Why didn't he go snipe?? Set penalty is only 3 - should have taken it if he wasn't going to front! Reckon his form will have to improve to get back in.

You are a twos player so were you playing against us last Sat?

He was pretty sure last night that he did take the set penalty. So hopefully the website just needs some updating. 297 and suspended only once before. He may look like a thug, but he does play hard and this unfortunate brain fade by him has left him shattered. His form wasn't great on the weekend, but neither was most of the team. I'm sure he'll find his way back into the team to reach that great milestone.

Sounds like there was a communication breakdown somewhere. I asked him on Tuesday night what his intention were & he said he spoke to our coach & president & advised them that he would take the three week set penalty. Some questions have to be asked there.

Round 11 Preview:

Bentleigh over UHS-VU by 68 Pts (If there is a more consistent Footballer in D3 than Paul Magnifico, I am yet to see him. Can't see the Vultures being in this one at any stage).
The House over the Gryphons by 36 Pts (The Piranhas have been in poor form of late, but their opponents would struggle with the local U/12s! Powerhouse easily with Nick Bull to continue his fine form).
SMS over The Hawks by 65 Pts (Can't see the Saints kicking 30 again, but then again can't see Hawthorn getting anywhere near them. Tom McDermott to be in everything).
SFX over Westies by 41 Pts (Another fixture that appears a forgone conclusion on paper. A win here to the Beaconsfield boys and September action is a certainty).
Wicks over the Joc's by 11 Pts (Match of the round clearly as it is seemingly the only contest that could go either way. I favour Elsternwick though, as their form has been good of late - save for one awful quarter against the Demons - whilst St Johns have been indifferent all season. Still plenty to play for though and the boys from Doveton will surely make this as unpleasant an experience as possible for the Red & Blacks).

Round 11 Review:
3/5 (33/55 cumulative).

Mathematics means different things to certain people, some find it easy, some see it as trivial and others simply see a brick wall. The simple fact remains through, 4th down to 10th are separated by three games and therefore any of these teams can be relegated or make finals. Back on planet earth, St Johns are as much chance of being relegated as the Gryphs are of playing finals, however, last weekend's results are further evidence to the contention that precious little separates this bracket. Who would of thought it possible that Monash could thrash Powerhouse only a week after being pummelled themselves to the tune of 158 points? Who can pick Elsternwick with any confidence? What is one to make of Uni High or Hawthorn? I suppose the only absolute is that our three top teams are well ahead of the rest...

Round 12 Preview:

St Johns over UHS-VU by 16 Pts (No lay down misere for St Johns as this is a fixture that the Vultures will fancy themselves in. However, St Johns form has been far more consistent and should do enough in a close one. The wet weather should only aid their cause).
Bentleigh over Monash by 53 Pts (Even with the Gryphons renewed confidence, the Demons will be far too big, far too strong and far too skilled for the young Monash side).
Westies over the House by 11 Pts (The Piranhas were pitiful last week and will no doubt have paid for their poor performance on the track. West Brunswick simply have to win games like this if they are to avoid the drop and should do enough in a scrappy affair)
Wicks over Hawks by 33 Pts (I'm not sure I've selected Elsternwick correctly this season, so on that proviso, the Hawks are a 'shoe in', but the Wicks should be breathing fire after a poor showing at Doveton last Saturday. Craig Mahony to fire for the Wicks).
SMS over SFX by 12 Pts (Match of the round clearly; however I rate the Saints far better for the business end of year. St Mary's/Salesian have the ability to demoralise sides and whilst I do not expect that to occur here, they should prove too strong).

Good luck to all.

Word is that there was a break down of communication with the VAFA and submitting of paper work in regards to this matter. Not surprising as the league likes to sting us when it can when it comes to administration penalties.....i think you can blame a certain article a few years back on that LOL.

In Regards to "boycey-gate".....i didnt play that day, but from my point of view i simply thought he was a space cadet. He made a bizzare speech in the rooms pre game but i didnt think there was anything spiteful about him. just a case of lost marbles.

I honestly didnt think he umpired that poorly....perhaps the last quarter decision when the holding the ball free (and 25) was given despite a tackle not being laid fueled these fires. Cheating is a strong word. Ill stick to opportunistic.

Boycey is a valuable asset for his club. A pain in the ass to other reserves clubs, So flipping what? If reserves results mean anything.!!!!
Let's worry about Hawthorn's ressie umpire, what a tool!
I must seriously question Amateur prerequsiites when they allow such an absolute idiot to paticitipate in the game!

They mean plenty to the guys playing!

Too quiet on here for my liking of late.

Boycey must have had a good weekend umpiring.

Any tips for the D3 comp B&F?

My top three are:

C Mahony (Elsterwick)
J Robertson (Bentleigh)
N Rutherford (Monash)

Thoughts?

Only from what I have seen this year - M Collins from Hawthorn would have to go close. A genuine star is a struggling team.

a real smokey

P Magnifico (Bent)
been killing it in the seniors, his name is pretty much in the record 2 of every 3 weeks

I'd also put Paul Magnifico ahead of James Robertson for the Bentleigh candidate for win the B&F. Robbo has missed a few games this year so it may hurt him where as Magnifico has played every game.

