bah! enough crapola about other leagues, Round 1 is looming in the only league that counts!

anyone else care enough to go down Sportscover Arena this Friday to watch the D4 game under lights??

If anyone is expecting a low standard game they'd better be prepared for a shock. Both these sides competed very well against D3 opponents in the preseason. There will be fireworks ;)

I'm getting nervous.

The Falcons (rats) play S'cover No1 pretty well. Dont get caught out wide, its Siberia out there!!! Bloody long way home. As they say in footy"kick it up the guts!" Good luck boys. I'll be there.

i forgot they play there at the start of each season? darn it i was hoping there was no home field advantage! no centrals have ever played there.

Nothing 100% confirmed. Just another rumour that he may play a handful of games.

Why would they play a D4 match on the friday night of the opening round of the season?? Why not a A grade grand final rematch or at least something in the top 3 grades. Oh well.

Jumper Presentation night tonight....Word is Bentleigh's number 1 ticket holder Jack Reiwoldt wanted to be the one to hand over the red and blue to Big Will Minson!!

Nothing I can confirm, haven't heard anything. Probably just a guy with the same name -pretty common name.

Where are you getting your info from?

It is a pretty standard name, though I think you know more than your letting on Sniper!!!! Probably a good idea considering how the kellaway topic was discussed on here.

My source will remain confidential... I hear the paperwork is through at the VAFA but isnt on the website as yet...

Actually I'll let you in a little secret, I know jack sh1t. I'm always the last to know these things but I'll probably find out more tonight. You have to go to all the trainings to find out the goss.

Does the man in question play cricket with Glen Iris as well?

-bentleigh v st johns - dont know a lot about st johns but we've all heard about bentleigh. benteigh by 103 points
-west brun v sfx - grand final rematch and the result will be the same even with the players they've lost. wb by whatever the won in the granny
-wicks v house - wicks too good hear. no lambflaps no house, simple as that. wicks by 35 points
- hawthorn v monash - hawthorn will be one of the ones to beat this year and to easily account for monash. hawthorn by 85points.

Krusty's tips for the opening round:

St Marys/Salesian by 24 points over Uni High - The combine a little too strong for the boys from the zoo.

St Johns over Bentleigh by 3 points - Many have written the Jocs off...not me.

West Brunswick over St Francis Xavier by 66 points - West Brunswick the bet of the round.

Elsternwick over Powerhouse by 29 points - Smith to kick 11 of the Wicks 14 goals.

Hawthorn over Monash Gryphons by 71 points - Hawks rarely lose at home and Gryphs have too many injuries.

Team Premiership Promotion Final 4 Relegation Spoon
1 Bentleigh $ 4.50 $ 2.10 $ 1.30 $ 14.00 $ 21.00
2 Hawthorn $ 6.00 $ 3.00 $ 1.70 $ 12.00 $ 16.00
3 St. Mary's / Salesian $ 8.00 $ 4.00 $ 1.90 $ 10.00 $ 14.00
4 Elsternwick $ 8.00 $ 4.20 $ 1.90 $ 10.00 $ 14.00
5 Power House $ 9.00 $ 4.50 $ 2.30 $ 5.00 $ 12.00
6 Monash Gryphons $ 9.00 $ 5.00 $ 2.40 $ 5.00 $ 12.00
7 St. Francis Xavier $ 12.00 $ 7.00 $ 2.80 $ 3.20 $ 8.00
8 West Brunswick $ 14.00 $ 7.00 $ 2.80 $ 3.50 $ 8.00
9 UHS-VU $ 16.00 $ 8.50 $ 3.50 $ 2.80 $ 6.00
10 St. John's OC $ 21.00 $ 13.00 $ 4.00 $ 2.20 $ 4.50

After further talk on BigFooty, the odds have been revised with the commune shortening substantially and now on the 3rd favourites. The other merged club in Bentleigh-Richmond are still outright favourites with Hawthorn on the second line and then the 3 D3 mainstayers with SMS.

