The Undertaker is not prone to making heat of the moment comments & loves the footy tough and hard, but their display in the last quarter did nothing to dispell the theory that amongst their ranks they still have, banjo playing, tree swinging, sister loving ingrades.

Rhodes likely to miss 4-6 weeks for a cheap shot, their captain sent off and then wanted to fight someone on the sidelines and No4 obviously has small man syndrome, who was more interested in entering into banter with AP supporters than concentrating on what he was dressed for.

What is the point of making these "heat of the moment" comments Undertaker?

Yes, the captain should not react to p!ss weak small minded comments from your supporters who if they are interested in throwing the bait out for a fight may actually need to be prepared to follow through with it.
And of course players are going to give a bit of mouth back to the opposition bench when they are copping it when the game is clearly over and frustration has set in , just like every other game every other week.

As for stating that "Rhodes likely to miss 4-6 weeks for a cheap shot", mate.....did you actually see it? Your player that was supposedly on the end off the "cheap shot" himself said that there was nothing for the tribunal to even waste their time on.

At the end of the day, both teams shook hand and genuinly wished each other the best for the rest off the year. So why not leave it at that and look to the next match and continue on with what is certainly an improving team that will knock a few of the top sides around in the next few weeks.

Is there a directive to the umpires to get the game moving quickly instead of trying to themselves get in amongst a "mellee" and try to stop it?

It seems to me that when an umpire is trying to separate a skuffle that he is in fact only contributing to the agro of the players involved.

To simply throw the ball up and allow the contest to continue seems the most logical option in defusing the situation. After all, we are all just out there to get to footy and not the man........Right?

Sounds like the captain is missing his slice of the big "D" if he can't keep his trap shut when the opposition bench stir him up.
If the game is clearly over, what's the point of giving a bit of mouth back? Not a lot to be gained engaging in dialogue with anyone not involved in the game.

The tribunal have a history of wasting their time on incidents that aren't worth wasting their time on.

Kew had fight hard for the 4 points. Eley Park led 8 goals to 2 goals during the second 1/4. Dave Viola kicked 5 in the first and was on target to beat us on his own. Good bunch of blokes with out door social rooms which I must say is a first.

Arm wrestle until half time and then AP began to control the contested ball and run through the corridor. Their direct play produced five goals for the quarter and contol of the match.

Excellent efforts seeing as they had 4 of their best 12 players out. Baker, Kane, Venables & Cain.

Fear in the eyes of full backs through D4 with Sean Allan turing back the clock to 2003. Still the best kick for goal in D4 and the dukes were strong!

As for MTL, work hard but appear to just lack the class factor to put teams away.

But all is not lost, The Undertaker liked what he saw in their reserves, plenty of talented youth who over time will develop into good footballers, as long as they do not take their lead from their more celebrated senior players who lost their heads in the last quarter of the senior match.

I wouldn't of thought it was to wise to bag a club that you will most likely meet in a final if you make it.

Richmond v Kew this weekend.

Another must win for the snakes. (Heck they all are with AP breathing down our necks.)

Its probably a good thing we don't have to play them again. Good that we can play lilydale at home though.

MtL vs AP was hard-fought, but apart from a couple of heated minutes in the last qtr there didn't appear to be any spite in the game, and there certainly seemed to be plenty of mutual respect after the final siren. They meet again in about 6 wks so I guess will have to wait and see if there is any carry over effect, I wouldn't think so, I imagine the 4 points will be of paramount importance. Falcons pretty happy to get a win where few visiting teams succeed, they were embarrassed by their performance up there last year.

In terms of the umpires keeping the game moving, dunno, might wanna ask nellup about that one, he was right on the spot, although he might be a bit restricted in what he can say if he was the one who made the report. Looks like the tribunal is in for a busy night judging by the long list of players on the VAFA website!

Kudos to the ump who ran the 2's game by himself and then doubled up with nellup to do the senior game.

I am aware it was Nellup in amongst the scuffle doing his best to keep the thing ugly instead of throwing the ball up and getting the game moving. I was not going to name him in my original comment for fear of giving him more reason for not posting on this site.

When the scuffle broke out the umpire in question lost control, stood there watching like he had purchased a front row seat/ticket. The other ump did the right thing by calling out to his counterpart to get the ball moving and when he did amazingly the players chased the ball...tis amazing yeah:rolleyes:

Can't wait to see your "new" coaches box and the advantage that will bring;)

We play the lillies shortly so I had the road trip again,by some of the comments some of you must have been at a different game, what I saw was nellie pay a 25,the scuffle brake out then both umps looked at each other, the other ump had obviously seen the 25 and positioned himself at the spot, got the ball and started play leaving nellie to mop up;From what I know of game with 2 umps that is exactly what is supposed to happen,as far as just balling it up when a side has been awarded a 25,I'd be pretty upset if I were on that side and lost the advantage.

Whilst trying to find out what club Matt Dillon's from by looking at previous posts I stumbled upon this gem from Peter Pan. At least you had a go Pete!!!

Anyone willing to throw out an preseason ladder prediction?

Here are my thoughts

top few:

BHN - On the way up - not this year
Eley Park Sharks - big off season recruiting I hear - have definitely been big improvers judging by past month and a bit
Mt Lilydale - dark horse finals contenders - may miss out if Richmond can keep winning

middle of road:
West Brunswick - not sure how they'll react to the drop - i think we have all seen how'd they would react!
North Brunswick - early preseason = April champions = No games in September - still won't be playing in September
Albert Park - can't see them going that well. New coach might change
that though - would say he has changed it based on past 2 weeks
Syndal - Manny hanging around? - probably not after this year

down there:

Richmond Centrals, will be OK but nothing special. - will press for finals
Bulleen Cobras - big changes required - at the moment has changed slightly in boths areas
South Mornington - exodus of players is on the cards - correct
Kew - merger did nothing for them last year, they won't improve any this season - obviously mergers are stronger in the second year:D

Just a thought anyway, I look forward to finding out how close my predictions are when the season gets underway in 5 months

Good call Dill.
I would also think the umpires have a duty of care to watch closely :thumbsu: any flare up. No team likes to have someone decked and the ump claim he was looking elsewhere.

eley park "good bunch of blokes" - this is a first, never heard them described in such a manner. certainly not in my first hand experiences. a bit on the nose the boys from the park. and an outdoor social set-up - great idea in the middle of winter. good thinking.

Like most clubs Eley Park have a couple of people who generally don't endear themselves to the opposition, but like most clubs they are in the minority.

It's not really their fault the council built them a pavillion with no social rooms. Well I've heard that maybe it was their fault but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

With the exception of SFX and Mt Lily.as far as I am aware all D4 grounds are maintained by councils and rooms provided by councils for footy during winter and reverting to cricket for summer,so where to does anybody get off bagging a clubs ground and rooms when it is out of their control, very ordinary comments when the clubs have no control.
