Talk around the traps is that North Brunswick have a new senior coach.

From their website:

COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT – May 5th, 2010

Last night at regular Tuesday night training at Allard Park, the Committee and Playing group were brought inside for an announcement regarding Senior coach, Christian Stagliano.

After having worked with the Collingwood Football Club in the past, Christian has now been offered a permanent role working at Collingwood, specifically with their VFL program. As Christian has had aspirations to be involved with football at the highest levels – this opportunity was too good pass up, and unfortunately for our Football club – Christian is no longer able to coach North Brunswick.

I have no doubt that John is a terrific umpire. But there is room for controversy, simply because he's affiliated with the club.

I think there is a chicken vs. Egg what comes first thing going on here.

You can approach the vafa and ask to pay for a senior umpire allocated to run reserves too. Typically happens when games are out woop woop and normal club umpires can't make it. Definitely happens.

Is that what happened here? Or is there some history we Forum posters not affiliated with mt lilydale aren't privy to?

Makes perfect sense... But not when the same umpire does reserves and seniors the following week 90mins away in Point Cook or South Mornington.

Think of it the other way round Waz, he's a senior umpire who does the Mt. Lilydale reserves every week as well.

Ok.... I'm sure everyone's sick of me going on about it. One more thing... Is it proper then that a senior umpire should be paid by the same club every week?

You would think that the VAFA would pay for the Senior game. Does he even get paid to do the Reserves??

I understood that the Mt Lilydale club paid for both. Anyway - it's a bit irrelevant anyway. The VAFA has given the green light for it to happen. So unless another umpire he officiated was to speak to Benny Goodman about concerns about his umpiring (unlikely) or other clubs were to write letters of complaint (en masse), I doubt anything is going to change.

Same story as our reserves umpires that regularly get complained about.

Round 5 Tips

Progressive Score: 16/20

North Brunswick vs Manningham - NB by 2 goals
South Mornington vs Chadstone - SM by 10 goals
Box Hill North vs Monash - BHN by 1 point
Richmond Central vs Eley Park - RC by 3 goals
Point Cook vs Mt Lilydale - MtL by 9 goals

15/15 progressive.

South Mornington vs Box Hill North - 17 points.
Monash vs Point Cook - 56 points.
Mt Lilydale vs Richmond - 7 points.
Swinburne Uni vs Chadstone - 67 points.
Eley Park vs Manningham - 36 points.

19/20 progressive. The sharks surprised me on the weekend.

Seems that the home teams have had a slight advantage so far this year with 65% wins for the home team. So when in doubt I am going to side with the home team.

North Brunswick vs Manningham - 28 points. I still rate North brunswick as a very competitive team and they should make finals. Only blip on the radar is the flogging to Mt Lilydale. A week off to recover and a home ground advantage I am siding with NB to run away with this even with a newish coach.
South Mornington vs Chadstone - 23 points. Long trip home for Chadstone and expect South Mornington to hold on to this one.
Box Hill North vs Monash - 95 points. After last weeks performance against Pt Cook(who beat Box Hill North the previous week) this should be a big percentage booster for the Gryphs... as long as the wind and rain can stay away. Either way Gryphs comfortably.
Richmond Central vs Eley Park - 15 points. This should be an interesting game. I would expect the Sharks to be on a high after last weeks win but the Snakes should be too strong at home.
Point Cook vs Mt Lilydale - 112 points. Another big percetage booster for Mt Lilydale... again, as long as the wind and rain can stay away.

Good call with Eley Park last week. I would have thought everyone would have tipped Manningham. You got some inside info on the sharks? We don't see them much on here.

No I haven't heard anything about EP this year really.

They have always been a 5 goal better side at home though... That ground is tough to play on. They usually play two wingers on the short wing and teams can get caught out.

They picked up a couple of fellas just after round 1-2 that can play footy. They are one of those teams that thrive on momentum and with the added personel may get going now.

Round 5 Tipping:

Nth.B vs Mann.....Mann need to get back on track now, but so do Nth i guess. Manningham to get the points in a tight one.
Sth.M vs Chaddy....Sth.Mornington by 12 goals.
Box.H.N vs Monash....Im going to pray for an upset but think Monash will get home by 5 goals.
R.Cent vs E.Park....Rich.C to bounce back from a loss to win by 4 goals.
P.Cook vs MT.L....Mt.L can only get better with so many still to come back. Mt.L by 7 goals.

mt lilydale have a few outs this week so it will be a big game and this will see if we are a top 2 or a top 5 team. But i think we will win but it will be closer then everyone thinks.

