Dan, if you truly believe that the home and away series gives the fairest indication of the best team in the comp each year then even you must acknowledge that Essendon is only the 3rd most successful club in the VFL / AFL. Cheers.

Exactly right, but only until the end of this year.

Actually, if you go by total percentage wins it's Carlton on 62%, Collingwood on 61% and Essendon on 59% (all matches included over 100 years)

It all depends on how you want to measure success. You can make a valid case for each of those three clubs
