Mate..I have no time for players worried about nothing but themselves ...it doesn't stand up at the next level. Has the attributes to be a good player but he wont last at AFL level being selfish.
Tell that to Toby Greene :p

Nah everyone has something they value more than others fair enough you feel that way

Dow the better midfielder and Rayner the better forward. I have Rayner but Dow is closing the gap and LDU might have slipped past both a little

Mate, we're not saying Dow is better than Rayner, we're saying Rayner doesn't fit with the Lions for a number of reasons. I've said many times Rayner is probably the best talent in this years draft, and I do not want him near the Lions (and he probably doesn't want to come north either).

Dow does fit with the Lions.

Respect your opinion, however we agree to disagree. The biggest mistake people make, is that we tend to assume things ,when in actual fact no one knows ,except Raynor. Sure i get Dow is midfield and at this point Raynor is not. What is to say Raynor ,cannot develop his midfield capabilities down the track.the last fitzroy coach believed on elite kicking, pace and skill. My opinion and only my opinion is that Brisbane needs , more elite kicking players , we need pace and x factor,( whilch, i believe is also lacking at the Lions, and you may debate me on this point) Hipwood would be the only one ,I would class at this point with the x factor .Raynor, from what i have seen ,ticks a lot of boxes on what Brisbane needs and currently lacks. If he can do what he does now and replicate that at the lions, then i truly believe the gabba will start to see a resurgence in terms of crowd numbers. So the best and most diplomatic way of responding to what you stated, is that both players are diffrent and satisfy ,different boxes at the lions, but those boxes are what the lions ,(as i see it )desperately need.

I went into Mars on Sunday too, got there early in the 2nd quarter of the Gippy Power vs the Bendigo Pioneers and we think alike re the better players, of course my main interest was in the Rebels boys but I left the matches with Aiden Bonar's game etched indelibly in my mind, hadn't seen him before but WOW he's a seriously talented kid, big strong lad with a real physical presence about him, took some great contested grabs, penetrating kick, even roved one off the pack and slotted a goal. I understand he's already done ACL's but there was little evidence out there yesterday to suggest it's a problem.

I agree re Jordan Johnston too, not one of his best games but the most talented Rebel in this year's draft IMO, showed a bit in the midfield also so not necessarily "just" a clever Medium Forward.

Good to see you noticed Flynn Appleby who I've been talking up all year, a real quiet achiever who's been given some real tough tasks this season on some of the Comps Key Forwards and has contained most of them manfully though giving away size and weight, reminds me a lot of the Crows' Luke Brown.

Another Stingers player Toby Bedford caught my eye too, serious set of wheels, evasive, really takes the game on, definitely something there...is he eligible for this draft or is he next year??

Yep I want to see more of Bonar he looks a top 30 prospect from that game.

I liked Johnston's game because he genuinely worked hard in the middle and was matched up against guys like Clark and LDU and more than held his own.

Appelby I noticed was on a few clubs radars so I made sure to watch him closely, he destroyed D'Arcy. Shut him down and also provided good drive from defence.

Bedford is next year, has some moves and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. Didn't have a 4 quarter game but he had plenty of highlights.

If you did a top 20 from the last 2 drafts plus this draft who would you pick? AFL form not considered for the previous drafted players.

Trying to get a gauge on the top end talent coming into the system.

Whens the update coming mate?
Sometime during the week, will be busy sorting out my notes from the weekend and have a few other things to sort out aswell. My number 1 is now extremely open, will be hard to displace Fogarty but Dow, Rayner and Stephenson are hot on his heels. LDU will go to 5th but still in that mix if he can improve his defensive game during the finals

I won't be able to do it this week, I've got too much on but I'll try to get one made up

I know last year Cal Twomey as asked to do a combined top 10 from the 2015 & 2016 draftees. From memory McCluggage as the only 2016 draftee in the top 5 at 4th or 5th, the other 2016 draftees went at the back end of the top 10.

Many people talk of this years top talent being slightly below 2016's top talent, with the exception of Rayner. Rayner might be the only 2017 kid to crack the top 5.

I would take Taranto and SPS ahead of this years top mids. I didn't rate McCluggage as high as high had concerns about his long term projection in the AFL. I'd definitely take the first 4 picks from the 2015 draft ahead of every kid in the 2016 AFL draft and 2017 AFL draft class.

1. Weitering
2. Schache
3. Mills
4. Oliver
5. McGrath
6. Taranto
7. Rayner
8. SPS
9. McCluggage
10. Ainsworth
11. Parish
12. ???

Rayner comes in 7th because I'm not sure if he'll ever develop enough of a tank to play midfield. He might only ever be an elite mid sized forward.

DPS out of LDU/Cerra/Coffield/Constable who do you project being the best at AFL level next year and who will be a slower burn and more of a project?
All 4 i feel will debut for their clubs in their first year. It all depends on what clubs take them and what roles they will be expected to play. LDU would be the most ready with his size and ability to go forward would make it easy for a club to just slot him in. Coffield could slot at any club at half back, he may need to spend a few weeks at VFL level to find his feet but i feel he would cement a spot later in the year. Adam Cerra with his injury history may not be rushed into playing AFL footy although his size and ability to play all over the ground would certainly help him. Constable id have the least likely purely on his endurance and if he was to play he would play half back i doubt he plays midfield time in his first year at AFL level. Rayner is another who i doubt will spend any time in the midfield in year 1.

All of these players could have an impact straight away but that all depends on how the clubs want to use them. Will Brodie for example had the size to play early but the club didnt want to push him after his niggles last year.

Good question and answer.

What about Paddy Dow?

Again will depend on what club he goes to and what kind of midfield depth they have. Dow is the lightest of the lot so he may get pushed around by the bigger mids. He could easily line up on a wing similar to Darcy Parish in his first year. Dow for me is a slightly taller and quicker version of Parish so I'd expect a similar start to Dow's career.
