So Mitch. Did you manage to see some of the party tricks shown by the big bloke at FF in the early game? I heard he kicked 10 in a half and probably could've had more. Should be handy come round one I would say.
Must have been impressive Buddy!

Didn't make it in time to see the twos; stopped on the way to listen to the duelling banjos!!!

Panton Hill wore our young blokes down with some good solid bumps and then some good footy and probably should have won in the end.

Still a good hitout for our young blokes; worth a month of pre-season!!!

Watched the latrobe seniors yesterday against a side from the divison above, unsure of they're name sorry (think they were either winner or runners up in D3 last season) Latrobe went down by a kick, but never the less looked quite sharp despite missing a key players, Ludeman and Mclean, and Van Ooi was stretchered off early in the 1st quarter. Probably should have won but for some wayward goalkick. Stay at home full-forward, Stuart Patten, was the main culprit kick about 1.5 and also had a few shots that didn't even trouble the scorers.
was at the game, and it was SMS was the opposition. Labtorbe will be very handy in D3 this year. They play a very fast game of football and will be a hand full on there home ground ( very big ). expect them to finish in top 4. The full forward is a very good footballer. but would have stop short of saying that they should have one they game. SMS kicked very pourly in the first half and had no bench after half time.
good luck to everyone this year. will expect it to be a very even comp.

Good hit out for the boys on the weekend Buddy!!

Nice to give the long list of kids a run in the seniors against bigger opponents and different playing style and see how they held up. Great to see they did a very good job with a very inexperienced team that had 10 or so top players missing from the seniors due to unavailability. Good signs in the two's as well with lots of numbers and another 15 or so unavailable.

Two weeks until we find out for sure how we are traveling - but a nice positive outlook at this point in time......as do almost EVERY club in EVERY comp around the land.

The only down side was that the match report had you struggle a little bit and seriously lacking any sort of form at all. Looks like you will have to put in a bit more work old fella :D

Go Hoes !!

Chump.

Heard a very strong rumour yesterday that the Chump may be polishing the boots in a possible return in 2010. Any Truth old man:D

Never believe March rumours Oldtimer as you know they usually mean that someone had one too many beers at the club recently:D

That being said the wife is very keen to get me out of the house on Saturdays and has suggested a bit of running around might help with the expanding girth;)

Lol. A few more games under my belt will make a massive difference. As Wamba said, there is nothing like match practice. Remember it has been quite a while Chump!
A definite positive to come out of the game on Saturday was the form of the Backline General. Like a good wine, seems to be getting better with age.... :D
Speaking of age, the Senior team we put out on the park would seriously have had an average age of not much more than 20! Need to put a few more older blokes (sorry, EXPERIENCED blokes) into it. ;)
And finally, it was good to see a past club b&f winner back at the Hoes. Loved him feeding the ball out which meant certain other blokes didn't have to!
Go Hoes.

See you at Hoe park tonight Buddy.......I was told free pies on this evening, so I am there for sure.

Chump,

Sources seem to suggest that you and Angelo Pace would currently win a role on Biggest Loser Couples.

A fair paddock one might say...

You sources are spot on Dee Three. Life of retirement has been a wonderful 18 months of beer, food and nights on the couch.

But, as they say.....I can always lose weight. What the hell are you going to do about being so damn ugly? ;)

Looking forward to another year chatting with you in season 2010.

Chump.

Just over a week until the real stuff starts. Anybody have thoughts on how theirs or other clubs are shaping up and what they think their chances (realistic) will be this season?

Well Rogered - why don't you start the batting & tell us about your club/chances first?

Well vafaeye as a part of one of the newly promoted clubs and last year being my first year with them i posed the question for a response from the better informed members of this forum.

Not sure how to compare us to clubs that i know nothing about at this stage but like all clubs would say everything has been working well on the track for this time of year!

Well, 2010 .....round 1 this weekend and i am sure that all players from all clubs are very keen to get 'into the real stuff'. I have little information on teams and players at this point in time so it's 'flip a coin' week.

Yarra V UHS-VU: I expect Yarra to be a very big chance to play in the finals action and the whisper is that they have had a very big pre-season and increased the fitness base. I also hear that Keem returns - very good player and will keep full backs of the comp on their toes. Yarra at home by 8 goals.

The Wicks V St Johns: Which Wicks team will turn up to play seems to be the guessing game of this match? I rate an 'up and running' wicks outfit as a good side. That being said the boys from St Johns are far from an easy first up assignment. Wicks at home - get the nod... 17 points.

Hoes V Albert Park: Albert Park made a late run last year and just tripped up at the end. expect them to provide a physical contest at Hoe park for rd. 1 The hoes have had alot of players 'move on' and will have a young outfit for season 2010. I have to pick my mob ....Hoes by 23 points.

