Could have sworn I played against him at OM's....maybe it was another mick hazell who played at Salesian....

Yeah Ok Im lying.... he never coached us or played with us in 06 & 07!!!!! Maybe do some research.

Yes he played there before 2006 so im quessing your talking about then.

so which category do you fit into magicroach? how much seniort footy have you played?

i would back at a lower grade an unfit Sharp over a fit *******. I am with justafan, the fit ******* would fumble & sharp would snag his 8th goal in the 3rd term on his way 10 or 12 because if you cant play, you cant play especially at this level

Not sure what relevance the level of football I played has but if it floats your boat I started playing reserves at 17 y/o in a comp that was alot stronger than D3.

I still stand by my opinion about fitness and skill over the course of a game. Sharpy is a little different as his fitness level needs to be different to a flanker or winger.

Your inexperience is starting to show through Tiger.

If anything fitness levels at D3 are more important, everyone in the afl/vfl/a grade/efl div 1 etc will be very fit and strong, they have to be therefore the difference between the fittest and the least fit is only small, at D3 guys who keep themselves fit will be far more fit than their fat old slow counterparts. Even if the fit blokes fumble it he probably has a 10 metre start and could afford to sit down build a little fort then pick the ball up and run away. Full forwards/full backs dont really count for this argument as were clearly talking about cardio fitness (mid's/flanks/wings) and i would back the insanely fit over the talented, if you cant keep up or get the footy doesn't matter what you can do with it!!! Anyway as said previously if two guns are battling away clearly the fit one will win the contests all day. On the salesian thing i dont think too many left i can add one Griff forgot Robbie Mallett went back to the SFL, but retirements aside most of the boys are still there, certainly no more or less than other clubs lose over the course of a season

the best onballer in D3 last year was an unfit 37 year old who played for Hawthorn....the games that i saw he tore the opposition apart and I can tell you that each player he played on looked alot fitter than him...

and his best games were against Williamstown and Eltham....

so basically what I'm saying is that you're wrong....

reading that I would suggest robbo would be licking his lips. after winning the league b&f last time in D3 will he be tipped by many to take out the medal again? others to watch out for who could challenge? how did this "unfit" bloke for hawthorn go in the league voting in 2008?

Bill Irving from WB will be a strong contender for the D3 league medal. Also Cam Armstrong from Sleazians will go ok.

came 4th I think and won Hawthorns B&F.
how in the hell can you say that someone is favourite to win the medal in November?
I reckon I'm a chance to win it then....and I haven't played for 5 years!!

Don't worry about how someone looks. I know plenty of blokes that 'look' fit that couldn't run around the block!

It's very simple really. Any of the top players from each team are a chance, especially if they won the B&F or are a past winner.

I don't know your circumstances but 5 years out is quite awhile. Do you reeaaallllyyyy think your a chance?

Beg to differ - B Irving for West Brunswick won that year

Well its great to be fit, but I'll say this, you can be the fittest person alive, run a marathon and not even blow out a candle at the end of it, BUT if you cant get the footy, then fitness means f..k all.

Looking forward to playin in D3 this year, especially against that AFL side.................... Bentleigh.

I would think at any stage there is a favourite for anything. Seeing it's a certainty that someone will eventually win it, there must be a favourite.
I know it's pretty stupid but even in AFL the day after the Grand Final they already have some sort of premiership betting available.
But yes in the end Robbo didn't win in this league last time so maybe he's not the favourite, I don't know. We'll cross our fingers that he remains injury free because anything near his best will go a long way to winning it.
I'm sure there are no goals for individual honours being made ahead of team goals though.. as we saw he won it in 07 in the side that came 8th, we'd much rather be one of the top sides and have him not winning it, obviously.
And I say obviously because surely no one can argue with that when any AFL player that speaks says they would gladly trade everything for a premiership.

Any Essendaon fans out there? Who would you pick first, Mark Fraser who could run like the wind & run all day long or Derek Kickett who was always overweight but was mercurial match winner.

I reckon it normally the blokes who have never played any decent footy (aka magicroach - played reserves @ 17 yrs old - what an achievement) who think that fitness can overcome an inability to play the game. Give me an overweight gun who is pulling on the boots @ D3 level over a fit ******* any day

Favourites for League B&F 2009

-Robbo
-B Irving (WB)
-C Mahony (ELS)
- D Lauletta (HAW)
- C Armstrong (SMS)
- P Edwardes (PH)
- R Ogge (HAW)

All previous winners

Oh please Tiger. If inquiring on peoples football history is merely so you can take cheap shots at them then I really do feel sorry for you, but I hope you feel better for the experience. What relevance ones football history (which you know nothing about) actually has is anyone's guess. If you can't form an opinion or argue your point without cheap shots then you are only showing yourself up.

You are actually missing the point entirely but I'm sure (I hope) that you do work it out one day although it seems to be a little over your head at the moment.

Sorry Magic Roach... in your hayday was it your fitness or skills that did it for you??

Fitness vs Skill?

I'd say neither are the most important attribute for a player at D3, I would say athleticism is the most import thing.

Fit people can be unco *******s and skillful players can be unfit but an athletic player combines fitness, co-ordination and can develop skill.

I tend to disagree. Richmond drafted players like Aaron Fiora, Jarrod Oakley-Nicholls & Tambling because they were athletic & blitzed the vertical jump, agility test & 20m at the AIS draft camp.

The jury is still well & truly out on those players....

I beg to differ that I missed the point. You might have noted that I was able pose a quetion whilst also taking a cheap shot.

Perhaps if you haven't played at a decent level you have been part of a coaching committee & have had to make those selection decisions? Maybe you a more than I give you credit but I doubt it. Ohhh the glory years when I was 17 thinking it doesn't get much better than this, I have made to the ressies maybe I should retire........

Sorry Magic Roach... in your hayday was it your fitness or skills that did it for you??

I was always one of the fittest but worked hard on improving skill level which is easier to do when your fit.

Skill level decreases with fitness - meaning your actions, thought process and disposal drop increasingly through continuous exercise.

I've seen some guys who have been absolute duds over a number of years all of a sudden have a great season due to much improved fitness. Especially at lower levels of footy.