just been reading up on the last two pages and there is a lot of umpire bashing going on 1 thing we set as a goal at the start of the season was to not worry about them they all make crap decisons and just to move on just becausw we might pay him and im not sure about that so i cant coment on it but the player in q getts targeted week in week out and dosent sook to mutch about it yes he missed a few the week befor and picked up one on the weekend but you have to just get on with it he isnt afl level he is at d4 level think about that

Round 4 Preview

Sth Mornington over Box Hill Nth by 24 Pts (South are really not as bad as their 0-3 scoreline suggests and at home will be far too strong for the Demons. Greg Pullen to star for the home side).
Monash over Pt Cook by 33 Pts (The Gryphons ‘Achilles heel’ has been their belated starts so I am sure this is something that the coaching staff will be looking to rectify. Pt Cook have not lived up to pre-season hype and will find this one too tough. Mick Malloy to star across half back for the victors).
Mt Lilydale over Richmond by 11 Pts (Match of the se4ason thus far. The two early season pacesetters are sure to please the sell-out crowd at Mercy College. If the Snakes can shut down the Rams forward line they will probably win, but I fancy the home side in a tight, hard fought contest).
Swinburne over Chadstone by 116Pts (The margin is the only variable once again and it is hard to see what is motivating Chadstone each week).
The Cobras over Eley Park by 18 Pts (Should be a tight contest and is the sort of game Manningham simply have to win if they are to challenge for finals. I think their harder bodied players may prove too much for the Sharks, but it will be close all day)

Round 4 Review:

4/5 (16/20 cumulative)

All media reports have centred on Mt Lilydale since Saturday’s most impressive demolition of Richmond at the college oval. So much so that the Rams have hired a Media Relations Officer to manage the press reports. They are the clear winners from the weekend and they deserve premiership favouritism. Monash were the other club to make a statement to the rest of the competition as they disposed of Pt Cook with ease. The Bulldogs may prove to be easy pickings (especially away from home) but the Gryphs kicked the first 15 goals of the game at East Caulfield and basically denied Pt Cook possession. Many are saying it’s a two horse race. I am reserving judgment as it is only May. Full marks to the Eley Park for holding on against the Cobras. They showed they are a legitimate finals chance and left Manningham pondering what might have been. Swinburne should’ve beaten Chadstone by more, but the Synners will be heartened by their most competitive effort in ages. A win for them is nigh. Finally, Sth Mornington comfortably beat the Demons at Citation to notch up their first of the season. Looks like both clubs will struggle to feature at the business end though...

Round 5 Preview:

Nth Brunswick over The Cobras by 23 Pts (Should be a fiery Northern Derby as the loser falls right off the pace, however I favour the home side who should relish the damp conditions at Allard Park).
South Mornington over Synners by 54 Pts (The Tigers would not want to take this game lightly as Chadstone are a developing nation, however class will prevail. Mitchell Duff to continue his good form for the home side)
Monash over BHN by 67 Pts (The Gryphons juggernaut is gaining momentum each week and realistically the Demons will be lucky to get this close as the depth at Monash is the best in the comp. Matt Fletcher to star for the visitors).
Snakes over the Sharks by 17 Pts (Arguably match of the round as Eley Park are also improving, but Richmond cannot afford to drop home games if they are the real deal and should win a close one. James Egan to prove the difference).
Mt Lilydale over Pt Cook by 58 Pts (It will be far more committed Doggies outfit tomorrow, but they are playing the competition frontrunners who will be far too strong in the wash up. Rams comfortably)

Good Luck to all

Great stuff Quasi.
Round 5 Tips:
Nth.B v Manny - Im thinking this could be match of the round. both sides had plenty of pre-season backing but the loser will have only one win from five rounds. Nth.B may lift for a new coach and Manningham might just put a side on the field that get along. Nth.B by 6 goals.
Sth.M v Chad - Chadstone averaging just over 30 points a game and Sth.M just over 90 points a game. Split the difference and Sth.M by 10 goals.
B.H.N v Mona - B.H.Nth are a better outfit in 2010 but they will find out this weekend just how far of the mark they are. Monash by 15 goals.
Rich.C v E.Park - E.Park are also well improved but they to will suffer a wake-up call from the snakes to the tune of 15 goals.
Point.C v Mt.Lily - Should be a close match.

Magoos: Manningham, Sth.Mornington, Monash, Richmond, Mt.Lilydale.

OK 'not the real 35' you and I are going to spend 30 minutes every thursday working on some grammar (also working on our drinking action).
Most of the muppets on here already believe us mountain boys to be a bunch of 'nuff-nuffs' so lets not allow them any more ammo.;)
