Can't comment about the state of Deakin now, but when Banyule played there early in the year the ground was terrible. Speaking of grounds Old Westbourne's ground yesterday was in great condition considering all the rain that we have had.

I played in the 2nds out at ESL on Saturday....I personally didn't think the ground was too bad! I was expecting worse with all the reports of late. As for our seniors on Saturday, no way did the ground have anything to do with our loss, we were simply outplayed on the day. Which makes this weeks game even bigger.

some good analysis there Twiggy:thumbsu: - battle of the walking wounded this week between Bentleigh & SMS then it would seem

Word filtering back to me is that Parade had 5 of their best 8 players missing from the first 7 games. Since their return the turn around in their season has taken place. I believe their are 3 or 4 key players still to return over next few weeks.

very interesting stats put up

good to see clubs able to show some good depth

Bentleigh 2's being so dominant shows very good depth at the club hopefully they can turn round the recent poor form.

Therry will need to bounce back this week against OP's.

Interesting to see the OP post about players missing. I thought they were gagged earlier in the season!!!

Shaping up to be a big run home with 6 teams for the last 3 spots in the 4

Hi all. I have been a keen observer of this thread for a while now and thought it was about time I offered something.

Good to see Banyule up and about again after a bit of a downer a few weeks back. I really think getting great Banyule people like Brocky and Witch to run the show has been a great move and they will be in safe hands come the business end of the season.

Saying only 6 teams do we now have to include St Leo's as a chance for the finals after thumping Therry who by earlier posts had no excuses?

Just to play devils advocate - St Mary's and Prahran are only 3 games away so mathematically......

Mathematically anything is possible with 7 games to go!!!

Reality is that form is what counts and SMS, Prahran and STL's have been far from impressive this year. If Bentleigh's form continues current trend they could be the under achievers of the year

Yes, yet another big round of matches, and as is usual at this time of the season a couple of eight-pointers:
Bentleigh vs St Marys Salesian
Therry Penola vs Old Paradians
Banyule vs Emmaus St Leos
Prahran vs Old Eltham
Old Westbourne vs Glen Eira

Bentleigh vs St Marys Salesian - too good on the best deck of the comp
Therry Penola vs Old Paradians - to consolidate flag favoritism despite everyone from Parade "keeping a lid on it"
Banyule vs Emmaus St Leos - by a fair bit
Prahran vs Eltham - Eltham will want this badly
Old Westbourne vs Glen Eira - Glen Eira don't travel well and this is hardest road trip in D2

Wow what another great Saturday in D2!
Stand out result for mine is Parade thumping Therry to make a massive statement that they are hot on the heals of Banyule!

Prahran and St Mary's both show that the bottom of the table is shaping up as interesting as the top half! Questions must really be asked down at Bentleigh now after such a promising start and Eltham have lost both times to Prahran?

Amazing to see the percentage of teams in the 4
- Glen Eira 97%
- Therry 91%
Does this mean that their best and worst are miles apart or that after slow starts they are now coming together? Possibly Therry's best and worst is a fair way apart and GE are now getting back all those players we heard about earlier in the year!

Looking ahead to this week and most games look pretty clear cut but how many times have we said that and had egg on our faces co0me sunday morning!

very intersting results from the weekend, i guess showing the evenness of the competition, the bottom few having relegation to stay out of may upset a few of the higher sides coming towards the end of the year...
was at the bentleigh v sms game yesterday and at the after match presentation i found all the bloke who was running the presentations could talk about was the bentleigh injuries, not much respect shown to the oppostion on the day wat so ever, even making a sly remark that the sms boys must have had a win today considering they were all at the after match presentation....
very disappointing on bentleighs behalf, the game however was played in great spirit with the two teams creating a good rivalry over the last few years

When GE beat Bentleigh by one point the local paper article suggested Bentleigh had 12 - 14 players out. They have never have had any respect for the opposition over the years I have known them.

On a better note GE had a great win in windy city out at OW.

Well surprise surprise, another Phantom post, another Bentleigh bashing. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that since the snippet in the Leader is about Bentleigh games, there is going to be an element of bias in the 5 sentences they give us.

But feel free to either put you're own clubs wrap in the Leader or just don't read the article. Oh & the injury part is correct plus another 4.

What a terrible day for footy yesterday. The wind blew hard to one pocket all day. We (banyule) were able to kick 5 goals into the breeze which was probably the difference in the match. I have never seen a comp before that sees 3 games seperating 2nd and last. Parade after an early season slump are playing super footy and have surged to second. From 3 down it;s anyones guess.

so sniper, did the bloke running the after match presentations not make the remark???? was the first thing he said, dont give a damn about wats written in a paper, just thought bentleigh were better than that...

Sniper, did you have 22 senior players on Saturday? We all have injuries; however, most 'put up and shut up', whilst the some don't.

Wow great pick up! Yes, you're absolutely correct, but our thirds team had to forfeit because of it. That was the disappointing thing.

Thus 22 Banyule thirds players also missed out on a game on Saturday.

Sniper, we had a lot of players out as well. We actually had 3 blokes play their first senior game for the season on Saturday taking our grand total of players to play 1's this year to 45. Injuries are a part of footy and can kill you sometimes but they are a reality and an excuse. Due to family reasons I had to leave pretty much straight after the game on Saturday, but the reports that have come back to me from my playing group about what was said and some of the comments made to me after the game were really disappointing. I very rarely post on here as you know but it is a shame that I have had to for this reason. Not much credit given to our blokes for holding you guys goalless for until the 20 minute mark of the last quarter in a howling wind. Injuries or no Injuries

Gee Sniper its not just the Phantom making comments about Bentleigh. Others are noting your clubs arrogance. Maybe karma has struck your club.

Yeah we're a competitive lot down at Bentleigh & we don't like losing much as you can tell, especially 4 in a row (all under 10 pts). My personal opinion is that with a couple of extra players back from injury & some straighter kicking, a couple of those results may have been different.

I too have to leave after that game Bails for similar reasons, so I didn't hear what was said. Not disputing what you & Bucks have stated at all. I think you're team did well in the last to cause a stalemate at every opportunity.

Yeah Karma is a funny thing Phantom so be careful in what you say.

The difference between you though & other posters is you, for some reason, have a severe dislike, almost hatred for our club to try & start a non-existant rivalry.

Got to ask the question too Sniper, I was at the rooms after the game. Why does your club have a holier than thou attitude. I was around Bentleigh for years and I left because of the arrogance

Stalemate....is that a compliment? Maybe SMS were a little more competitive, than the competitive lot... Maybe SMS just wanted it a little more. Was that mentioned at the "after-match". Guess not, just the injuries, maybe a few heart muscles blown away in the wind Sniper.
