Damien Martyn - Best Run Out Ever???

What could have possibly been better - the batsmen is on 99, the fielding team is in dire straits, picks up the ball facing the wrong way, pivots on one knee and hits the stumps. About the only thing that would've made it better was if he only had one stump to aim at??? Was that the best run out you've ever seen, i would say its the best i've seen.

Three others that stick in my memory are Ricky Pontings back flick a couple of years ago in a one dayer, and Glenn McGrath picking up the ball of his bowling, turning and hitting in similar style to Martyn, and Greg Blewett (i think) hitting the stumps from the boundary at Adeladie Oval (or the Gabba, can't exactly remember)

If your talking about the Donald one, i agree it was good because of the fact it one us the game, but i'm more talking spectacular run outs.

The run out in the world cup semi a few years ago would have to be the most memorable, perhaps not the best

um hello, Jonty Rhodes' head first run out in the early 90's is claerly the best ever. Martyns was nothing special.

I agree that Damien Martyn's piece of fielding was superb, but I would like to give full credit to the whole team for building up the pressure on Neil McKenzie while he was in the 90's. Shane Warne and Jason Gillespie bowled some great overs, and kept McKenzie stuck in the 90's for long enough to make him want to run when there really wasn't one there.

So, although the run out was special, I was more impressed how hard the Aussies made it for Neil McKenzie to get his century, by building up the pressure and creating a situation.

Steve Waugh did a run out against the Windies in a one day international many years ago where he was fielding behind square

He dived stopped the ball and threw down the stumps and he ran out both players trying to make it back to the samed end but they were both out of their ground

I think it was the late great Malcolm Marshall and Artherton from memory - so it was a while ago!

Martyn needed to do something, seeing his batting was well below par for this game. It was a pity because the first test knock was so great.

It was certainly a vital turning point as it turned out.
