It's about getting through 18 rounds of footy and then....the big stuff happens. The teams that get through the rites of passage get to feast on the spoils.
Anything can happen and usually does.

Res: YARRA VALLEY vs UHS-VU 11.55 AM

Sen: ST JOHNS vs LA TROBE UNI 2.15 PM

Plenty of parking, fully operating canteen, BBQ throughout the day and coldies afterwards to quench the thirst.

Week 2 of the finals series and another batch of interesting and thought provoking matches.

 Seniors.
First Semi Final.
Power House (11/7) vs Albert Park (10/8). The Falcons surprised a few tipsters (not me) with last week's solid win while the Slushies were not disgraced in their loss to La Trobe. Power House have won the two meetings this season, although the margins were slim (7pts and 14pts) and will go into the match as favourites and with some confidence. But, in finals, winning form does count for something and I'm tipping an upset win to Albert Park.
Second Semi Final
St Johns (15/3) vs La Trobe University (14/4). These two have been the standout teams all season, and fittingly split their two meetings, both by small margins. The Saints form has probably been a little more consistent as the Students have battled injury and player availability. This should be another close match and I fancy La Trobe to be the first to gain promotion for season 2010.

Reserves.
First Semi Final
La Trobe University (15/3) vs Power House (11/7)
Second Semi Final
Yarra Valley (16.5/1) vs UHS-VU (15.5/2)
 
Powerhouse v Albert Park Albert Park by 3 goals if they can finally kick straight in a game against the House.

St Johns v La Trobe St Johns 2 goals, this could go either way, so I'm going with the team that finished on top of the ladder.
 
La Trobe are through to Div 2, 2011 with a win over St Johns.
Power House beat Albert Park and now face the Jock's.

In the Ressies, Power House eliminated La Trobe and now face Yarra Valley in the Prelim. UHS-VU await the victor.

It's all on again next Sunday at Scammell Reserve in Oakleigh.
 
So who's left eh. The Trobers, the House and The Jocs -who could argue that they were not the 3 best teams in it, especially at the end when the House were stringing together a few wins. Elsternwick might have done ok in the 2nd half, but then again, they shouldn't have lost to the Falcons.

Can't pick a winner out of these 3 as they are very close in my opinion. The heart says the House of course, and despite the ammos wrecking my Father's Day as well, heres hoping for a good result on Sunday.

As for the 2s, back to back grand finals under the esteemed tutelage of Warde will be a great effort. The boys had a great win on Saturday and would have gained some confidence from it.

In fear of getting banned again (still unsure why I was banned in the first place) I will only have good things to say...

GOOD that teams won last week.

GOOD to see the Tribunal is as efficient as ever
GOOD to see the Umpires are doing such a good job
GOOD to see the VAFA are reasonable with their Finals ticket pricing
GOOD to see the VAFA are reasonable with their Car Park pricing
GOOD to see this Forum up and firing...its been an unbelieveable year!
GOOD to see the VAFA in its wisdom, play the D3 Finals on Fathers Day
GOOD to see the VAFA hold it's End of Year B&F Awards night...the day after the D3 Grand Final!!!

D3 Footy...it's just GOOD!

The tribunal - please don't talk about it - definitely the most frustrating aspect of VAFA football!!!! You just made me kick the cat!!!!

Fathers day scheduling - the VAFAs reasons for Sunday finals when there is only match are feable, and I am sure they will actually get a smaller crowd there this Sunday.

Anyway, fathers unite!!!! Remember that when your wife complains about you not spending Fathers day with the kids, remind them that it is in fact OUR day (and / or bring them along to the footy).

I suppose I can excuse the wise elders for not knowing that though!

But the VAFA night of nights - I have buckleys of attending! I will save my leave pass to drink with my team mates.

And how many teams are going to turn up after their mad monday post the gf's. Do you want them turning up!

Why does no-one talk about Boycey anymore?
Where is Nico-teen? Did he get his third strike after trying to give up the recreational darts?

Maybe the club gagged him after his emarrassing rants last year - of how they were the best ressies team but it was just unlucky circumstances that they couldn't make finals! PUFF PUFF maybe this year nico!

Oh well I am going back to reading Abba Lyrics - they are so very insightful!

On a serious note it is very unfortunate for young Tuck to be suffering from depression when at the healm of his club is the spokesperson for Beyond Blue - and no-one was notified. Instead of policies to protect the reputation of the AFL maybe the AFL should base its policies on protecting and helping the PEOPLE that create its extremely profitable product - THE PLAYERS.

Did I write that? Maybe I should be drug tested!

At last someone has mentioned the umpires and what a tremendous job they do - thanks Dee Threeeeeeeeeeeeee - oops my 'e' key is a bit sticky - i must stop visiting those other forums!

I do not go to finals myself as my favourite ressies umpires are not on the job so for me the season ends at round 18 when everyone has played each other 1.5 times.

Good luck to those other umpires who brave the supporters and the conditions - you are most certainly what makes this great game great!

All the best to the Rolls Boyce. A man who sports such a hair style AND umpires deserves more recognition - maybe free parking for the finals or something like that.

I will finish with this - Power to those who blow the whistle.

The rumour is true. The prelim final will not be at Scammell - for those of you still alive I suspect you'll hear more on the track tonight!!!

Considered one of two of the most important matches in the season (the second semi is the other) where promotion is as bigger prize as a premiership, St John's will be disappointed with the outcome m of last week considering their form and dominance during the season and will be keen to close down the runners from Power House. The Power finished the season off well, but taking a line thru their inability to beat La Trobe in the first week of the finals ranks them as an outsider against the Saints, although they did run them to a few points mid-season. A close game, now at Edinburgh Park, should ensure with the Saints to win and gain promotion.

Would got to Brunswick St to watch the final if it wasn't on Father's Day. Good luck to both teams. I'm tipping St. Johns to gain promotion. Clearly the better side during the year but you never know what can happen under the pressure of finals.

The reports tell me the track was woeful with a concrete cricket pitch running through the centre circle, the facilities were substandard and the umpiring was "over officious"!

That's indicitacve of what the VAFA think of D3 sides..
