So, is playing a side the Saturday after they have had a Bye an advantage?, or a disadvantage? This seasons' draw sees quite a disparity. Whereas Chadstone plays 5 teams the Saturday after those teams have had a Bye, neither North Brunny or Richmond Central play a team coming off a Bye. Stats for the other teams are:

Eley Park (1)
Swinburne (1)
Box Hill North (1)
Mt Lilydale (2)
Manningham (2)
Monash (2)
South Mornington (3) and
Point Cook (3).

Interesting stat!

A bye gives a team a chance to settle and recover from injuries... so surely its a disadvantage to the other side.

pointless stat for d4 vafa, surely a 7 day break is sufficient for a league of our standard.
I'm hoping our boys (BHN) put in a good a good showing this week.
Been decimated by injury again this week, but I'm sure the boys will have a redhot dip
yes i am sure of the above paradox haha

No, I disagree. We have had a number of players with injuries which have kept them out for a week. So the Bye gives them a chance to play the following week - without the Bye they would have missed a game.

There's been alot of speculation about this 2010 season with alot of new faces joining the D4 ranks. I wandered down to point cook yesterday to have a squiz at this Mt. Lilydale team i have heard so much about. As i entered the arena the first thing i realised was alot of familiar faces in casual clothes that would normally be supporting the blue and yellow. With a vast amount of senoir players out do we really expect them to go all the way? What injuries will hurt this side the most? One can't help but mention the loss of Brian Boomsma was alot more obvious than first expected.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? - you are the WORST boundary umpire i have ever come across.

- Weak, insipid throw ins
- Digraceful talking back to players including derogatory remarks about the quality of residence who reside in the suburb

....i could go on and on - and i will

- Complete misunderstanding of simple rules
- Your appearance resembled a 12 yr old girl with a beatles haircut
- Lifeless, pathetic whistle blowing

...to be honest you were put to shame by the 10yr old who was umpiring the other side of the field.

If you're not going to contribute on the field...then for the love of God lift your game off it.

Monash had a big win over Bhn too much marking power on the small ground and some interesting results in the other games.
Sth Morn smashed Chaddy ,Eley Park had a great win over Rich Cent, Nth too good for Mann Cobras, and Point Cook put up a good performance against the flag fav Mt Lilydale.
Have many teams improved from last season ?

Travelled to Point Cook on saturday and I am happy to report it took just over an hour from Lilydale to arrive. I'm a bit suprised that they have only registered 1 win for the season, although they have played four of the top five and been competetive in all but the Monash game. We were lucky to get away with the win, which only eventuated in the last ten minutes of the game. They have some terriffic on-ballers and a few 'wise (30+) heads up forward and in defence and I think they will start to climb up the ladder over the remainder of the season as they obviously dont belong 2nd bottom. A club that has 17 junior sides in such an expanding area will thrive and I'd expect them to rise through the divisions rapidly in 5+ years.

Maybe we are over-estimating Mt Lilydale. Of the teams Ive seen play (Nth Brun, BHN, Monash, Sth Morn + PC), I would say PC to be the least impressive. Their midfield were average at best and their defense non-existent, and their forward consists of one decent forward. If Mt Lilydale struggled to put PC away why are we rating them so highly, or did they have half their team out??
Do Chadstone play PC at home? If so that will be there best chance for a win!
I do agree that PC will be a force in future years.

good sides can have bad days - and a good sign of such a side is that they manage to win on these days.

weren't richmond meant to be one of those said "good sides". they came out in the third and looked like world beaters only to capitulate in the last.

on another note. that bozo who masquerades as a twos umpire for centrals should be shot. 4 free kicks (including 25mtr penalties) against supporters. dismal effort by the big bloke.

Come on buddy, bias umpires at RC never. They accused mtl ump last week of being just that but come on don't contribute the ump in any any any way for the end scoeboard result......Waz never would:rolleyes:

Have watched a few Div 4 games this year and i would have to say that the umpires from Richmond, Manningham and Mt Lilydale are on a par as far as woeful umpiring goes. The bloke from richmond is on a power trip he thinks he is a copper for a couple of hours, what he did on the weekend was a disgrace. How long before something serious happens ? surely the players are embaressed or do they think his actions are ok.

I'd be interested to hear what Waz says on the matter as i'm pretty sure he was present when this occurred (all four decisions in the space of around 10 mins). The thing that really irks me though is that two of the comments he took offence to only questioned his decision making and contained no swearing whatsoever.

Umpires like this bloke are a blight on the game. In saying that though, his decisions did not affect the result. The snakes had eley park's measure in the twos.

RC reserves umpire is bad, horrible even, but i didn't see him being biased. in my opinion he has been even to both teams. he is trigger happy on the 25m penalties, he even ran into a bloke and gave a 25m penalty for umpire contact. having said that, he is also happy to turn on RC. i guess the only advantage RC (including supporters) have is the dicipline to not chat back as they know the consequences.

i think this needs to be addressed by the vafa. if supporters can give away penalties then whats to stop another team from slagging the umpires to give thier team a benefit, just wearing plain clothes and appearing to support the opposition.

the end of the day it is d4 reserves, watch AFL and you see shocking umpiring, now think of the distance between the two leagues. sooking about the umpires on the field is disgusting. it ruins the game for everyone.

Tough as the reserves umpy a completely thankless job.

However, the Richmond magoos representitive needs to hang up the whistle. His interpretation of the game is seriously flawed which greatly contributes to his pathetic performances. Unfortunately, these performances are more usual than not.

Interesting time to be discussing boundary and field umpire performances given it is umpire appreciation round this weekend ...

Brian, the ump from RC is an ex Albert Park umpire/player. I think he still does a few games for them as well (not sure about that). He only umpires half our games.

I agree he gives away far too many 25's... even just for asking what the penalty is for! Weird. He's not biased though. He gave 12x25m frees against RC in one quarter against chadstone! All for talking back.

Congrats to EP for a courageous win in the Seniors on Sat. I thought we were going to run over them in the last qtr after our seriously awful first half. But they held on.

Some very interesting results from the weekend.

RC get knocked off their perch (again).

MtL pushed hard by PC which was a good wake up call.

Monash look to be premiership faves now even though they struggled for half vs BHN.

Waz, Brian is an utter digrace! GET RID OF HIM!

RC have progressed leaps and bounds in the last few years. Don't let that fat cheating idiot ruin it for you.

More like 5 free kicks in 20 minutes - including one when his team mate was running into a open goal. i think the umpires were a bit rough to be honest. perhaps the vafa had got wind and told the umpires to pay anything against him. nothing really in any of the incidents. Or maybe this shows that Mount Lilydale should go and play netball if they're going to whinge and cry like menstruating ladies when someone roughs them up a bit. i don't know.

Make up your mind James. One day your slagging Mt Lilydale for not liking to be headbutted, then a few days later your going in to bat for us on a less than expected performance. I'm confused

One of the bigger surprises was the 200 point belting of BHN by Monash in the reserves...

Surely a sign that Monash are getting a bunch of players back from injury etc.

Unless BHN had 15 on the field?

The EP boys must have played well, although reading the scores suggests that they hardly held on... 7 goals v 3 goals in the final term .... appears they ran away with it......:D

It was only 195 points Waz ... We had 22 players.

Monash 2's were very quick and very disciplined.
