I agree with nikkoteen, its big but no good the cricket pitch in the middle isnt even covered. And if the ball roles down that massive hill on one side of the ground may as well call the game off u will never find it.

And if the last quote that VU's ground is bad u are kidding out of d4 last year easily the best.

Ahh Pisani, perhaps just a little exaggeration on your behalf, I can see you being the conservative and balanced voice on the D3 forum this year. The cricket pitch is certainly covered - a lot of grounds are using synthetic covers these days (St Marys and the finals venue at Vermont spring to mind). Haven't actually had to cancel any games for lost balls either! I guess we will let visitors make up their own minds about the quality of the ground, unless we get heavy rain I would think it will rate pretty highly in D3.

Eltham would be one of the best grounds (when dry) around if they converted back to a turf pitch. If I was on the committee there that would be my number one priority. Talk to your cricket club... show them the errors of their ways :)

Well, if you want to start up a turf cricket association in or at least near the Diamond Valley, then the EC cricket club may consider transferring out of the DVCA just to appease the D3 footballers :D

Hawthorn finished 2nd at the end of the h & a last year and if collins hadn't of gone o/s during the finals should have gone to d2. They will be there abouts and have a serious home ground advantage thus the only team to beat westbourne last year.

Crazy - you dis-respectin' the Hoes again ??? :D

Collins very good player - and the Hawks will be there abouts if they have kept the same list.

Keep up the good work Crazy !!

Where have you been Champ???? I hang out down at the D4 thread these days.
I would never disrepect the Hoes and I think if it hadn't been for a few brain fades in the GF they may have been premiers.

Are you going around again?

Been doing some travellin' mate.

As for last year - I think the better team won. No issue with that. Although some old bugger kicking in was pretty poor in the last 1/4.;)

Playing this year - most likely not.....but it's hard to say the 'r' word.

The boys have been training pretty hard and few back to the fold this year should see us with an improved list. It's a challenge going up a grade, but that's what it's all about.

You guys?

I liked ur ground.. it was good 2 play on and the scenery is nice (no offense intended, but this includes all ur girlfriends, not just the trees, theres something in the water up there).. I will however say the excrement on the ground however did wreak, u cant deny that, but other than that was pretty cool.. going through the tunnel 2 get to the ground made me feel like was in the afl.. Would have liked to play on it in the dry though. I thought vermont was a very average place to have finals though..

Hopefully we will go ok, to early to tell. Although the Crazy one will be playing after 5 years off.

I drove past Monash Gryphon's ground the other night and there were heaps of players on the track.

I also noticed big ruckman Chris Leeton had put on heaps of muscle in the upper body.

Maybe he is ready to regain the mantle as the number one ruckman in D3?

Are you sure you weren't confused and looking on the other side of the road and infact saw Chris Leeton in the beer garden of the Race Course Hotel taking on six bouncers while still managing to get his beam can down?

I guess this could count as training..........

2008 D3 Odds

Well done to those making some sort of prediction of what the ladder will be like at the end of the season. Here are my openning markets for the D3 season.

Team...... Prem Prom Top4 Rel Spn
Williamstown 2.80 1.40 1.20 16.0 35.0
St. J o h n s 3.00 1.50 1.30 15.0 31.0
Elsternwi c k 4.50 2.70 1.60 13.0 26.0
L a T r o b e 9.00 3.20 1.80 11.0 21.0
H a w t horn 9.00 5.00 2.20 7.00 13.0
Power house 18.0 12.0 2.60 2.80 6.00
Monash Gryp 26.0 14.0 2.80 2.30 4.50
U H S - V U. 31.0 15.0 3.20 2.60 5.50
E l tham O C 31.0 15.0 3.20 2.60 5.50
Swinburne U 41.0 16.0 4.00 2.00 3.50

Apologies if it's hard to read, the forum doesn't like tables

Tough field to draw up.

Everyone agrees Willie & JOC's are clear favorites and hard to beat. This leaves everyone else fighting for only two spots on the top 4. Elsternwick, La Trobe & Hawthorn all have good claims while Power House will require Eddo and Monash need to improve to make it. UHS & Eltham have a big task with so many teams vying for perhaps 1 position while also coming up.

Relegation is wide open, really hard to pick a cert to go down but on previous years form, Swinburne, Monash, Powerhouse along with the two coming up will be battling this out.

Odds differ from my predictions as I think these try to remove my personal views.

Any Takers??

I also like Glen Eira & Banyule to come down in 09 while Kew & St Francis Xavier will be the boys talking it up in the forum about how the standard in D4 is exactly the same as D3 now.

I would get on a multi bet with st johns for gf into monash to go down into west brunswick to come up.

Vermont wasnt that bad, it looked bad but it was ok.

Agree, the grass was very yellow but its just the variety that hibernates. The track wasn't great but I've seen a lot worse.

The posts were the lowest I've ever come across, the behind posts were only 3m which is the absolute minimum allowed in the rules. Even the local U9s posts are taller than that.

I think Vermont's main assets were that it was a) available and b) had a perimeter fence to allow charging for spectators.

dont know where you got your info about williamstowns financial crisis etc.you must be just trying to stir the pot huh? we had our best year financially in the history of the club, with some great sponsors chipping in.as for players walking out...not true at all.training started up again last week, and most of the senior players were there.as far as i know,we will only lose one good senior player due to work, but he will be replaced by a very fit tim wheeler.not sure if you guys know of him,but if he plays a full season, hes my tip for club and comp b+f.
we will be playing back at the fearon reserve in willy, yes its still small, but its in great condition.we are extremely disapointed about last year, and the reason why nobody has left the club is that we all want redemption.combine that with a new coach (ex club champion),new fitness coach, and a lot of very good new recruits,we are looking forward to the season.

Is David Lee playing for Willy in 08? If yes, will be a powerful forward line with him & Wheeler so I would being putting a few bucks on them to head straight back up to D2. After all they scrapped together 6 wins in D2 in 07 & appeared to have a shocking run with injury.

dave lee will be playing,no doubt.after kicking 40 odd goals last season in just 7 games, goes to show hes capable of kicking 100 if he stays fit.with young gun lucas couper making a comeback after injury,it will be very hard to stop willys forward line from kicking good scores.just a bit of info..after playing st.johns in the last game of the season, one of their good defenders definately retired, and their was talk that a couple of others(not many) will be going also.
