I don't think the coach's spray was all that vitriolic, but he had been copping a fair bit all day so maybe that tilted him over the edge. I made sure that my criticisms of him were not when he was within earshot!

How long had Salter been around the club lakey? I don't know anything of his history. He was the most one eyed reserves umpire I've ever played with though.

I'm gonna start a favourite 'Tuggerism moment' theme.

Offield
Where: Japan
What: Tugger informs me it is a 5 minute walk to the Four Seasons Hotel from the Local Train Station. I happily agree to walk through the streets as I thought it would be a good experience ... 45 minutes later we arrive at the Hotel.

Onfield
Where: Elgar Park
What: Tugger awards a free kick (correctly ) and comes in to explain to our one of our players why he paid it. After yelling in the players ear why he paid it, 'The Better Doyle' simply said "Yes I understand why you paid it but you don't need to disrespect me by shouting in my ear" .... Never have I seen an umpire shut up so quickly ... I may have even heard an apology.

Umpiring the two's at Eltham last year on my own, on a typically cold Eltham day. Tugger noticed that I was doing it hard & volunteered to help me out in the 2nd half. Doubt he got any extra for it, but he certainly got my apreciation on the day.

Tugger - I didn't agree with every decision that you made, but you've got the balls to make them. That elevates you above most of the blokes that hang around this forum.:thumbsu:

Round 7 Tips
AP vs NB - AP by 70 Points, North Brunny just don't have the cattle to compete at the moment.
STHo vs RC - RC by 4 Goals. RC just had a close one vs BHN which doesn't say much for there prospects of competing with the top sides but should account for Syndal.
WB vs EP - WB by a lot .... say 15 Goals
MtL vs BC - Mt Lilydale by 3 Goals in a very close tight contest.
SFX vs SM - SFX by 8 Goals
Kew vs BHN - Kew by 90 points. BHN just don't have the midfield or forward line (Penny not included) to be competitive with Kew.

AP by 5 goals
RC by 1 point
WB by 10 goals
MtL by 5 goals
SFX by 5 goals
Kew by 8 goals

It doesn't seem like a round for upsets, but if the conditions are the same as last week then who knows.

Not sure who rated the West Brunswick ground but they get a bix cross:mad::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: for the showers on the weekend. Mud was everywhere and a luke warm 1cm trickle of water does not do a lot to get the mud off or to warm up.

More than likely that was us reserves players getting the rooms dirty and using up all the hot water. Remember you were one of us once upon a time;)

Sorry - I wasn't referring to the mud in the rooms - the rooms themselves were great. I was referring to the mud on me and the trickle of water was not able to wash of half the oval that was left on my vast abnd expansive person.
Very unlikely to forget my roots. But thanks for the reminder!

Big game for BHN this week against Kew who will go in big favourites. Apparently a guy named Horne is the one to watch, how does he go???

Not overly quick, but strong. Hard to move and knows where the sticks are. Keep the pressure on him early and you are a chance to break him - but if you don't it could be a long day if he starts to get hold of the pill, particularly if his team mates are getting it to him nicely. They will look for him quite often but don't ALWAYS go to him (a la Powerhouse and Eddo, or Eltham and that Ranga Hollywood)

A few years, and I think your comments on him being one-eyed are a tad harsh. There was never a biased or one sided thought in his head. Too nice a bloke,,,,,,

Yeah no way Johnny was biased. He called it as he saw it, albeit he would often call a random free kick about 3 minutes after he saw it.

I want to be harsh, but will keep myself to agreeing with what you've said!

Johnny might have umpired a lot of good games, but Bulleen had a bad experience.

Johnny Salter didn't have a biased bone in his body and umpired at a far higher level than most people realise or remember,he did struggle in latter years and he would admit that himself, racked with arthritis but still showed up when RC were struggling and nobody wanted to help.
Good idea for the Salter Cup for ressies and Brunnings Cup for seniors both clubs get them done and I will through in 1 weeks umping fees towards costs.

Welcome Back Nellup! I hope you're back for a while. It hasn't been the same without you! Looking forward to seeing you umpire us as well. We haven't seen you this year!

I reckon we should slow down a bit on the Salter cup lads, having been around the centrals for alot of years i can name 10 blokes who have done more around the club than Johnny. (As much as i love the strange old fella!) Whilst he was passionate and was always there when we needed him i would hate for this to be decided without more discussion. For example what about the Lakey11 Cup - longest serving coach in the clubs history got to stand for something!!

Right... So I put this to the committee at Box Hill North.... You design and purchase a trophy named after whoever is deemed worthy from your establishment. And we do the same. Yours can be presented to the winner of the seniors, and ours for the reserves.

Or... We just have one for the seniors and leave the darn reserves out of it ;)

I rekon there should be one for the ressies. They are as much a part of our club / comp and footy in general as the seniors. Especially at our level.
