Bentleigh over The House by 35pts ( I expect a bold showing from the boys from Ross Gregory as Sosoc and Edwards are quality contributors, however, the depth of the Demons will be enough to see them home comfortabnly in the end. Coles to star for the home side)
Uni High over Wicks by 11Pts (As long as the Wicks continue to be inconsistent, i cannot have them. Only problem is I have to pick UHS-VU. No confidence in either team to win this).
SMS over West Bruns by 28pts (Danger game for SMS, but their relentless attack on the ball will be enough to get them the points. Darren Hill to continue his good form for the Saints).
SFX over Hawks by 78pts (Surely this one can only go one way. The Hawks are low on confidence and even lower in the skill department. Xavier Gargan to star for SFX).
Jocs over Monash by 38pts (The Gryphs couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag at present and can expect no favours from a young and revitalised St Johns unit)

Result: 3/5 (17/25 season)

Round 5 Review:

Maybe the Premiership Cup is not the forgone conclusion to Arthur St that we had thought.
How does one analyse the form of the Wicks? Which team will turn up?
The Piranhas have the uncanny ability of surprise.
Both Sainters (Mary's & FX's) will play finals footy on current form.
There is no such thing as a valiant loss. Just ask Monash or Hawthorn,

Round 6 Preview:

Bentleigh over The Gryphs by 46pts (No matter what injury qualms the Demons may face, nothing will save Monash from the fury of Bentleigh on the rebound. Stephen Frost to continue his stellar season)
SMS over SFX by 8 Pts (Match of the day and I tend to agree with the flood of money that has come for SMS since markets were opened earlier in the week. Just feel the home ground advantage may be enough to get them over the line)
Wicks over Hawks by 23 Pts (Can't say I agree with the many pundits who favour Hawthorn in this one. Sure they will scrap and fight, but the class factor remains a worry. If the Wicks bring their 'A Game' this will be over early on. Smith set to fire and The Hawks will be forced to play Ogge on him).
Piranhas over Westies by 59 Pts (The House will only struggle if they go in with the wrong mental attitude. Nathan Moresi to star and shoot WB into relegation contention).
St Johns over UHS-VU by 34Pts (You won't catch the Jocs being mentally weak in sucessive rounds. Ben Pickering to continue his fine season in a comfortable win)

Good luck to all

Went to the Hawks v E'Wick game on the weekend. The Wicks started very well but were very inaccurate which kept the Hawks in the game. Hawks started to get their act together and were controlling the game and were up by around 40pts midway through the last. To the Wicks credit they fought on well and at one stage I thought they were going to over-run the Hawks who seemed to panic a bit. In the end they kept them at bay and won by around three goals. Definate improvement in the Hawks game.
Will say No. 1 for Elsterwick was outstanding - genuine small forward who is quick and strong overhead. Stand-out player for the day.

The Hawthorn game plan should be simple....

Collins in the ruck (best ruckman in the comp by a country mile) who taps it to the midfielders who kick it long to Ogge and Lauletta. (both have won comp b&f and goalkicking in the last 5 years)

They have done this over the last few years and they have always scored plenty of goals and won more games than they lose. (I know finals form has been terrible....)

The game plan this year seems to have a kick every 7 handballs, or have the ball in the centre (Rathmines is a small ground, 1 kick from here and the ball lands 30mtrs out) and kick the ball sideways to the wings and chip it back to the centre, handball 5 times then kick it in the the flooded forward line where the opposistion can easily spoils the 2 big forwards.

They had a bloke called Pirate (6'6) in the 2's who has played 1's for the last few years and has been a good ruckman. Why wouldn't he be rucking in the 1st as Collins back up? They had a 6'2 bloke as the back up and he tries hard but he is clearly out of his depth.

Maybe the coach in tanking..... Or maybe he can't coach.....

I would've thought they would've been in the mix for finals.

From what I saw on Saturday, Collins will win the comp b&f

I've got a couple of questions for you "Footy Genius?"
Should the Hawks stick with a game plan that has never seen them get higher than D3?
Or, should they get someone who has played in A-Grade and B-Grade all his life and try teach them a new style which might actually get them up the grades and out of D3?
I know which one I'd prefer....
Maybe you should do yourself and your club a favour and get to a A-Grade or B-Grade game and then maybe you will understand things a bit better...

Not that i care as I dont particularly like hawthorn, But why does everybody who "watches them play" feel that they could coach better than their coach? Why dont you guys apply for his job? maybe get their Captain to get the current coach to quit.

Maybe hes encouraging them to play on at all costs to break the lines and the exectution is just not there. Who knows. Ask him.

griff19, what was the go with your club 18 side?? were getting our side up in 2010 & im wondering how it all comes about. thanks, brother....

Well last year our clubbies was mostly made up of older "semi" retired Salesian boys (mind you most of then could have still got a game in our 1's last year!), most hardly trained at all. There was also time when they had a few boys that missed selection in the 2's, but not too many.

