Yeah he did. Played at St Bedes last year. Not playing this year. He coached the U/19's at salesian in 05, coached and played in seniors in 06 and played in 07. And yes, there is a bit of difference between A grade and D3.

This is better than days of our lives. It seems like there may be some ill feelings between Bentleigh and Salesian..
(Griff, at the risk of sounding like starting an argument, technically you guys were relegated in 06 as St Mary's and made finals in 07 as well.. Just omitt the bad years!!)

Jezza played last year but has gone overseas this year with work unfortunatley! Will be a loss, his brother Al has signed with us though (from De la Salle) and bought a couple with him.
Papa played 1 game last year when the VFL had the bye. We are hopefull he will come back but notsure at this stage. He had a pretty good year with the Hawks last year so dont think we will see him much!!! You never know though....
StMary's got relegated from D3 in 2006 and played a season in D4 in 2007 before merging with Salesian and leapfrogging D3 to D2 in 2008, from whence they were relegated again.
Not a criticism (I was at WB when we got relegated in 07 and it sucked) just my recollections.

You didn't get relegated until after you merged.....it sounds like you are saying its the guys from St Mary's fault.....

Speaking of W#nkers, do you guys still take your own beer to away games instead of buying it over the bar and supporting your opposition club? I remember there being a bit of a stink about that in the D4 forum a couple of years ago although never experienced it first hand.

Was talking to Paul Dimma during the week though and who said you guys have picked up alot of players - especially younger ones - is this correct?
Ripping bloke but he has been known to talk things up.....
Also, spoke to the coach at Hawthorn who tells me they have picked up a few who were on the fringe at Scotch & Xavier as well as a couple who played in Old Carey's 1's last year. They are still in negotiations with a very handy 6'7" type who was listed at Collingwood and they are very hopeful. He is also full of sh*t as well.....

I wouldnt think the club would be upset about anything I have written on here at all. All I have been talking about is whats been happening at training and numbers ect.. Allthough it does piss me off a little when know all's like yourself get on here and bag the club for no real reason when you really have no idea what your talking about. (I can only assme there is no real reason as you wont state what your real problem is).
I wouldnt think that would be the case, but not sure what happened 2 years ago. Considering you cant serve alcohol during any games in the VAFA i dont think anyone would bring there own to sit in their cars and have a beer after the game.

How can you "negotiate" to sign players when you cant pay them? Do you offer him "all you can drink and eat" at club functions and a pair of new boots? Especially someone who's on "colloingwoods list".
I heard on the grapevine Saverio Rocca is in negotiations with Hawthorn, they offered him a parma and a pot after each away game to come back to Aus, play for a D3 club on shyte grounds and free use of a boxing bag whenever he wants. Score.
Maybe im naive and clubs are just paying blokes.
Three years ago I watched a game at Albert Park. I was enjoying a froffie in the convivial but rather empty rooms afterward and the AP guys were wondering where the opposition were. Out in the car park downing slabs of VB... I thought it was a bit off.

Who'd they pick up who were in Old Carey 1s last year?As far as i know Old Carey have lost no-one from the ones. It is possible a couple of the younger U19 who have friends down there may be playing, and they are talented footballers- regardless have not heard anything.
Don't know any names mate, just going on what the coach has told me....as I said he could be full of sh*t....
Isn't Cal McGrath o/s for the year....that would be one that they have lost....he is very good friends with the Hawks coach as well....
Nikko, the negotiations are that they are trying to find him a marketing job through club contacts....
Cal may be overseas. I haven't been down for a week, and last time i heard, he was unsure when he was going o/s so it is a possibility.

Yes number are good and there are quite a few new faces which is always good. A good spread of 20 - 29 y/o's

Was speaking with a club insider from Elsternwick yesterday who had a few interesting things to say.
D Smith has been taking some of the training (which I assume means he is playing), and numbers have been comparitively good compared to the last few years.
A few mates of mates have come down and while this has bread a bit of excitement, my insider wasn't getting to carried away saying, "We're exactly where we should be, D3"
Does any club ever admit to struggling for numbers at this time of year? Surely some are......
