It would be nice to play you guys at your ground every season or two ;)

That brings up a question - any ground you particularly like or dislike playing at?

Back in my playing days I used to dread a mid-winter trip to Hawthorn - when that ground was muddy it used to stink, and I don't think I ever had a hot shower there! I remember one of our trainers running around after a game with a bottle of betadene and dabbing all our cuts and grazes, she was paranoid we would all get some infection lol.

The other was Old Westbourne, a barren windswept place, with tiny changerooms that used to flood when the showers were turned on, I'll never forget the half time address by the coach one year, basically along the lines of "Lets just win the game and get the f*** out of here". Which we did, after going in for a drink of course!

On the other hand played on a couple of fine days at Bulleen when the ground was like a carpet, absolutely fantastic.

Hawthorn has new rooms now, but the ground is still tiny. Nice surface though. I hear westbourne had a fortune spent on their clubhouse as well.

Latrobe is now easily the biggest (and perhaps best) ground in D4.

The ground I hate playing on most is Albert Park. Not because of the surface or clubrooms, but because of the rain and wind we always seem to get down there.

played at both of those grounds as well, ratfink - agree with you on your summation about hawthorns paddock: played there some time in the 90s & everything about the place was a shocker. we have them in round 8 so itll be interesting to see what the new ones are like as i remember the visitors changing rooms as a shoebox with 1 shower that had 2 minutes (if that) of hot water!!

so i take it the ground hasnt changed much then??

old westbourne is STILL a windswept place but i guess thats what you get for being out in the backblocks of truganina where there arent any wind breaks!! but the rooms are pretty damn good with 10-12 showers with plenty of the hot stuff!!

our rooms are super fine too to go with the superb surface we now play on, i might add...

la trobe probably one of the best grounds in the ammo's these days. after all the work last year great surface, also the lights are great. has been hosting night matches for the under 19s

Box Hill North vs La Trobe Uni - La Trobe are very up and about - uni by 50
Chadtone v KEW - bears by 61
Richmond Centrals v North Brunswick - snakes by 22
Mount Lilydale v Manningham - cobras by 7
Albert Park v Swinburne Uni - falcons by 19
Eley Park v South Mornington - sharks by 27

Box Hill North vs La Trobe Uni - La Trobe are defiently one of the teams to beat and this will be a nice percentage booster. La Trobe by 88 pts.

Chadstone v KEW - Chadstone i believe will not win a game and will get smashed again this saturday. Kew by 148 pts.

Richmond Centrals v North Brunswick - Richmond will in the mix this season and will make it three in a row here. Richmond by 34 pts.

Mount Lilydale v Manningham - Mt Lilydale wont lose two in a row at home and Manningham just arent up to it. Mt Lilydale by 45 pts.

Albert Park v Swinburne Uni - My Match of the Round. Saw Albert park last weekend first hand and they are the real deal, seemed to improved on last year, taller and well drilled, my early flag favourite, to be honest dont know much about Swinbourne, Albert Park by 23 pts.

Eley Park v South Mornington - This should be another good game, Eley Park have won three in a row but havent beaten anyone decent yet, South need to bounce back after getting hammered by Albert Park last week. South by 12 pts.

Reserves:

La Trobe, Kew, North Brunswick, Mt Lilydale, Albert Park, South Mornington

OW moved across the road three years ago, the old ovals are a housing estate now. The new ovals are on top of a hill and are the highest point for miles around - so there's always wind! It ain't called Arctic Park II for nothing!

Another week of very high scores in D4. Is there 5 team way ahead of the others or is that just me?????

Yeah would tend to agree with you Bronsen, AP, LTU, Kew, RC, Swinburne look the final 5, SM could sneak a place.
On Sat we were fairly average against SM, Swinburne got flogged by AP but AP will win the flag this year? Kew & LTU look the goods while MTL surprise surprise can only beat teams below them (just). And with RC winning again well Bigwaz thinks that this is better than sex (that's if he has ever had any!).

Having not seen a D4 game this year is it safe for me to assume that Albert Park are a fair way ahead of the rest ? Their results have been super impressive.
Are they a better side than what West Brunswick were last year?

I certainly hope not.

South won by 77 points against eley the paper had the reserves scores in there.

On the top 5 i would agree with AP, Latrobe, Kew and Richmond being ahead of the pack with the last spot to be fought out by South and Mt Lilydale. Not sure about Swinbourne yet. Swinbourne play Mt lilydale this week so that will be interesting.

And on Albert park i reckon there a fraction better than West Brunswick last season, they just have so many TALL options up forward, with there onballers kicking goals and there TALL backline is rock solid, i cant wait for Latrobe V Albert Park in Round 8. will tell us alot.

Latrobe may struggle at Albert Park on the small oval, where Albert Park may struggle at Latrobe playing on the big oval. Games plans/players will need to be adjusted/changed as there is a huge difference in ground size.

Handsinback you are a spoon!!! surprise surprise!!! what has eley park done besides finish in the bottom 3 the last five years? We have made finals every year since coming up from clubbies where we won the granny!! Three wins is a far cry from making the finals you idiot! maybe worry about your own team staying out of the bottom 3 before you start bagging ours!
one more for the road can you remind who won the praccy at the start of the year, and if you tell me that you werent at full strength i will be sick!! Maybe think before you type

Round five predictions:

BHN @ SM - SM are going to be strong in this game, especially at home, and especially early in the season. If they can beat Eley Park by 90 points then they should do the same to the struggling BHN :(

AP @ NB - Another 100 point win for AP. Perhaps the (sort of) home ground will help out NB, but not enough.

The Chad @ RC - Unfortuntaely for Chadstone, things don't get any easier this week. RC by 1 point.

Kew @ Mann - Manningham will be fuming after not finishing the Mounties last week. While Kew had a training run v The Chad. Look for a tough game here. Kew by 3 goals.

EP @ Latrobe - EP have hit the tough part of their schedule after an easy first few weeks. Latrobe remain undefeated by 10 goals.

MtL @ Swin - Sure its early days, but the loser of this game could struggle to make the finals this season. Both sit at 2-2, and both would have expected to be better than that. Match of the round for sure. The small ground will also help to keep things close. MtL are used to playing on a big ground, so might struggle dealing with the big forwards from Swinburne. Swinburne by 3 goals.

D4 dominated the tribunal this week:

Paul Hildebrand, Swinburne University. Striking, 4 matches.

Daniel Lyne, Albert Park. Failed to appear, 1 match.

*Cameron Liston, Box Hill North. Striking, 2 matches.

*Lachlan McFadzean, La Trobe University. Striking, 2 matches
