Very happy with this. Geelong needs to continue to innovate, and it shows they’re smart enough to realise that the footy brain and coaching genes are not restricted to the Y chromosome. Daisy always gives the most insightful analysis on the channel 7 commentary, and I like the way she plays, so I’m keen to see how she’ll develop as a coach at our club.

Nine coaches across the league will be making use of this initiative

The full list of successful applicants includes Chelsea Randall (Adelaide Crows), Emma Zielke (Brisbane Lions), Chloe McMillan (Collingwood), Natalie Wood (Essendon), Daisy Pearce (Geelong), Alicia Eva (GWS), Bec Goddard (Hawthorn) and Erin Phillips (Port Adelaide), with North Melbourne’s coaching aspirant still to be announced.

Daisy is coming to the Cattery on a 2-year coaching development program. I wish her well and hope she enjoys her time here. It was announced last year that the Cats had approached her.

Very pleased to hear this. Geelong always does best when it innovates and Daisy is obviously a person who loves the game, is highly knowledgeable and also - importantly - appears to have impeccable character. Great that the club recognizes these qualities and is prepared to take a punt on them instead of being mired in irrelevant prejudices about gender. Very pleased also to see that the fan base on this board is generally in favour.

Also, Daisy is a bloody good commentator. So is Kelly whatsername. I've followed football since the early 80s and the game is being strongly regenerated by the involvement of women in all dimensions. May it continue.

I agree. This "nails on a chalkboard" comment (no disrespect intended to the fellow Catter above) often gets trotted out against female commentators but I'd rather them be themselves rather than apply affectation in response to feedback. I reckon the shit that gets flung at Underwood is pretty harsh and I think she's underrated. I'd rather listen to Underwood over BT, Brayshaw (still can't forgive him for "Cat supporters stand up to your full height" bollocks), Darcy, Lane, or Brereton.

Once again the the AFL is pushing a social agender.

AFLW boss Nicole Livingstone said the program is the first “major step” towards the league’s goal to have 50 per cent of the competition’s senior coaching roles held by women by 2030.

Can't we just have best person for the job appointments and drop quotes.I have no problem with the AFL providing the pathway for women to enter into the coaching field, however the statement from Nicole rubs me up the wrong way.

It is about best person for the job, and the target is for women to be 50% of the best people, which is a rather modest target for a women's* competition.

Whether the target is achieved (which is not a given, hence it's clearly not a quota) will be a key factor in determining the value and effectiveness of the pathways being put in place.

*I'm sure easily riled people have misinterpreted it to mean 50% of the men's competition, though page 18 of the Women's Football Vision 2021-2030 document is what Nicole Livingstone is referencing.

I don't find her voice annoying. Not sure where people get that from.

Astute appointment , love the way we are prepared to innovate on and off the field.

I loved her comment in the 3rd 1/4 of the GF - " look at them , 53 points up and they are still dog hungry"

That comment is in regards to AFLW.

1/ daisy isn’t free. The AFL cover $50k
2/ I don’t know how daisy does it.
She has twins.
She was an AFLW captain.
Has a full time job.
And she just finished the level 3 coaches course (which isn’t easy)

For balance, Shaun Grigg only just finished that course. He did it with daisy.

It doesn’t sound like she will be there for a while. She wants to get herself refreshed and sorted and go hard.