Hawks V West Brunny: apparently alot of changes at both clubs so it will be hard to tell who will settle best for rd.1 The Hawks play their ground well and on that basis alone I will pick them by 3 points in the opener.

Pikeys House V St Francis: The big signing at the house in the off season has been the coach. A high profile person can drag a few players to a club and it will be interesting to see how things work throughout the season. St Francis are one of my other finals tips and I would expect them to play a significant role in 2010. Flip the coin for me as it's at the house, but I think it will take a bit longer for the game plan and new players to gel .....St Francis by 12 points.

Kew V La Trobe: I think La Trobe will be the other finals contender and as such should account for Kew in rd.1 I Base that on not much apart from some reasonable pre-season form from La Trobe and some local whispers about their internal expectations this year. Trobers by 33 points.

Ladder - I will have a crack at that too!!

Hoes ( I have to say that )
Yarra
St Francis
La Trobe
St Johns
Powerhouse
Wicks
Albert Park
West Brunny
Hawks
UHS-VU
Kew

Good luck to all clubs and players for a competitive season with limited injuries.

Care to have a crack at the best in the comp then????
surely some people would have an idea of the players to watch for the season?

As im only new to the thread, i know little of this, so got a tip for the best of the season?????

Don't worry Sidey, I will still be keeping a close eye on Div 3...

For the record I believe the ladder may look like this:

St Francis Xavier (Unlucky in many ways not to have been promoted in 09)
Yarra Valley OB (Too strong a club to stay in D3 for long)
West Brunswick (Liked the way they began to improve last season)
Latrobe Uni (Will continue their resurgence)
----------------------------------------------------
Ivanhoe (Will be competitive but just fall short)
Powerhouse (New coach will keep them in the mix)
Elsternwick (They always finish about here. Were fortunate finalists in 09)
St Johns (Am simply drawing the mid range teams out of a hat)
Hawthorn (Although they could be a lot better)
Albert Park (Haven't challenged in this grade in years. 2010 will be no different)
UHS-VU (Boycey was wording them up last night, so that is good enough for me!)
Kew (Will win a few games, but someone has to come last)

As normal D3 should be a fiercely fought and even competition, much like the English Championship in Soccer.

Tips for this week:

Yarra Valley by 51
Wicks by 16
Hoes by 27
West by 31
SFX by 11 (Match of the round for sure)
Trobers by 18

Good luck to all

Quasi.

Tips for Round 1.

Yarra Valley by 50 pts over UHS
Elsternwick at home over St Johns by 30pts
Hoes to get home by 5 pts over Albert Park who have a lot of ins on the clearance list.
Hawthorn at home by 6 goals over west Brunswick
St Francis by 8 goals over Powerhouse to stamp themselves as an early favourite.
Latrobe to beat Kew at kew by 6 goals.

Sorry, Well Played ......have been following the Hoes and have limited insight into many of the clubs playing in D3 this year and what players remain at clubs from two years ago.

Ivanhoe best - Look out for Drew Merredith and Kizza O'Dwyer - big pre-seasons.

Chump.

Maybe...however I heard that St Francis have lost half there ones side as they left this year to go play for money. West brunswick have also lost most of their ones as the players went with the coach to go to North old boys

Crap!

3 players to NOBS doesn't make half a side. St Fairies - who cares!

5 out for SFX one of whom played seniors, 14 new signings. Not sure where you are getting your figures in either case!!

Two players requested a clearance from WBAFC to NOBS that I am aware of. Maybe a third but I'm not sure.

Not exactly 'most of our ones'

I know nothing about any other team except for UHS who we played preseason and who were apparently missing some decent players on the day so this is just for sh1ts and giggles:

UHS d Yarra Valley because I know nothing about Yarra Valley other than what is covered in the Year 11 Geography course.

Wicks d StJohns because the game is being played on a postage stamp.

Hoes d AP because AP will take a little time to shake off the bad habits of D4. Like we did last year.

WBAFC d Hawks. Just because.

SFX d House but I honestly have no idea why I went that way and not the other.

LaTrobe d Kew because they'll be fitter from a preseason on that massive paddock of theirs.

Im not sure where you have got this info from, but if half our side went to play for money, then where are there names in the clearances?????

We have had a few new young players sign, a couple retire and 1 move interstate for work.

We will be a very young list this year and will be very competitive.

west brunswick also had a few big retirings. including the big bald headed backman, judging by the VAFA website WB have 16 players leaving which is a fair chunk, and 5 to NOBs

st francis lost a few good players, including there big ruckman i am told, the 18 signing they are talking about are under 18s/19s.
