyule by 60 points
