A runner up comp b & f
A club b and f winner from half a year
and a best on ground premiership player

hard to replace for the westies

Tip for 2010: West Brunswick to struggle

west brunswick also had a few big retirings. including the big bald headed backman, judging by the VAFA website WB have 16 players leaving which is a fair chunk, and 5 to NOBs

st francis lost a few good players, including there big ruckman i am told, the 18 signing they are talking about are under 18s/19s.

Not sure who the bald-headed big bloke is? I'm the biggest (or I was, they're calling me little now that one of the new blokes has come down and shown me up) and the baldest (voluntarily) but I don't play back and I'm certainly not retiring (despite what my old bones suggest).

Yeah, more to NOBS than I realised, but of those not all were seniors regulars. Obviously when the coach takes some players with him some of them are going to be good players.

16 out, 26 in according to the clearances, including some talent from other leagues and some guys from the 08 premiership year returning. It's a big turn over but that's not unusual for us.

Don't worry about WB boys.

Good to see this post hotting up.

Are there any cheap flights to Beaconsfield?

I need to book early for the St Francis game!!!

Would have to agree Wamba .....nice to see a bit of passion from people at various clubs and getting into it. Should be even more pumped by tomorrow as players have the first selection for 2010 read out tonight at various rooms around the state.

Off to run around the paddock now......although a few of the young pups have said I should be grazing on it.

Hoe Park in magnificent condition for round one :thumbsu:

Go Hoes !!

Chump.

I expected a bit more chat on here today.......... Round 1 is about to start tomorrow!!
All I know is the Hoes are raring to go and expect to start their season off better than they have in previous years.
As Chump said, the ground is in superb condition. Should be good to RUN on hey! ;)
My tips: Hoes comfortably by at least 4 goals.
Latrobe to win eaasily against Kew.
YV by 8 goals
Hawthorn to win at home
And no idea about the others as I don't have a clue where St Francis X or St Johns even is. Where the hell is Beaconsfield??? Isn't that overseas in Tasmania?

Players to look out for at the Hoes -- O'Dwyer, Meredith and #93 to have it on a string.

not this week.

what sort of a club doesn't have a spare #93 lying around anyway???

I don't know much about d3, but i'll back the Hoes based on what I've seen in my short stint at the club to date.

can't wait to play, lets hope the rain clears and the 2's kick the dew off.

Buddy - sorry to hear about the ankle injury last night mate. All that pre-season and that happens. :( Oh well, I am sure that in 3-4 weeks you will be back at it and your much anticipated return transpires.

Our scribe in D3 may need some help though.....mentioned last years coach Doni ' Fox' Valkanis as still at the helm. As close as Foxy will get tomorrow is on the hill and a pie in the hand. The new coach is flying under the radar ;)

Looking forward to the game - should be a good one. Also, to see how the 'new' side gels. Only 8 players from rd.18 last year are playing.....lets see how we go.

Good luck to all, especially to Jacky C out at West Brunny and his umpiring exploits for 2010.

Yes it is buddy. Didnt the Vafa tell you that you will have the 1 interstate trip this year to play St Francis. You better start looking at booking flights. They have special offers through the Vafa.

Latrobe look up and raring to go welcoming back a few old and new faces.
Back from a long hiatus after a smelling the success from last year the Journeyman Ross Slater and Kieran Donovan coming back from his long term bruised knees. Both big men should have the leagues backman begging for mercy

My tip for 2010:

Glen "Barrel" Francis will be win cult hero status at hoe Park by the time he has attended 2 functions and figured in 3 games of footy. Both on and off the field he will excite the massess with his commitment to the cause and reckless abandenment for his own physical health and well being.

Just back from a cricket trip up Yarrawonga way, any news on the games?

Not sure what happened to St Francis since last year but if what they put out on the park yesterday is even close to their best side then they will be off to D4 next yr....

I heard that a lot of their senior team left for money - pretty ordinary effort by those blokes if it is true.

Went and watched Hawthorn vs West Brunswick on sat.
Hawks looked pretty good, well drilled and play that little ground well.
West bruny reserves won easily,i think they will be a good side this season.

Not true at all!! Just to clarify, We have lost about 12 or 13 players from our side that played in the prelim against st marys last year. All very good players ( our whole spine plus most of our midfield) but it is not because they have left to play for money they have all either retired because of age or are having a year off because of work or injury. If you look at our clearances you will see no one is playing for another side this year... It will be a interesting year for us we have a lot of young players but i dont expect to see another effort like the one on saturday from the saints!

No one has left to play for money!!! If you want to put this rubbish on the forum, then back your comments up with facts. And as Snake siad, We have lost a few through retirement, work commitments and injury. We are a young squad and have alot of new faces.

The House for mine will be the team to beat this year. Very Strong, well drilled unit and can big Eddo get any bigger??? good luck to all Full Backs this year. They have about 4 - 5 blokes over 6ft 3. Very different team from last year.

Having said that, we had a pretty poor day (Obviously) all very dissapointed, it was a very rude shock, so that wont happen again, you will see a very different outfit this week against Yarra Valley!!!

The Wicks won't be too far behind on what I saw on Saturday - Had no idea how to play a bigger ground (We played out on EP1). I believe they have Latrobe next week away - its gonna get messy!!!!!

What's wrong with going and playing for $100 or $200 a game if you can get it? Would you knock that back?

Don't agree its a poor effort if true (which I know has been said isn't), I'm sure these blokes didn't commit to playing this year with SFX and as long as it's not in the VAFA, and considered cheating, I don't think attacking peoples character over deciding to play for money is fair. If you want to play for money, go for it, just not in this league.

Wish I hadda taken your $12.00 on offer for the House by over 39.5 points Rooster!!!!

Albert Park too good for the Hoes on the weekend. Played well with a good mix of height and pace across the ground. The Hoes probably a little lucky to have only gone down buy a slim margin as some poor kicking for goal early by AP kept us in the game.

That being said we put out a very young side on the weekend and will continue to play the kids as much as we can. With a young team (10 players with under 5 games each of senior footy - some first game ever) you will get some inexperience at times when you need to shut a game down.

Apart from losing the 4 points - we can take some good points for the future at Hoeland. Another 3 or 4 kids available this week - and may get a run. It places pressure on the more senior guys who need to step up a bit more than the weekend to share the load in developing the side.

All in all - two competitive games, played in very good spirit and an excellent turn out by the AP boys after the game for a beer (we had to make a late dash to the local for more). Appreciate the support lads and good luck for the rest of the 2010 season.

How would a side that plays all of its home games on a tiny ground "have an idea how to play the bigger ground"???
