Could be a couple more starters to this list. I know that the ammos are definitely looking at a 12 team d3 in 2009. If that is the case then Albert Park, Kew, Swinburne or LaTrobe will be the other 2 teams.

Are there any new sides entering D4 next season?

If not, Bentleigh defecting to the SFL will make it nearly impossible for the VAFA to have a 12 team D3. If not, it will leave only 9 in D4 which is not an outcome I'd see the VAFA wanting.

There are customary rumours of other clubs waiting to enter the VAFA from EFL, NFL, EDFL, and Albury, if you believe them. The Vafa certainly do get multiple applications every year, but these first have to meet VAFA approval, then AFLVic approval, and neither of these are easy. It is probably better to wait and see what happens. If you want my opinion- three regional D3 divisions make sense. If you want my tip- a 12 team A grade or a twelve team D1.

Im also from Bentleigh, there was murmurs of thoughts regarding this, but not once did this ever get brought up seriously. Think the club would be going backwards if we went back to SFL.

The regional E grades which the VAFA had previously wasn't a great system. The top teams won by heaps every week and the bottom teams got thrashed every week.

Imagine a top D2 team in a division with a bottom D4 side.....Doesn't sound like much fun.

The graded system means more travel, but far more competitive sections.

Looks like a pretty strong league.

If they do go to 12 I reckon they should drop one and promote 3. That would probably ensure the most even spread. Either that or relegate no one and promote 2. I reckon teams should stay in the league rather than be rewarded for getting knocked out in the finals... though it would be rough to finish last and face the same competition next year it would be better than coming up and getting flogged only to go back down again.

So you don't think Kew are worthy of going up?

Not saying that. Kew and Albert Park were both good this year and both would be competitive in D3.
Swinburn had only one win in so I think there's a fair case to be made that they should drop but the question is whether the fourth best D4 side is better than the 2nd worst D3.

Perhaps there should be a repechage style system where the bottom two from D3 and the 3rd and 4th from D4 play off for the two spots available. Not sure when this could occur though.

I don't, 4th place isn't worthy of promotion in any competition, even English football where there is 20-26 teams in a division use 3 up 3 down. (I know 3rd - 6th playoff for the final promotion spot in some divisions)

There's no doubt that Kew would be competitive in D3(probably more competitive than Albert Park) after a 15-3 season, but losing both finals, they're definately not more 'worthy' of promotion ahead of Albert Park.

In my opinion, to go to a 12 team competition should be 1 down and 3 up. One less going down, and one extra coming up.

Surely both teams that are currently in the grade (Swinburne & La Trobe) would get to stay up if it a 12-team comp. They have more right to stay in the grade than promote 3 or 4 teams from the grade below.
Remember both teams have earnt the right to be in D3 while the 3rd and 4th place teams in D4 haven't.

hopefully we can see the round 18 ladder turn out something like this ;)
will be interesting to see how SMS go in this section after merging last year and not making a good fist of it.
we at bentleigh also had a shocker of a year but in the last round had a 100 point victory over SMS.
look for them to fall even further or will they be able to hold their feet in D3?

while ur d4 ladder prediction was woeful i must agree a 3 up one down would be the best option

Prediction - Finish
1 West Brunswick -1/2
2 St Francis Xavier - 3rd, 1/2 After Finals
3 Kew - Finished 2nd, 4th After Finals
4 Mt Lilydale - 4th, 5th Finals
5 Box Hill North - 8th
6 Albert Park - 5th, 3rd After Finals
7 South Mornington, 10th
8 Richmond Central - 7th
9 Syndal Tally Ho - 12th
10 North Brunswick - 11th
11 Eley Park - 6th
12 Bulleen Cobras - 9th

Wasn't that bad an effort pre season was it? Had 4/5 finalists and the other at 6th. Got Eley Park wrong, but generally pretty happy. Not grumpy I tipped the Cobras to finish last are you???

you never know , you might be returning to D2 if either another team moves comps or the comp restructure is higher

course not was used as a bit of motivation finished 5 games off the bottom, should have won 2 other games that we didnt finish off or played the worst game in, was only down by a point at 1/2 time agianst went bruns, only lost 1 quater agaisnt st francis, and was really pushed kew so i am pretty happy with 08 coming form last in 07, just stirring the pot

Back to D4 thread for you!

I thought you had done it all @ Bentleigh & were packing the white nikes & heading to a different club or was that just piss talk?

Bentleigh is NOT moving to the SFL.

They are playing Amateurs next year. So lets get of the topic that they are moving to another competition. The club is definately already looking to make 2009 a big one.