SFX have firmed with reports they have a few more players in there second year in the promotion-relegation battle.

WB, UHS & JOCs dont have many friends at the moment, I guess we'll see after Round 1

People have been talking down the JOC's and WB and as such,

Roosters Round 1 Odds & Tips

Game 1 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
Ben $ 1.14 $ 4.00 $ 1.60
StJ $ 6.70 $ 8.00 $ 41.25

Have loved slow transformation of Bentleigh AFC into Richmond FC, firstly poaching their players, then the fans talking up their chances pre season, and now would love the JOC's to get up here ala Carlton Round 1, so I can look forward to reading more of Bentleigh's back stabbing and dirty laundry on here Monday morning like everything posted pre Christmas. Perhaps even the coach will get sacked mid season. Fully expect the Red & blue to get up by plenty here though.

Game 2 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
SMS $ 1.40 $ 2.65 $ 2.95
UHS $ 3.00 $ 5.00 $ 7.50

Personally, I'm not convinced about SMS after only winning a couple of games last year no matter how well the say they've recruited. UHS are the value bet of the round and I'm going to go with them by 26

Game 3 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
W B $ 1.90 $ 3.20 $ 4.70
SFX $ 1.90 $ 3.60 $ 4.00

D4 GF rematch. The Westies have lost 6 walk up ones players. That's like the Chicago Bulls losing Jordan & Pippen in one season after a chamionship. Would anyone expect them to win many the following year? Eltham made the double jump last year, and while I think that is beyond the X Men, I do expect them to win comfortably today by 26pts, and really enjoy the meaningless revenge.

Game 4 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
EWK $ 1.70 $ 3.00 $ 3.90
PHS $ 2.15 $ 3.80 $ 4.95

The eWoks are looking older, slower, and fewer are getting day release from the nursing home these days to play but they do have Dave Smith and the House were spanked by Albert Park a fortnight ago and those two things mean Elsternwick at EO2. Agree with Krusty, Smith to kick 11 of 14.

Game 5 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
HAW $ 1.20 $ 2.50 $ 2.30
MON $ 5.00 $ 6.00 $ 30.00

Hawthorn are something like 23-4 at Rathmines over the past three years. The Gryph's are 0-3 I'd guess and that trend won't change on Saturday. Again, like the Bentleigh-JOCs game, I'd love to see the Gryph's get up so I can read the measured and calculated media statement posted by Mark Murray next week. Hawkies by 22

I can confirm that M Graham will be playing for the BFC this yr as well as Paul Dimma. Our Capts for the seniors and 2's were also announced. Looks like bigfooty regular Sniper will be capt of the 2's. Look foward to seeying big things from him. Unfortunetly Farren coudnt get a crack in the senior leadership group due to a "missing" pre season

SMS by 80 points are the real deal
Bentleigh by 80 points ditto
SFX by 23points
Elsternwick by David Smith
Monash Gryphons - don't underestimate the Gryphs and the loss of Luke Piccolo at Hawthorn

Just a quick question:

When you have an ex-AFL footballer drop by for a few games in a year, like Paul Dimmatina or Mark Graham, and they're not down at the club all the time like the rest of the playing group, is it good for team morale? How does the bloke getting dropped for them feel? Are they treated like blow-ins, or guns-for-hire?

I dont reckon richm... i mean Bentleigh would even make them train.

I imagine it would be the worst around finals time if they have only played the bare minimum to qualify and end up pushing the blokes who got the team there in the first place out.

It will come down to putting the best possible team on the park as we can IMO, as finals is a different ball game to normal home & away matches. If that means that a player will miss out thats played 11 games then so be it. Those are the harsh realities of life.

Whether that person will sticks around the next year, will be a test of that persons character. Look at Blake at Geelong (I know, AFL is different to D3 blah blah blah) but you know the point I'm trying to make.

If a player of their experience was to walk into UHS OB, would you say thanks but, no thanks? Ultimately it will come down to the senior coach's final decision anyway.

Anyway finals is still some 20 long weeks away
