Gryphons captain Dan Baxter hails from the Uni. Was named in D3 team of year in 2007. There are enough students at the uni to choose from so I think you're being ignorant Pisani.

indeed, uni's r a good way to bring players 2 clubs.. so long as the club is actually tapping in to them, and the players coming down dont just constantly go out chasing the dragon in chinese opium dens off russell street cos their 1st year arts students obsessed with michael moore doco's and non conformity..

Lol very true, well said nikko teen.

lol the might of the gryphs wouldnt be 2 scared of any1 there if u get your players from monash uni

Pisani my recollection of Uni High was simple. 4 points in the bag move onto next week. Moving up a grade is all good and well but u are yet to prove yourself. Uni`s last experience in this grade was relegation. I wish u good luck and all the best for the season. However don`t comment on sides u have not seen for 2 years.

I tend to agree with u Wafer. Uni have proved nothing when we played them, infact i cannot remember having anything u would call a contest against them. To b honest the prospect of playing them this year bores me. Hike out to a ground with no atmosphere, surface was always patchy and the changerooms resemble a maze. Your point of proving nothing in D3 is correct, to my memory they have not even threatened finals when in this grade.

If u check ur footy record u will find 2004 u will find both 1's and 2's made finals, 2005 slipped a little then at the start of 06, lost 25players.. Maybe this year we'll put a piece of cheese in the changerooms so u can find ur way a little better..

Hey at least they're big... At eltham you get changed across the road in the gynasium and have cold showers... At St Mary's you shower with the opposition and umpires.

UHSVU has an awesome clubhouse with beer on tap and foxtel, and all kinds of luxuries.....

If Uni High and Eltham don't pick up 6 or so players that would go straight into the first they both will struggle to make the four, no matter how much the standard of D4 raised last year as the standard of D3 would have also raised just as much. It's simple recruit well and you will be competative, if not, you'll receive a few beltings as per Powerhouse last year.

It will be close up the top of the ladder i think this year but ill take a stab and think it will go like

st johns
elstenwick
la trobe
willaimstown
uhsob
hawthorn
powerhouse
eltham
swinburne
monash

So waferknuckles u can knuckle as many d4 teams as u want in 2009

Willaimstown
St Johns
LaTrobe
UHS
Elsternwick
Eltham
Hawthorn
Powerhouse
Swinburne
Monash

i agree with u chase. I just hope its a good even comp, not top half/ bottom half segregations. Reckon the season will start on time this year?

Pisani, the top 4-6 could place anywhere. ive played alot of footy in my time, both with teams that are succussful and others ordinary, with the grade system used in the ammos - teams who drop down and those promoted want to prove themselves. thats why i think Willy and Stjohns will be up there as well as Uni and Eltham.. Elsternwick and Latrobe had strong seasons so theyll be in the top half

Thats fair enough dont know much about williamstown but winning six games in d2 they will be very hard to knock off. Its still early and will just have to wait and see what happens like nikko teen said the season could be delayed again for a bit.

Hawthorn finished 2nd at the end of the h & a last year and if collins hadn't of gone o/s during the finals should have gone to d2. They will be there abouts and have a serious home ground advantage thus the only team to beat westbourne last year.

never played at hawthorns ground, is it big and wide? or is the advantage 4 some other reason?

Note your comments but in fairness, the house were very competitive, considering the enormity of their injury list, and that included Eddo , who played on one peg all year

well it will still be better than ferndale park.. do they have ok clubrooms at least or do they have to pitch tarps between trees for changerooms?

You though that was bad, should have seen old westborne's old ground the away change rooms were the smallest i have ever got changed in, it was like 22 people getting changed in the shower's. What made it worse was they smashed us to.

They have terrific rooms. Tiny ground though... smaller than ferndale I'd say, and rectangular. Great for spectators.

Agreed with the sentiments of those who are putting UHS-VU back in their box. 2006 saw a very substandard side from the zoo, and we shall wait and see what their successful visit to D4 transpires to this time round.

I think one cannot underestimate the difference between D3 first-timers Eltham and sides like Monash, Elsternwick, Hawthorn, and Latrobe who have spent the past few seasons at best beating, at worst being very competitive with clubs like Old Westbourne, South Melbourne Districts, Bentleigh etc, which would result in hardened bodies and the kind of experience that may just take a club like Eltham a few seasons in D3 to discover.

Anyway, one would imagine the 2008 season may just start on time, especially if we get a little more rainfall between now and April. Grounds generally are certainly greener and softer than what I remember this time last year.

Ur right on the money bout the grounds, I hope its not a dry february again this year..

I cant really comment on the hardness level from d3 to d4, i played both levels, fair enough i played D3 in 06 where we had a large group of players retire or move on (was bout 22 or 23 players b4 the season started from memory) then d4 the year after, but really the better teams in d4, (st marys, eltham, etc) played very hard and i didnt really notice a difference.. Also played Hawthorn in a praccie which seemed like the standard 4 the year.

I guess we will have 2 wait and see.

Has every1 started pre season yet?

It seems to me that each grade is seperated by about 10 goals hence Uni High and Eltham would need to improve by that much to be at the pointy end. Little or no improvement with an average injury run would see them 4-6 on the ladder. D4 improved last year but more so the bottom half getting better. The top three of 2006/07 were pretty similar.

Willy and St Johns are likely to be very strong. Were very competitive and if they retain last years list at worst will still be finals bound. However, would need to improve to be genuine Premiership contenders but not by much.

Hawks, Latrobe, Wicks and House will be thereabouts and a good injury run will see them bottom end of the four so some improvement from 2007 required. Some injury excuses running thin though. Blokes in their mid 30's are unlikley to give you 18 good games!

Monash and Swinny were competitive but will need to improve significantly to make progress. 5-6 goal improvement might see them at bottom of finals race.

One of the most even years in prospect that I can remember. Nagging feeling though that either Willy/St Johns might become a super side?

im just really eager to start playing to see exactly where were at and what we need to improve to be a real contender. I do think that st johns and willy will be real hard to beat, and am looking forward 2 it, i just hope we dont get smashed. I thought hawthorn were a good squad when we played em in the praccie, and we did quite well in 1's and 2's against them, but that was last year.. Roll on march!
