you never know , you might be returning to D2 if either another team moves comps or the comp restructure is higher

could be. will be keeping a watchful eye on the vafa website over the summer for further developments on this interesting topic...

I thought you had done it all @ Bentleigh & were packing the white nikes & heading to a different club or was that just piss talk?

HA! we'll c how some management decisions go during the off season mate. Id be more worried about losing some more of the quality player then me. After the SMS weekend at Arthur St who could blame them!

Bentleigh is NOT moving to the SFL.

They are playing Amateurs next year. So lets get of the topic that they are moving to another competition. The club is definately already looking to make 2009 a big one.

I also heard rumours that the SFL were going to drop Div 3 & have a 2 division comp with three Div 3 teams departing.

A lot more teams depart that comp than enter it. SFL is dying, why would the team at Arthur St even consider it.

so are you talking about a mass exodus & bentleigh losing some quality players?

You would have to be pretty naive to think no one would be offering some of the better young players some $$ to move to other leagues or a chance up higher in the VAFA. The "mass exodus" surely has began with the club advertising the 3 coaching roles for next year

I'm not sure that 3 new coaches is a "mass exodus". With 2 of the 3 having valid reasons for stepping aside. The other I would not know.

As for guys leaving for money....well that happens and you move on.

From discussions with quite a few of the younger guys (20-25 y.o) since season end there are very few, if any who want to leave the club or have even thought about moving on. Hopefully 2009 provides some better results which will ensure success with younger guys coming through.

i can tell you that it is club policy down at bentleigh to advertise for all coaching positions even if a coach has been appointed for the following year.

Money is not everything & players need to choose a footy club for the right reasons or risk being one of those mercinaries who bounce from club to club chasing the $$ but never really being acknowledged anywhere. Bentleigh's greatest ever player Dave Martin was offered truck loads of money year after year but chose loyalty & mateship & has left a huge legacy @ the club by virtue of 7 or 8 club B&F's & 6 or 7 league B&F's.

As one of the coaches who is moving on, I hope all the young blokes @ Bentleigh stick together & see relegation as a minor setback but look to improve & take the club up through the grades & build a dynasty that they have the potential to with the right attitude, work ethic & leadership.

Sounds like there is a "bad egg" down at Bentleigh.

Just being realistic Snipe. It is an interesting and challenging time for the club and i cant wait to see what 09 brings! Heard a rumour on sat at the C grade GF that we could find ourselves back up in D2

I also heard this right here on Big Footy. Pity. D3 is a good league to be in travelling wise. A pity Kew went out in straight sets, D3 teams now have to go out to Beaconsfield.

I talked to Michael Sholly while he was on the piss last night at the presentation night and here is what is happenning in '09

The SFL is downgrading to 2 Divisons of 12 teams as 1-2 clubs seems certain to fold. The remaining 2-3 Sides are likely to either get the chop or helped to be moved on to other leagues. (There are currently 2 x 10 team grades and 1 x 8)

If 2 sides are granted entry into the VAFA, D3 will also become a 12 team comp, if 3 sides, D2 will also become an 11 team comp.

Promotion and relagation will work like this:

2 New teams - D4 - Two new teams enter. D3 - Two promoted from D4, NONE relegated to D4. Normal promotion / relegation between D3/D2.

3 New Teams - Same as above but only one team will be relegated from D2 to D3 (St. Mary's Salesian)

You heard it here first.....

Had the same conversation with the same person at the same venue with a very different response....i think we should just wait and see. he did mentioned that there are northern clubs( no idea if this means EDFL or NFL) who have applied too.

I think NFL is going from 4 to 3 Divisions as well.

Well it could be a short stay for us Bentleigh boys here in the D3 forum, which was quikly becoming what looks like a Bentleigh chat room!!
Hopefully we find ourselves up in D2 for 09.. no offense to the D3 teams, but we just can't afford to go backwards at all.

I must say.. very well said!! It's good to hear something with more of a positive spin about the club :thumbsu:

Well done to Rick Ogge from Hawthorn on winning the D3 Best and Fairest, as well as the leading goal kicker. Top effort big fella.

So what did our great furore say to you archangel??? Why wait and see when we can speculate?

NFL currently has 2 divisions
ratana you really got him there! maybe all this goss from rooster is not as he makes it out to be.
would like to hear which clubs out there are a chance at coming to the vafa from these other leagues though if its true. anyone having info on this? would be good to see where they played and how they went in 2008

A prominent VAFA personality did tell me a "northern league" was going from 4 to 3 divisions, and didn't really do any homework with this. As archangel said, they may have been referring to the EDFL, I just assumed NFL......

Also haven't done any homework on the EDFL, is that 4 divisions currently?

Ok, just checked EDFL and NFL website, both are 2 div comps, so I'm not sure what my source was telling me......

Dont knock his info- he is correct re Southern League. Northern League is trying to go from 2-3 divisions and is trying to recruit VAFA/EDFL/Riddell sides, however a couple of their sides are looking to jump ship to VAFA and Riddell
