Interesting that Monash went down in the Reserves to NB... That wouldn't have been expected by the gryphs.

Probably not expected but was a very close and well fought game. It was a much higher standard of 2's football I have seen in a long time. I think with the condition of the ground being watered as much as it was, it took some getting used to with skills as well as bodies. It was quite different to the hard grounds over pre-season and this was a little more taxing on the legs. Looking forward to the return bout at East Caulfield.

Watched the 2nd half of the reserves and all of the senior match and would have to say the standard of both games really surprised me.Monash bigger bodies and better use of the ball got them over the line in the 1's and the 2's was won at the death in a top game.
I watched a mate from monash who thought that they would account for both teams easily so maybe underestimated the opposition.

If you can kick five against one of the better defenses in the league, and on a 'slow' track as well from reports, wouldn't you leave him there?

He's one of the best midfielders in the comp - has a huge engine and gets plenty of clearances - so he is too important in the middle.

Was a classic game that could have gone either way - Monash were in front by 3 and a half goals mid way through the last term so it was a huge effort.

We have a bit of quality to come back into the side that missed due to injury or other reasons so we should be a little stronger next time.

The Monash 2s are a very good side and will take some beating this year.

Meant to mention the umpires in the reserves , they were the two best umpires i have seen and no doubt contributed to the standard of the game. I didn't realize that they were supplied by the clubs playing until later on when commenting on the 1's umpires.

They have 15 junior sides! no one in D4 can compete with that in the long run, except maybe South Mornington who have a handful I believe.

Tough loss for SM... Losing a close one at home, then having to travel to Monash in round 2. Ouch.

Round 1 Power Rankings........................... (I wont rate RC)

1. Monash (-)
2. Manningham (-)
3. Swinburne (-)
4. North Brunswick (-)
5. Mt Lilydale (-)
6. Point Cook (-)
7. South Mornington (-)
8. Eley Park (-)
9. Chadstone (-)
(-) Box Hill North (-)

Hope to see a bit of the youth push through to Seniors this year Waz , maybe a couple in the next time at your ground to give us the extra run we probably ran out of !
A very good TEAM at RC. The big fellow in the Ruck was really good and their engine room played well and the forwardline shared the ball around evenly. I thought both sides skill level was of a much better standard than i thought it would be. Ball moved very quick through the lines , not alot of scappy play at all.
Our guys will only improve from here and were very positive given the loss , they all know the standard now and will work to lift above it.
The return bout at your ground should be another cracker:thumbsu:

No waz - playing. Brad Martin is the new reserves coach.

Ozza what about Penny from BHN in your goal kicking leaderboad?

Told you Manningham for premiers..........
Its roosters goal kicking board - but yes Penny usually kicks a few.

Injuries? This time of year?
Couple of blokes a bit sore from praccies nothing too serious.

They were very good. Lucas is always very good, Monash's umpire was good too.

Travelled to Jordan Reserve on saturday to take on a 'lowly rated Chadstone. I got to watch the 2's game and noticed a few senior boys from the previous years running around and was impressed with the pressure of the Chadstone 2's, which took away any slight thought of it being an easy day in the 1's. The 1's was a real physical clash maybe due to the weather(rained pretty much the first half) as more bodys seemed to go to ground in them conditions. We broke away with the game a little in the 3rd as it dryed up and ran away in the last thanks to our run via the backline who stood up well all day. I thought Chadstone were better than the score line showed after the 4 quaters and I am passing on the advice to all other D4'ers to not take them lightly, they have a great midfield who drop back with plenty of run to help out the defence. Good luck to 'em for the year

Sneako.......Chadstone kicked 4 goals for the day.......I reckon B.H.Nth had a harder day against BYE than your mountain boys did.

Can`t say the umpire from Richmond who did the two`s on the weekend was entierly fair................seems a control freak telling umpires at the other end of the ground off when they were originally correct and i believe as the league had officials there as guests of Pt Cook that they let him know as well...

In fairness to Brian...

He told the other ump off for overruling his decision from a distance.

a few weeks back i posted on this thread that there was a good footballer named todd lawrie from point cook which was met with a couple skeptical posts.........1st game of the year 3 goals and BOG from him....not a bad start.
