Daisy, as good as his year has been, is in a sub standard team, getting belted by record margins. He is not the whipping boy, but he is not the future.

Daisy is a poor AFL player by AFL standards. Fact is a fact.

But i expect him to get another contract and i support him getting another year. I think he is terrific for bubbliness around the playing group for the 300 odd days they are together. Important in a footy club. I also think he is a main conduit between the Coach and the youngstars in explaining etc etc around the place.

I can find others to delist before Daisy when his whole package is in the equation.

We have a ways to go yet.

Been wanting to use ‘blithe’ for many, many years.

So here it is.

Makes your tongue sit upstairs when you do the th bit.

Been pretty much the opposite for mine - those "WTF Daisy?!" moments have been fewer and less regular this year than previously. Seems to me like he's been doing his job and generally done it well. While he's doing that, there's no reason to push him out the door just yet.

I think there's a real danger for the mindset of Carlton fans that when this turd season is done with and we get a shot of adrenaline after trade and draft periods, that we'll expect the team to come on in leaps and bounds just by virtue of another few months of time having passed. We're still in the infancy of our climb up to the top again. We've only just finished assembling the framework of our future success. There's a lot of work left to be done and players like Thomas need to be kept around to see that work through while they are still producing the goods.
For mine, he does a good thing, then he screws up badly, over and over again. He kicks a goal, then turns the ball over in the back half of the ground. He pulls of a spectacular bit of play, earning the ball under heaps of pressure, then turns it over with a dinky banana because he refuses to use his left.

He's not alone, and he's the next rung up from Lamb, but his value is in what he does between matches. I will feel vastly better about him when he's no longer a must select player, and after he's played 100 games. If we have to pick him because we're bereft of options, so be it; if we pick him cause he's earned it, so be it. I just hope that, over the next year or so, he is surpassed and we find another option to do what he does for us, one who is less subject to being a zero sum player.

Yeah that's about how I view it. He's done well to turn his Carlton time around from disaster into contributor. Still Clanger prone and will be replaced by youth before long. I like what he brings from an onfield instruction sense, but the good sides have superceded his presence already.

I’m happy for him to have another year

I think we can find a few others that offer less than Dale.

Still has the odd brain fades but still capable and has experience to pass onto the youth

Question is....where does he play next year because we have at least 2-3 players coming back into defence
I can picture it now. Daisy on one HFF & Fasolo on the other.

Daisy is certainly one of the more divisive members of our team. He has pretty clear positives and negatives, and which things you value more or find more important at a given time probably indicates where you land on Daisy.

Where I land is that he frustrates me.

The good:
He tries hard - yes.
He has a bonafide AFL skillset - albeit not what they once were - something many guys on the list do not.
He's done the preseasons and still has the speed, fitness to compete on the AFL field.
He's a great personality - and from all reports and evidence, off-field, a great bloke too.
He brings experience to a team that needs more of it.
He was realistic about his level of play in renegotiating his contract.
He has genuine enthusiasm for footy.

The bad:
He gets distracted and does some wildly undisciplined stuff (cheap frees off the ball, etc).
He attempts high-risk, low-chance-for-success plays regularly - plays like a millionaire at times.
His disposal skills are no longer good.
(Obviously) his speed, fitness and strength are not what they once were.
He has a slew of bad habits - not taking the first option, jumping up into tackles (losing all momentum), leaping into contests whilst ducking with no real plan to impact it, kicking high, slow passes that get chopped off. I will not forgive a no-look handball he gave in a game this year to the opposition. That was BS.

What frustrates me is most of the "bad" stuff in my opinion are things he probably could do something about if he wanted to. But he seems like a guy who has had a successful career, knows he's already played his best footy, made his money, might go into the media, and still enjoys larking about and having a good game of footy. There's some positives about that - it's good to show the po-faced youngsters that you can still enjoy the game, but at the same time it's also not really showing them how to play the percentages and improve their game. And it's not setting standards - as a senior player you cannot go off at youngsters for a lousy kick or free against when you did the exact same thing moments ago.

My ideal scenario is someone pulls Daisy into a room, explains his value to the team, and tells him to STOP )@*&$)(*#& AROUND out there. But I can't believe that hasn't happened, so have to assume he cannot and will not stop with "the bad". Hence we're divided. Hence I'm divided. I think he gets another contract because there isn't anyone demanding his spot, yet, but geez he's painful to watch sometimes.

Hard to love a player that reminds of how he got to us.
Hard to love that long haired wiry winger the woods picked up.
And yet.....
The passion for football shines in this incarnation of Dale Thomas
The determination to master his body and get through injuries, A very long haul.
He is a blue blood now for sure.
Given all he had to us.
So often we wanted more and took the anger at our plight out on him.
Yeah you got to love him.

Suggesting we shouldn't have Rowe, Simpson and Thomas around next ear is getting ahead of where we are. we need those players on our list. Not until they can't get a game. Thomas is still best 22 next year I would think.

Not really, most people didn’t have Thomas in best 22 by the end of the year... most didn’t have Rowe in best 22 at all... injuries changed all that. I can live with Thomas getting another contract as long as he isn’t best 22 any longer. Rowe should be delisted.

I would have thought one of Daisy and Simpson had to go. Looks like they both will stay..

Considering ASOS and Rowe probably have their papers stamped as well as a couple of mature names in O'Shea getting the flick I think Daisy and Simmo stay to keep some experience around another year.

They can be and , should all be, replaced in the best 22 IMO.

We're not good enough yet.

We don't have anywhere near the depth yet to delist Rowe.

Anyone thinking players who have played most games this season should be delisted are nuts.

The likelihood of another season with the same or similar injuries is likely.

To replace those three? Yeah we are.
