So what the article is saying that they have lost 6 players, but it's not the full list of departures?? So there's more, or are these covered by the the "10+ players & handy inclusions" posted by LG6317?

The 6 players WB have lost were massive to there premiership success in 08. They will leave big holes, But you would be a very brave man to write off WB this early in the year.

good morning gentlemen!!

ive just come up to speed with the last 3 pages & theres some massive talk going on here with certain issues. maybe redgum can fill us in on how west brunswick have covered the players gone from 2008, lamb flaps laurent has just dug a hole for himself & yes, have to agree with whitenikes, a top night was had last night at the bentleigh rsl (a club sponsor - a rare commodity these days... ) with most members submitting their nominations for our leadership group in both grades.

i believe there will be players selected for these roles that will surprise many...

Players like Billy, who is now playing VFL will be very hard to replace but with a few younger players steppin up and the new inclusions, maybe all not lost. Expect big things from WB, they looked very sharp at training wed nite and have a very good list to chose from this week.

Appears there were some mixed messages last night at the dinner with some players being told seniors and reserves leadership nominations, others being told seniors only. Some players nominated with a mix.

Feeling is that the coaches know what they are looking for but are trying to get a feel for what the players think. I think compared to prior years they will try and get a leadership group that is spread wider than mid-field/ruck as has been the case in prior years i.e last year robbo, lawry, frost, fridman, adaway (sorry to those I missed). Could be wrong but would be something to think about.

Thanks for outting me Sniper I thought I could keep my identity under wraps untli round 1. Just look for the yellow boke with the big brown spots.

Bring the rain!

Big Loss. Sorry to hear that WB.

good morning gentlemen!!

maybe redgum can fill us in on how west brunswick have covered the players gone from 2008,

Billy still has us as his nominated club if he doesn't play at Port but is flying there from all reports and good on him.

We're very happy with the numbers we have down and the talent from which we can select.

We'll find out how we're going soon enough (as everyone will).

im presuming the vafa rules will allow this to occur? VFL to D3? just checking ??

Just seen WB's teams for tomorrow. A fair senior squad of 24, an even more imoressive 40 players to play in 6 quarter game starting 11.15am. Glad I'm not reserves coach having to pick from the 40, dare say quiet a few on the reserves players would slide stright into other senioe squads. Good problem to have. Goodluck tomorrow boyz, will be looking on from sidelines.

As far as I know. A couple of years ago when we and Old Westbourne were both in D3 they had a guy (Chris Hudson I think) who would play for them some weeks but was on Werribee's list.

It would only happen if Bill didn't get into the Port seniors or reserves and he played seniors in their last Praccy match, so we're not basing any game plans on him being there.

Bill (and anyone who nominates a D3 team as their club) can certainly play D3 if not selected for VFL duties, in fact I reckon watch out for him when the VFL have the week off and the VAFA doesn't!!

Hmm, well lets have everyone name their ladder by round 9 :

1. Powerhouse
2. Elsternwick
3. SMS
4. Hawthorn
---------
5. Bentleigh
6. West Brunswick
7. SFX
8. UHS-VU
9. St Johns
10. Monash Gryph

:confused::confused:

I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting my return after spending the summer on a beach in Montserrat...

Rather than predict the ladder at Round 9, I am bold enough to have a stab at the Round 18 order.

1. Bentleigh (100 on the track! If this is the case give them the cup now. Will be extremely hard to beat, especially if Chris Fidler fires. Clear Favourites)
2. Hawthorn (Have been there and thereabouts for the past two seasons and would be in D2 save for choking when it counted most. I can't see them failing again. New coach, class midfield and Richard Ogge up forward. Obvious challenger to Bentleigh).
3. Powerhouse (The big improvers in 08 will be around the mark again. Not sure they have the depth to win a flag though)
4. SFX (I hold the sneaking suspicion that St Francis Xavier will progress through D Grade as Rupo did a few years back. Huge gene pool to recruit from in the City of Casey. Probably won't win promotion this year though).
--------------------------------------------------------------
5. SMS (They sure will appreciate the drop in class this season, but I feel they are a club on the decline and will be happy to hold ground somewhere mid-table)
6. Monash Gryphons (These guys are the Tottenham Hotspur of D3. Always doing enough to remain afloat, but never having their infrastructure quite right to challenge. The Gryphs will be hard to beat at ECR and welcome the return of Adrian Flowerday).
7. West Brunswick (Must be a frustrating club to support. Every time West are relegated, they seem to regroup and win a flag with haste, however, they then seem to lose half a dozen quality players and struggle the next year. I don't expect 09' to be anything novel)
8. Elsternwick (Rumour has it that the numbers have been so poor at pre-season that Marty Cunningham will be on the ball in the seniors, Lee Murphy will play without even training and Grangy & Paul Mahony will coerced to play again so the ressies don't have to forfeit in Round 1. Write the Wicks off at you own peril, but I think they will seriously struggle this year)
9. St Johns OC (Didn't think I'd ever write the Jocs off in D3 prior to the season, but I saw some disturbing trends emerging from Thomas Carroll last year. That old St Johns 'bite' and hardness at the footy was missing and I do not believe they are recruiting well from the school anymore. D4 in 2010)
10. UHS-VU (I know many scribes will disagree with me, but Uni High are due for the drop and did not look like they were heading in the right direction last season. Boycey will probably begin stacking the ressies by mid year, so look for them to challenge for the D3 Reserve flag in September)

Good luck to all teams...

Quasi

Dear Mr [Far Q] aka Mon Grys

Eager is not quite the word!!

We have no need to stack the reserves when they are already good enough - Last year we defeated the Hawks by over 10 goals in the ones & not one of those 22 played in the reserves final series!!

Yes you sucked me ....... in! Seem to remember a succession of Mon Gry twos flags back when I started [your seniors were not too flash b/c they were in the twos?]

THE TEEN ;);)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know who Powerhouse played? i know it was a D2 club and apparently the House won by over 80points..

Also does anyone how the standard of EDFL div 2 compares to the ammos? IE: D2, D3?
