The ABC reports that while AFLW's first season was such a monumental success, such a breakout smash hit, it's only natural to be apprehensive about the sequel. In many ways, it's a more important year than last. Even within the first season, gigantic crowds and fevered excitement dissipated somewhat as the season drew on.

AFL.com.au notes that the prize at stake in the NAB AFLW is more than a cup; it's the hearts and minds of the code's newest fan base – five to 12-year-old girls.

And that's why so many are keen to breath in the fresh AFLW air.

KEY forwards Darcy Vescio and Jasmine Garner will go head-to-head at Ikon Park on Friday and by seasons’ end could be battling it out for the league’s goalkicking gong.

Adelaide

The Crows have added five new players to their premiership-winning team for Saturday night’s AFLW season-opener at Norwood Oval.

New Crow Rheanne Lugg will appreciate the AFLW more than most after taking an unconventional path to get there. Lugg, 27, had played senior football at the highest level that existed before the national women’s league began last year – alongside Crows co-captain Chelsea Randall at Swan Districts and representing her state – but when the Crows began their premiership campaign last year Lugg was in the wilderness. Literally.

Carlton

Seven players will make their Carlton debut under lights on Friday night, with new recruits Tayla Harris and Nicola Stevens also set to don the navy blue for the first time

Carlton has declared its supercharged AFLW list primed for premiership glory ahead of a hotly anticipated season-opening rematch against Collingwood. Coach Damien Keeping hopes the spectacle of AFLW grows in 2018 — just not at the expense of the Blues winning games.

EXPLOSIVE midfielder Maddison Gay is all too familiar with professional sports, with a background in elite netball holding her in great stead for her transition to the footy field. New to football, the 21-year-old is working tirelessly to develop her game.

Collingwood

Five players will make their debuts for the Magpies on Friday evening. While it’s a stark contrast to a whole team of debutants taking the field in last year’s clash, the nerves will clearly be present for Chloe Molloy, Jaimee Lambert, Iilish Ross, Sarah Dargan and Eliza Hynes.

Fremantle

Up to six players could make the NAB AFL Women’s debut and another their Freo Dockers debut as Fremantle takes on the Western Bulldogs on Sunday at VU Whitten Oval.

Greater Western Sydney

Seven GIANTS will be making their AFL Women's debuts when the ball goes up at 5:05pm in the second game of the second AFLW season.

Last year GWS won the AFLW wooden spoon after winning only one game but some smart recruiting and team development has them viewed now as a team on the rise.
