It pains me to say this but I just get the feeling the great D Oliver is struggling a touch at the moment. He seems very quiet thus far, but hopefully he turns his fortunes around. I notice he wasn't in the top ten jocks in the HUN either, so the stats are there to say he isn't booting home as many winners as he would like. C'mon Ollie show us the real D Oliver. Does anyone else agree or am I being a tad harsh??:thumbsu:

He absolutely bossed it earlier in the year, just remember all the big ones are coming up, doesn't matter if you go ordinary in the lead ups if you win two or three of the majors we'll be on here praising him for weeks!

Rode Emerald Jack to a great win in the Cranbourne Cup :).

Gave Danevade a good run today.

But yeh, I agree, somewhat struggling.

Very hard to get going when you get suspended every few weeks.
Must have missed plenty of winners by being on the sidelines over the last few weeks.
Gotta wonder if his recent record will effect his riding over the next month.

Hope not,the Carnival needs Ollie

He rode a cracking race the day after Caulfield Guineas Day to split the field, so he's not done with just yet.

I think the difference between his great rides and his poor ones is too great. Sometime's he will have a stroke of brilliance, even if he doesn't eventually win, and other times he makes too many poor choices. Getting suspended all the time kills him as well...

There's definitely an upside to his poor form... his rides usually start under the odds so you can get better value on the horses he's not riding!

The champ could bounce back in a big way tomorrow, being on board some top chances, ie Royal Asscher, Marching, Dracs Back and Haradasun. Good luck, Ollie

If only he had ridden well in the main race ;)
not much he could do and did rate him well.
It was sit 3 wide and have no chance or lead and give it some hope.
I think he made a huge mistake in jumping off El in the first place, he was the best WFA horse in Australia and he choose a very over-rated horse.

I have only just watched the replay again - I thought he had the chance to sit one out one back going past the post the first time but Newitt didn't give him a look in.

My first thought was that he rode the first half of the race great and the second half ordinarily.

I thought going to the front was an inspired decision and he got some very cheap sectionals. However the horse has very little sprint so surely the logical thing to do was get going early? It looked to me like he fell asleep at the wheel somewhere around the 600 and 800 and tried to turn it into a sit-sprint affair. Next thing you know Wonderful World was up on his quarter and it was all over.

Having said that I'm not sure he is really going that well at present. Would be surprised if they perservered with the campaign from here.
