I still cannot believe we lost to Essendon.

Essendon caught us while we were still underdone. Our NAB Cup effort this year demonstrated that we were not as advanced in our preparation as Essendon, or Richmond for that matter, were come Round 1 of the home & away season. I am pretty confident we will account for Essendon next time we play them.

What a great game by Dale Thomas.

Kicks: 8
H/Balls: 1
Marks: 3
Goals: 1
Behinds: 2

This guy is the AFL's number #1 down hill skier. Absolute front runner, and couldn't get a hard ball get if his life depended on it.

For anyone to compare him to Murphy is ridiculous.
No Murphy, but I'd love to have a Dale Thomas on our list.

Now Courtney Johns - why the ____ is he still on an AFL list?

Yeah I think it is safe to say that Murphy and Thomas are no longer at a similar enough level of ability to be compared.

Surely people must see that Murphy is better than Thomas. I can't believe people can think otherwise.

Thomas continually goes missing in games, and really does struggle to rack up the posessions, and today was no different. What keeps him in that team is that with the kicks he usually gets, one or two of them usually go through for goals.

He was hopeless today, and the quicker the footballing community wakes up to the fact that he is nothng more than a flashy HFF, the better the world will be.

Probably the worst thing i have ever read. Funny that with all these duds we still made a prelimanary final last year while the blues finished a respectable 15th.

Carlton supporters should not be making jokes about who Collingwood pick up in the draft. Our draftees no matter how low they are selected in the draft seem to come in and make an impact from game 1, whilst you guys are only on the rise due to getting cheap #1 picks by purposely losing games and getting cheap trades because of your poor placing on the ladder. Take out Kruezer, Murphy, Judd and Stevens and the Blues would be in a sorry state
now thats just a silly sad thing to say
take out youre four best and how would youre team fair i ask?;)

But he is so so so much better than Murphy  thats what i'm hearing!!

I must say, living in europe and looking up the stats on the game, i had a very big chuckle when i seen 9 touches, 6 uncontested, 1 clanger, and 67% effectiveness against his name!!

He was hopeless today mate. Had no influence over the game, and when the heat was really on, which was in the 1st qtr, Thomas had 1 handpass, and that was only due to the ball landing in his lap from a marking contest.

If the last few weeks have proved anything, it has shown that he will be just an ordinary player, with a pea-heart to boot.

I actually laughed when he was having a push and shove with Reimers (IIRC) in a show of strength.

he has had 3 poor games in a row thomas. he looks flashy when has the pill but he can't find it enough at the moment.

HBF, I really rate and respect you as a poster, however, reading some of your posts here you clearly have a passionate 'hate' for Thomas.

Yes he was ordinary today.

AFL's #1 downhill skier? Clearly on his way to stardom.

Can't win a hard-ball? Stats and actions show otherwise and is definitely not a pea-heart.

Different players, Thomas with 15 touches can be just as damaging as Murphy with 20+.

A better comparison would be Murphy vs. Pendlebury.
You seem to enjoy stats.

20 kicks
13 handballs
11 marks
7 tackles
7 clearances
2 behinds
82% efficiency
Game ranking: 1 on the 'big stage' - unlucky not to win medal too.

Just as Mark Robinson's 'before and after' comparison, hindsight will show Pendlebury will be the best player out of that draft.

What I have admitted is the comparison is more or less stupid-particularly after a poor showing from Thomas. Opinions will vary on a week-to-week basis, just as the poster who started this thread did after Thomas played a solid game vs. Richmond.

Also considering how little time Thomas spends on ball at the minute, it would be alot better to compare Murphy to Pendlebury.

Anyway, whatever helps you sleep at night. Collingwood supporters aren't going to lose sleep and I'm sure both clubs are pretty happy with the outcome of that draft- despite Kennedy being nowhere near a top 5 talent.

Pendlebury has a good game on the invisible man, can't believe how easily he handled the hard tag

http://finalsiren.com/PlayerCompare.asp?SeasonID=&SelectedPlayers=1620,1656,&Compare=Go

Check those stats out. Murphy in front including stats for season he had the best of the best taggers on him. When Pendlebury is paid that respect by opposition coaches come see us again.

Yes, i used to respect your posts, too. But your hate is blinding you. here A kid has a couple of bad games and this is what you produce. Calling him a Pea-heart? Get a grip.
Did Dale cut your lunch one night?

u collingwood blokes wouldnt hav a clue. figure this... why does murphy have almost as many goals as thomas when he plays in the middle and thomas is a HFF? Not realy the hallmark of the great HFF you pump him up to be.

It's very easy to look good on a HFF in a reasonably good team, I mean my God.... Houlihan was touted as the next big thing playing on that positon in the early part of this decade!!!

It's very hard for Murphy to look great in an outfit that sports a number of quality mids. Pushing last year aside (where Murphy got a heavy tag every game) Murphs has had a far better career than Daisy the cow. Just in the first 5 games this year alone he has put the case to bed!

PS. FWIW, Murphs and Pendlebury is a far better comparison. Probably even atm imo

Oh come on please. We had that many Collingwood posters come in here and say that Dale Thomas was this, and Dale Thomas was that. Fact of the matter is that Dale Thomas is over-rated by Collingwood supporters based on the fact that he can pull a goal out of his backside every now and again.

He goes missing when the whips are cracking, and as I said, couldn't get a hard ball if his life depended on it.

And you have every right to criticise him if you see fit... i just felt the vitriol was a little over the top.
To suggest he is pea-hearted is quite plainly wrong, too. He may be inconsistent at the moment but he certainly does not mind putting his body on the line.
