great to see that albert park got the business done against west brunswick on saturday. now a definite finals threat id say...

Going right out on a limb there Stewie!;)

AP are now 8 on the trot. Average winning margin of 49 points. In that stretched they have played every other final five team.
Average winning margin against other top 5 teams = 26.25points.

If that doesn't rate you a finals threat then I don't know what would.

Interesting to see that the guys in the best for AP in recent weeks are the same guys (generally) who have been at the club since the start. Dallas, Snowden, Allan, Baker and others are valuable additions obviously but it's not as if they've gotten in a whole new team. Interesting turn-around from the lakeside boys. Perhaps the early season disruption of the GP shouldn't be underestimated! Interesting too that of that run of 8, 6 were at their home ground.

The final 5 seem to have truly hotted up.

RC have conceded what many of us have known for a while... will BHN? Surely even RMs skill and enthusiasm aren't enough any more.

I think injuries will play a massive role come finals. The following is a list of players who may play finals come September. It is a list of those who didn't play on Sat and have played more senior than reserves games during the year:

WB - Henham, Lloyd, Saker, S.Dishon, Barclay
K - Looker, Watts, Dooley, Tinetti, Wyley, Denhert, Robinson, Cullen, Rees, Death....he doesn't sound to healthy at all poor chap, do you think he'll play another game this season, is it a long term injury!!
MT L - Finkemeyer, Roberts, Maniscalchi, Paull
AP - McManus, Maunder, Venables
SFX - Gargan, Pearson, Curry, Scanlon

With the exception of Venables and Maunder all have played more than 7 senior games this year!

AP had a horrific run with injuries early on but have seemed to be able to get close to their best side on the park for the past month.

Obviously you are never going to be full strength. It has been a slow work day

...................

wouldnt you think so on current form? i mean taking out the top 2 teams in the last 2 weeks is no mean feat & 1 at a ground where its difficult to win at the best of times. the falcons are motoring beautifully at the moment & SHOULD be classed as a finals threat i believe...

The internet is difficult for people who cant understand sarcasm isnt it...

AP must be pretty close to full strength considering Venables was playing in the ressies last weekend? Unless he has a brother...

understand you perfectly, macnessa... a little bit of healthy sarcasm makes good this thread!! ;) youve got to admit though that the falcons will make sure they go places come finals time...

It really is a case of 3 into 2 for promotion isn't it?

Apologies to Mt L & SFX, but I can't see you as in the race.

It'll make for an interesting & competitive D4 next year anyway... And interesting to have two Uni teams coming back to join us as well...

Bong Pocket answering in behalf of Macnessa??????

just like stewie i'll go out on a limb and say albert park are finals contenders

Very shocked to see Albert Park beat West Brunswick on the weekend.
I missed our last Albert Park game (3 weeks ago) injured - but watching from the sidelines they didn't look a finals side. We played fairly ordinary and got within 10 points with 6-7 mins to go. So they've obviously really kicked into gear or some teams are having off days.

Someone mentioned earlier that Pearson didn't play for SFX on the weekend....I can confirm that he DID PLAY and played well.

Ozza,

There are about 5 Pearsons that play at St Francis.
Albert Park must have had a bad day because they blew us away with 10 minutes of footy.
This weeks AP v ML clash looms as a ripper with winner earning themselves 3rd spot. West will hold onto to top spot and earn the weeks rest and Kew need to win 2 of the next 3 to guarantee the double chance.

Interesting few weeks ahead.

Congrats to Dave Viola who booted 12 my sources tell me that his last 6 shots at goals were 5 behinds and one on the full. Could have had 18.

Guys last week we looked at Full back and Full Forward for team of the year and Cam Liston copped a bit, despite not actually nominating himself.:D Hopefully we can create some similar discussion over the ruck and onball/centre positions. Once again I will save my thoughts for the Footballer, but there are many many worthy contenders.

As mentioned, there are plenty of Pearsons out Pakenham way, however Glenn Pearson who would be a contender for the comp B&F didnt play.

Ruck: G. Bell, M. Rhodes, W. McIndoe

Greg Bell has had a great year for Kew this year and was D3 ruckman of the year in 2006 before missing most of 2007 with a broken hand. He come along way since toiling away in the Banyule seconds.

Ben Cookson has had another good year for the Cobras, as has Damian Truslove. Trusser may not get the kudos from other teams, but he plays the consumate team game, working hard on bringing teammates into the game rather than doing the flashy stuff himself.

Tough competition in a year with dominant clubs & dominant on-ball divisions, but they've both worked extremely hard this year for our club.:thumbsu:

Agree with Infineform on Truslove. For mine he is their most important player.

Bell was the best Ruck I've seen this year. Irving, T.Pearson, Pizzari have all been impressive in the midfield.

As a ruck/follower you can't go past Rhodes. Pure ruckwork its probably a bit less clear-cut but he'd still get my vote based on importance to the team.

In one of the more important games for MTL when they play AP this week (trying to hold onto to third place) and they will be without Rhodes who will be in Sydney this weekend, out also are co-captains Hickey (concussed) & Roberts (still inj), they will also be without Finkemeyer & Gibson (both inj) while Nicholls will be unavailable.

Rucks:
Bell for his ruckwork but not so effective around the ground.
McIndoe good all round but not really dangerous going forward.
Gall very good tap work, dangerous forward, drops back, strong hands, a bit lumbering.

Should be between these 3. Rhodes really more a ruck/rover than a ruck.

D4 Midfield:
T.Wall(mt.L)-True hard ball player, so consistant. D.Pizzari(Nth.B)Shining light in a dark year, good leader. B.Irving(W.B)Probably the best on his day. S.Bennet(A.Park)Seems a natural footy type. M.Rhodes(mt.L)The big 'T', great to watch and has a big motor.
:thumbsu::thumbsdown:
Obviously there would be alot more players who deserve a mention.....but I will leave it up to others to put a few up.
