seriously!
That shot is classic Marto - no follow through required.
Used to do that a lot at the WACA with the extra pace, and the carpet like outfield.

Great innings that was. Then proceeded to drop a sitter in the field.I was there when he hit 96 in a T20 against South Africa. It was Mickey Mouse cricket, but a good memory nonetheless.
He was my favourite player after Steve Waugh retired.
Martyn was the best batsman in the world in 2004. That partnership with Gillespie in the second test against India won us the series. He was superb against Pakistan in the 2004-05 summer with hundreds at the WACA and MCG too.

He was scape-goated in a horrific way after the 2005 Ashes. When you consider how much mediocrity the current selectors have copped from Ponting, it really was a diabolical decision. I went to the Gabba to see him hit 60 odd in the Shield and then 60 odd again in the ING match that summer. He was superb even though his heart didn't seem in it. Our best number four since Greg Chappell in my opinion.

And anyone who is called 'the biggest w@nker on the planet' by Hayden is alright by me.
Spot on. Haydos = Class A Moo, well known. My ex-gf used to work in catering at the WACA and Haydos wasn't afraid to drop c-bombs on a regular basis when he was having a temper tantrum. i think it was the same game when he smashed a mirror. Classy guy. Its no wonder you hear jack-shit from him these days.
Haven't you heard, he's a leisuretainment superstar!
He copped a couple of stinking decisions in that ashes series as well.
He was brutalised by the Umps in that tour; then scape-goated.
People say the decision referral system doesn't help players, but Martyn's career was definately shortened by getting 3-4 dodgy LBWs within a short space of time.
That's Matthew Hayden AM thank you very much.
Im going a bit against the grain here, but always hated him. Dont get me wrong one of the "prettiest" batsmen weve had.
But I guess i was always more a Mark and Steve Waugh guy. And in a way he kind of took their spots. When Martyn finally did get a permanant top 6 spot i thought he was too old to of cracked the team and we shouldve looked at younger guys who'd still be playing today.

Cool story bro. I stand by it.
I never said he wasnt any good. Just simply thought other blokes shouldve been picked when he did
Such as?
Well at the time when he was selected Hussey and Hodge are both a few years younger and were putting up massive scores.

That's the first class stats for the summer prior the 2001 Ashes (when Marto got back in the test team). Hussey had a dog average year, although I'll give you that Hodge scored well. You can't look at Martyn's stats at that time though and say he didn't deserve to be picked. He was scoring well in Shield cricket and was performing highly in the Australian One Day Team.
30 years old, compared to 27 for Hodge and 26 for Hussey.
Katich and Love also have about 3 years on Martyn as well.
Martyn was scoring a heap of runs. But like Hodge through our recent dog years, they had to look further forward then that.
Martyn Langer Hayden Gilchrist all were within 1 year of each other at that time. Thats 4 of your top 7.