It depends what the umpire sees though, a flashy high flying forward or an upstoppable gorilla down back.

Hard for anyone to give an accurate prediction because no matter how hard you try, you can't watch more than one game each week from the league.

So you'd just have to go by the best player in the team that has won the most games - which seems to be Paul Magnifico.

Not nessarily true Bemuse Me, James Robertson won a League B & F when Bentleigh were terrible.

Chalk and Pickering from the JOC'S would have to be half a chance. But for mine i believe its Collins from Hawthorn (the ruckman) who would have to have had 5 or 6 BOG's nearly on end wouldnt he..massive player, any one who drifts forward & kicks goals will be seen in a positive way. Same could be said for Hunter from Elsternwick, but he probably has been less consistent. The worry for the Bentleigh boys is that youd have Robertson, Magnifico, Swinden, Fergus, Sharp, Lawry all taking votes off each other wouldnt you? Rutherford from Monash and Dimakopolous and co from St Franks would have to be there and thereabouts also....And you also have to take into account its umpires doing the votes, and they tend to see things a little differently;)

I remember, whilst injured earlier in trhe season, running water for our 2's. I was told that running water was only allowed to come on after a goals had been scored (New VAFA Rule).

As it was a warm day I asked both umpires what the hell I could do. Our umpire told me that we have to abide by the rules, when the UHSVU umpire buts in and has his 2 bobs worth. He told me that he did not care what the VAFA rule was and I could as long as I stayed out of the play. An arguement started and he went on and on about utter sh.t. I interuppted him and said, I could not give a rats what he thought, I wanted to know the VAFA rule. He then sent me off the ground because I questioned him.

You asked both umpires and were told by "your" umpire one thing & by "our" umpire a different interpretation - that you could come on behind the play as long as all waterboys kept out of the way! You asked and you got your answer which b/c of the heat should have been enough - boy he wanted to give everyone some leeway b/c it was hot! What's the problem Dave? What happened in the seniors - yes... waterboys were allowed on more than just after goals. You said you were injured - presume it was a "head knockjob!"

If you want to know the "rule" get a rule book/look it up!

Any word from the Powerhouse game last week, where one of their players got 2 weeks for a violent push!

Was it over the fence or something?

Nah.. Nothing like that !
It was a straight forward, open handed shove, that got the WB player a bit high, probably around the upper chest just below the neck.
I guess you need to come up with some imaginative language to describe why you send someone off with a red card???
Violent !! I don't think so, It's not like the guy had a gun and pushed him under a bus ? What's the world coming to ??

Well, round 13...unlucky for some. Run for the finals!
Here we go.
St Johns OC v Bentleigh.
4 into 1 just doesn't go. (does it?) Too many big strong boys recruited this year by the Demons. Let's see if they can do a "Willy" next season. They are well punching below their weight this season. Ok, who's gonna stop 'em? Not the Joccas I feel.

UHS VU v Monash Gryphons. Surely the Vultures cant let another gimme slip from their grasp this week? Stranger things have happened. The Gryphs got a taste of D2 footy last week and seem to rebound well I reckon. Close one, home side by the lenth of Boycey's mullet!!

St Marys Salesian v West Brunswick. The genteel people of Glen Iris will not entertain the "Riff-Raff" from the western suburbs with too much grace on Saturday. While I believe the small confines of Pooch-Pooh Park may test the Magpies, the custard coloured crusaders will not give them a sniff! Unless the prospect of finals looming send the Saints into their shells....Nah, too soon to choke.

Hawthorn v St Francis Xavier.
Only one traffic light between Berwick and Burke Road. Maybe the tight streets from there on mightr stuff the Saints. Nah, they got Sat-Nav!
By the time they set eyes on Rathimines they might think they are in Gullivers Travels and have reached Lilliput. Or, an Auskick venue!!! "Hey Boys, how goods this? A stab pass from the centre to the goal square"

Power House v Elsternwick.
The Geriatrics host the competition senior citizens at the village green for a Bocce game to decide their fate for '09. The Carniverous CArp have lost a few teeth lately and the zimmer frames are responding to the cortisone and horse shots lof late. (That's vitamin B12, in case you don't know) Dunno, really, a chance to get closer to the 4 or the door,
I can't pick it. maybe the Wicks.
Good luck to everybody this week, including Quasimodo.

Superb writeup Sidey.

I am pressed for time this week, but will still put my tips in before Quasi.

Jocs over Bentleigh by eight points - Demons undermanned...big upset on the cards I feel.

Uni High over Monash Gryphons by 14 points - D4 is very much looming for the Gryphs...possibly more interest in whether Boycey can get the Zoo boys over the line in the magoos?

St Marys Salesian over West Brunswick by 99 points - margin could be even greater.

Hawthorn over St Francis Xavier by 19 points - yes I am tipping another upset. SFX may misjudge that one traffic light.

Powerhouse over Elsternwick by 11 points - The return of Mr Burnside and Mr Richardson to the senior team should get the House over the line.