This year, alot different. The side is 95% made up of players that miss selection from the 2's, whether it be because of form, coming back form injury or lack of training.. There has been a few weeks where we have had players miss out on a clubbies game. Personally, its fantastic for me. If im not giving a game in the 2's to quite a few boys, at least they get to have a kick on the weekend! Better than missing out alltogether.

Perhaps you should change your handle to: "FootyFanofthe1960's"

Awesome insight there "FootyFanofthe 1960's". It sounds like you're right on the ball with your apraisal of the modern game.

Here's a suggestion: Get a telegram sent via horse and cart to the HAFA, convincing them to re-introduce sliced oranges and a *** at 3/4 time, place kicks and laced jumpers.

I suggest you stop watching the 1966 Grand Final and watch ANY game of modern football.

thanks, griff. thats been our problem this year - 25 blokes are missing out weekly so the club xviii wouldve filled the void perfectly.

if we'd known we were going to have an overflow of players at the preseason stage, no doubt we wouldve ended up playing against your crew!! ;)

thats what we want also - blokes to stick around for 2010 & know theyre going to get a game regardless...

Yeh Fooey, i thought it would be as simple as this too. Until these facts were pointed out to me the other night.

1. We struggle for helpers in the 2's already. No boundary ump on the weekend. No waterboys. Who will do this for a new team?

2. No coach, somebody may put their hand up

3. What ground will they use? We already have ground problems.

4. Who will manage the team, jumpers, results etc etc. The guys doing this already have enough on their plate without any assistance.

I guess it just isn't as straight forward as it ideally would be.

Didn't we win....

Hey coach,

Why don't you do what you forum name says... get a kick.

You should've stayed retired.

You will get the hawks to drop a grade just like you did at Melbourne High....

Just beacuse you played A grade doesn't mean you will be a good coach.

How often does just a fan suck you off???

1st things 1st: Not even Nikko would come up with a joke that bad.

2: No need for that blatant abuse. Opinions are opinions and you are entitled to yours as it GAK. You may need to re-register your name, clearly you are NOT a genius. Come up with something constructive.

Agree with Snomed, Qman. Volunteers are always hard to find.

Heard from 'those in the know' that Glen Eira Council aren't happy with the current situation of 3 footy teams and also a cricket team in summer. Maybe King George can be used after juniors. Somethings to consider going forward. I assume there was strong support from the older heads that attended the Past Players Luncheon!?

I'd also have to agree. Bentleigh would also have to sustain this amount of players for at least 2-3 years to warrant a Club 18 side. It's also no good just having a Club 18 just for 1 year, as Club 18 sides are prone to fold without the support. South Melb districts, who are a bigger club than Bentleigh are on the verge of folding up their side.

Extra volunteers, extra $$$, & an extra ground is needed, which Bentleigh doesn't have. However is very unfortunate good 2s players are missing out on a game.

So with so many missing out on a game each round, how are Bentliegh managing this??? Surely if you constantly were not getting a game you wouldnt stick around???? Do you have some sort of roatation policy??? When I played at Waverley Blues in the EFL we had the same problem. We rotated all the players for the first 12 or so games, so everyone missed at least a game and everyone got a go. With 6 or 7 games to go to finals, the best side was picked every week.

Also, you dont really need an extra ground. Our clubbies play at home when we are away and visa versa. It is hard to get the help though, thankfully we have alot of support of the ground.

And the truth is that is the ultimate insult, even I have more tact than you Footy Genius.. Seriously, just because you may have scored 1500points this week in that stupid supercoach thing doesnt mean you would actually be a good coach. Why dont you just apply for his job next year and see how many blokes stick around to play for a tool.

Melway Reference: Page 45, H-10.

That's the reference to Rathmines Oval.

I'm sure training tonight starts at 6pm and ends around 8pm. I'd think that the coach will be at the footy club until 9-9.30pm. Why don't you stop hiding in cyber space, look Mark Murray in the eye and tell him what you think? Better still, do it whilst in the company of the people who respect him, the current players at Hawthorn.

My gut instinct says that your playing career (and from the trollop you write on this website, I'd be shocked if you actually ever played the game) was guttless and petty just like your comments in this forum.

You're right on the money, even the 2's skipper & vice captain got rotated last week :D

It would be about 25 extra blokes who missed out last week but 10 of those players were injured which makes it had to run a Club 18 side.

We would have to have an extra ground due to the Glen Eira council strict guidelines, maybe Mackie Reserve?. We weren't even let on of ground unit just before the practice matches. Club 18s at Bentleigh will just be a pipe dream

Hahahahahahahahaha
Your witty and insightful observations are a shining light on this forum.
It was almost as funny as your game plan....
Why don't you throw a "your momma's so fat" joke in there as well....
My only question left is why do you hide on this forum?
You obviously know where the Hawks train and play, so tonights Tuesday and training is on, go down there and confront him....better still pull on some boots and see what difference YOU can make....
No, taking pot shots at someone from behind is more your style....
Footy Genius indeed...more like Footy Coward
