No chance. If you had signed Gortat, then maybe. As it stands right now you dont have a big enough frontcourt presence to beat LA or Orlando.

In principle, I probably agree (although I think big men are more valuable defending penetrating from guards/swings than stopping big guys).

But Kidd leading the break with Marion, Howard and Terry running the wings and Dirk trailing for the 3 is pretty good on one side of the ball. I think Marion will solve a lot of problems for us, and he really loves it in Dallas so far. He is very enthused.

Still, if we can snare Camby or someone similar by the deadline, things will be interesting :)

Camby could be a good option, I dont think he will last much longer in Clipper-land. Who would you offload for him?

I give you 0% chance of containing those big men. Gasol + Bynum vs Dirk + Gooden? Absolutely no chance.

And i am sure Tim Thomas can lend a hand as well
For some reason some stats show he is actually a very good post defender.

Damp/Gooden/Dirk/MARION/Humphries vs Gasol/Bynum/Odom.

We have a lot of fouls to throw at them and who know's if Bynum will be fit if we meet them in the playoffs.

The swing match-ups look tasty aswell: Marion/Howard vs Bryant/Artest

Dont count on Hump, the guy is a spud. Gooden is a defensive sieve, there is no way he can contain Bynum. Point taken about his health, but you cant speculate on those things till it happens.

Marion/Artest is a good matchup, but I dont think Howard can contain Bryant. Odom is still the wildcard, you cant matchup on him.

But none of this really matters, the Spurs will be coming out of the West this year.

I agree on Gooden.

Hump looks really good in the limited minutes.

I'd expect that Dampier would play in place of Gooden against the Lakers and get either Bynum/Gasol, and he is still a top notch post defender.

Marion will check Bryant, I'd think and hope.

And you're right we can't match up on Odom, unless we switch Marion on to him

Fair enough about Damps, he is a much better defender than Gooden. Hump is an interesting one. He always does well in PS, but never really produces in the regular season. He cleans boards though, so is a good counter for Dirk - but they are both natural 4s, so that creates matchup problems for whoever slides to the 5. He is too undersized to stay on the court for long.

The Mavericks will soon have to decide on a 15th man.

Nathan Jawai and Jake Voskuhl are the team's options, with Shawne Williams, a remote possibility, banished from the team.

Jawai's contract, worth more than $700,000, is guaranteed, while Voskuhl's is not.

"Decisions on roster spots will be based on everything -- from contract status to how guys are playing," coach Rich Carlisle told the Dallas Morning News. "And any assumption that someone without a guaranteed contract would be precluded from making the team would be inaccurate."

Well it was good while it lasted Nathan
