also another smokie to keep an eye on is the fearless "james coyne"..........his small frame allows him to extract the ball from the tightest of contests, setting up a lot of the play for his teammates.

Have had big wraps on this kid for years now, just really needs to take that next step and become the star that is "Coyney"

Give it a rest. I thought Stu was the only nutcase when he named the holmesby's in players to watch.

Coyney and Zib are great players for the 2s....but just that, 2s players.

A revised players to watch: A fit Scott Lawry, Robbie Ahmat, a new role for Sharpie, Magic and the possible return of the prodigal sons Luke Forrest and Jason West. Hopefully our recruits from down the coast also make a name for themselves too.

**laugh** yes of course!! i forgot about the 6'9" man mountain... he WILL be a handful for opposition teams this year!!

i'll start with us & say james robertson will once again weave his magic on the fields of d3 this year. you can back him up with scott lawry, sean & luke holmesby & amir banks... all capable players that can impact on a game.

as for opposition, melican, pietsch, west from west brunswick, gargan & the van dam boys from st francis xavier & the said 2 from elsternwick are all able to stamp authority on a game when its needed.

i dont know of any other players but im sure i'll find out quickly once watchers from the other clubs offer their points of view!!
stewie, i don't know what you are smoking but the homo bros & banksy as players to watch.....surely not. lawry is a gun but surely there our at least a dozen or probably more players that will have a greater impact that the other 3 you have named.

**laugh** ok maybe i was a bit premature in my assessment. im doing this on memory & theres been so many new players come into bentleigh & players i cant remember from last season i dont know whos who!! ;)

how about these 2 gents then:

shaun adaway - can change games with his excellent rucking skills & pack marking strength.

chris sharp - evergreen forward who knows where to lead to & is deadly accurate from anywhere.

is this a reasonable "comeback", tt??

look out for a bloke by the name of ben zylbersztajn.

Ben Zylbersztajn still has the aerobic capacity of a 90-year-old asthmatic, chain-smoker.

James Coyne setting up play for his teammates? Last year one of the 2s players got a free kick for a head-high tackle after putting his head over a tough ball. Coyne was nowhere near the contest but as soon as the whistle went he sprinted in to claim the free kick and boot the goal, even though the injured bloke was still healthy enough to take his own kick.

Funny blokes. Ordinary footballers.

Do you need someone to spell it out before they write a post? If you can't detect the underlying sarcasm from my post then don't even bother replying to it.

two points there:

the first- obviously we all know Ben is a burst player, play him in a role similar to the end of Peter Riccardi's career, bring him on for short 5 minutes burst, then give him half the qtr to catch his breath back.......then ask him to retire at the end of the year

the second - could even say that Coyne was "opportunistic" and did what he needed to do to ensure that a goal was kicked for his team. Great teamwork nothing less. I'm sure the other guy, being a spud.....would have missed.

Not the point if he missed or not, he put his body on the line, not the other bloke. If u want the kick, go in for the hard ball.

Im not a hard nut. Im a sook, but i wont steal someones kick. would you take his kick off him Cuz?

depends on who the guy is, if its someone who i doubt very much will kick the goal then i might try and sneak my way in, i won't by any means think i deserved it, just do what i have to do to get the goal on the board.

if it really was a spaz, u wouldnt look like so selfish if u ran past and got the handball out the back.. (although claiming to do the team thing for the goal, it will look selfish... ) but i note you did say "might try", so u would feel bad.. And whats a guy that cant kick goals doing in the forward line anyway?? put him in the back!

I wouldn't be worrying to much about Grace, Smith will be the one to watch!

Leads me to my question players to watch in 09, your thoughts?

Can anyone from Elsternwick tell me how much they are paying Smith this season. Did he get a payrise on his 2008 income?

Also, while on the topic of Elsternwick, has "Wheels" the dirty, sniping coward retired officially?

I dont want to be in the backline this year!! I dont want to break another leg.. and im never playing golf after the horror round at kew I had on sunday Ruck.. Tell Corey to stop whinging about lifting bricks when you see him too...

Once a Full Back ... always a Full Back .. you can never escape! Trust me, I know!

You don't really expect a serious answer to those slanderous, accusatory questions, do you?

You'd hope so... No Disrespect to those boys though.
