Former Richmond footballer Daniel Connors has been charged with firearm and drug offences.
Detectives from the anti-organised crime Echo taskforce charged Connors this week as part of a wider investigation.
The gifted 34-year-old played for the Tigers between 2007 and 2012 before being sacked over off-field issues.
Connors appeared in the dock at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning, flanked by custody officers.
His court appearance came a day after he was charged with possess cocaine, possess a drug of dependence, possess a prohibited weapon without exemption, negligently deal with proceeds of crime, fail to comply with directions and driving unlicensed.
Specifics of the allegations against him were not aired in court.
He did not say anything during the brief administrative hearing, with his lawyer telling the court there would be no application for bail made at this stage.
Connors was remanded to return to court for a committal case conference on March 31.
Connors was a raking left-foot kick with tremendous promise of a long AFL career.

But he played nowhere near the number of games expected because of a combination of ill-discipline and a lack of professionalism.
Connors was dogged by persistent rumours about his off-field activities.
His sacking was said to have happened to protect Connors’ good friend Dustin Martin, amid concerns he would end up in trouble because of the association.
Martin is now a three time premiership player, a triple Norm Smith Medallist and a Brownlow Medallist.

Just read that the firearms offence was shooting out of a car. No Wonder no bail

Might be an urban myth but apprently the only weapon you're allowed to discharge from inside a car is a harpoon. Maybe he was shooting at a whale 😀

Could have been driving along Point Nepean Rd at Rye.... seen a few whales making their way off the beach....

WoW,RR,used to deal BJ to him regurarly in the private saloons in the big house on southbank,late 90's - early 2000's,
hed start 5k x 1 box per hand and bump it up to 15k a hand (3 boxes x 5k) when on a lucky streak,hed play for 3-4 hrs straight and not even blink,let alone say a word,enjoyed his whiskey

Hate to back media, but tbf pretty reasonable to mention Dusty in this - here's the full quote:

Fair enough to mention this reasonable as they are mates, and Dusty and Dan were sanctioned for taking sleeping tablets and missing training - Dusty suspended, Dan shown the door.

*ing hate it when media drag big names in for no reason other than clicks, but don't think it's the case here.

Connors was a bad influence of Dusty when he was young and the tigers knew this and that's a main reason he got the boot plus his constant lack of decipline by getting drunk all the time and partying way too much.
