After having to continually read your posts that crap on about how many supporters Essendon have....their passion, their 'electrifying' noise, their knowledge of the game, they loyalty and most of all their non-bandwagoning tendencies................

i'd like to ask you this:

Why were they so non existent (not in numbers) last night. Before the game it seemed to me that there was heaps more Essendon supporters at the game than Carlton supporters, and most of them giving me crap for having the audacity to turn up to an Essendon training run.

There were quite a lot more bomber supporters there last night - but they make so little noise and have so little passion it is quite unbelievable. Its like they are bored with winning or something. Even when Essendon got three goals in front both those times they were inaudible - but the Blues fans...those bandwagoners you say Dan....were so much louder the whole night long (not just last quarter) - they really got the team across the line they were that loud.

If you were there Dan - you can't deny that they were ordinary last night - Sure they turned up in numbers - but they didn't know how to support their team when the chips were down.

Did you notice this Dan??

Like me, you would have ben to many Ess-Carl games, and presumably you would have noticed the big differecne between Essendon and Carlton supporters. Essendon, generally speaking are louder and more parochial than their Carlton counterparts.

I didn't notive any difference myself in the AFL members, but if you noticed this, it could be due to the fact that it was a Carlton home game (their memebrs have priviliges at home games), the fact that Essendon only kicked 11 goals, or the fact that Carlton - as underdogs - received a more emotional pull from their supporters, simply due to the underdog factor. I know when we have been underdogs in the past, the crowd seems to lift to will the Bombers over the line.

From where you were sitting this may have happened for Carlton last night. Imagine if the roles were reverse though, and how exciting it would be for us Bomber fans to have a win such as the one you did.

My section was predominantly pro-Carlton. The few red and black around me people were for the most part, very quiet. I don't know if they were afraid to make too much noise in the presence of being outnumbered or what.

It is upsetting to join in with the "Ess-En-Don" chant and have supporters of your own club looking at you like you're an idiot. I think the stereotype was true for them...they only seemed interested in Lloyd's arse.

I suppose that most of our contigent was too jaw-droppingly stunned at the play on the field that they didn't even think of cheering.

I listened to about half of the game on radio, and there was hardly a peep audible when Essendon kicked a goal. Always had to wait for the commentator to confirm the goal had been kicked.
With Carlton goals, the reaction was immediate and it was loud.
I don't know if that is always the case, but it semed like it last night.

LOL@Stealth Bomber.

The strange thing was that the Bombers had the ascendancy until half way through the last quarter. That only explains half a quarter of being stunned. Unless of course the Bomber fans were stunned that they were not annihilating the Blues as is their birthright!!!!

I can asure you there was very little difference between the support, with perhaps a small edge to Essendon. As I stated above, the primary reason for the passion of the Carlton fans was because of the great, underdog win that they were able to pull off. As the match wore on, and the Blues fans realised they were a chance, they really tried to will their team over the line. If the situation was reveresd, you would have seen the same with Essendon. Carlton fans had a "nothnig to lose" mentality, while us Bomber fans had an "everything to lose" mentality.

Certainly when Lloyd put us 17 points up in the last quarter, there was far more noise from the Bombers fans that any of the 8 Carlton goals to that point in time.

u serious?

Essendon supporters were few and far between around M1-M8 in the southern stand. Carlton supporters much louder and more passionate, and not much of a roar when Lloyd kicked that goal either that you mention.

I have a feeling you're the type of guy says whatever suits at the time and says it with such convistion that it sounds like the truth. Are you a car salesman by the way? Or do you just convince yourself that half these things you say are actually true!

You idiot

M1-M8 is the bottom level of the Southern Stand, which is where all th Carlton members were sitting (remember it was a Carlton home game). Of course there are going to be more Carlton people in this area.

I remember Round 5 last year, when we beat Carlton easily on a Saturday afternoon in front of 66,000. Fair dinkum it sounded like 60,000 of those fans were Bombers fans that day.

What about the prelim last year? The quantty and noise of Essendon was far more than Carlton.

That's my point Dan. Essendon had control of both those matches....but on Thursday night, everyone could tell the bombers had a fight on their hands on your 'supporters' responded even worse than your players did. I'd say that every single Carlton goal was louder than Essendon's - and that really stunned me. I was sitting in the AFL members too, were there is an even mix of supporters for both clubs.

Maybe now they'll stop attending Bomber matches and go back to N'Synch and Backstreet Boys concerts!

I could say the same thing about Blues fans in late 1998, when the Bombers came from 26 points down to win on the siren. it was the match were Scott Lucas pounced on a Silvagni stuff up andkicked the winning goal. As we edged closer and closer, the Blues fans got quieter and quieter, even when the Blues exectued a goodpiece of play.

And anyway, it's a bit hard to criticize our fans (who turned up in greater number on Thursday than Carlton), simply because we didn't kick a goal in the last 20 minutes. There is not a lot to spontaneously cheer about in those circumstances is there? Naturally, the underdog win for the Blues is going to create a passionate environment for their fans. It would be the same for the Bombers if the situation was reversed.
