Pretty paper thin argument. You're:

1. Not giving Thomas any credit. Ok Collingwood are a good side and have a great midfield. Just because this is the case doesn't automatically mean Thomas is turned into a robot and plays super football. Give Thomas some credit.

2. Using hypotheticals to enchance your argument. If Boak played for Collingwood Boak would be better. Who knows? We're talking facts and the fact here is that Thomas has shown more than Boak with more competition.

I think Thomas is a great player, but he has the freedom to run free and be creative as he has great midfield support.

If you want to talk facts, the only facts I have seen in this thread are below, which points to Boak being a better player:

Inside 50s Per Game: Boak 4.7 Thomas 3.5
Goal Assists Per Game: Boak 0.6 Thomas 0.5
Goals Contributed Per Game: Boak 1.3 Thomas 1.2
Goals Per Game: Boak 0.6 Thomas 0.7
Tackles Per Game: Boak 6.1 Thomas 3.5

Hahah. Even if Boak played for Collingwood & Thomas played for Port, Thomas would still be getting more votes. Thomas has shown what he can do in a high quality midfield - why hasn't Boak shown just as much in one of the worst midfields in the AFL?

2010 Brownlow
Travis Boak 16 votes
Dale Thomas 4 votes

....but, but, but Thomas has so many quality players around him taking votes off him. Well in direct answer to the question you posed buddy, you can't have it both ways.

Clearly Boak as a midfielder; but I'd take Thomas (just).
Midfield's not everything.
Shock horror!

thomas plays primarily as a midfielder now

that was my reasoning in taking boak, as i think he is a better mid

is there a problem with that?

Boak.

Thomas can lift the team with his flashy play but i'd take the more solid contributor in Boak...more consistent and is the type of player you can base a midfield around.

Thomas is more icing than cake. That said, still a very good player based on 2010 form.

Complete rubbish. Anyone who doesn't consider Thomas consistent and flashy is moronic to be honest.

There is plenty of justification for Boak without stupid bigfooty myths.

I think there's going to be some embarrassed people in this thread by the end of the year.

And I think both are very good players who will both improve further by the rest of this year, and that the poll results accurately reflect that.

Surprised no-ones pulled out the Mike Sheehan ratings where he has Thomas at 20 and Boak at 40. Considering Mike hadn't even heard of Boak until last year's Brownlow, it's not a bad effort from Trav, although Mike might have said Travis Cloke and the copy boy got it mixed up.

Thomas was better in 2010, lol. How can you even try and argue that he wasn't?

That said Boak is a better player and he'll prove it this year.

While Boak's been solid this year, Thomas has gone to another level.

Edit: For future reference, at the time of bumping, this poll was Thomas 94 to Boak 92. Wouldn't expect these two to stay level pegging.

Poor Boak has the disadvantage of playing in a team that has no outside game, most of the time their is pretty much no ball movement is horrible to watch.
