Ok So Here Goes
Seven teams make the Finals instead of eight this makes making the finals More of an achievement than being better than 40% say 55%

Then Week 1 Of Finals
Team 1 Week Off
Team 2 vs 3 (quialifying final)
Team 4 vs 7 (elimination Final)
Team 5 vs 8 (Elimination Final)

ok then Thats Week 1 Over
Week 2
Winner Of 2 v 3 has week off
Team 1 plays their own reserves side
Loser of 2v3 Plays against combined sides of losers of 4 v 7 and 5 vs 8
winner of 4 v7 and 5 v8 play each other

Week 3
Team 1 plays team 7 and advances to grand final regardless of the score
team 2 plays 3 again winner to grand final

team 1 plays winner of 2 v 3

Is that how the ARgus System worked in the 1930's

What happened to team 6??? No wonder you are f*****g up the AFL

Here Wayne. I've done it.

THE DIFINITIVE FINAL 7 (And it's fair to all)

In this system, team 1 only has to beat 1 team of 5-7 to guarantee a home preliminary final. They also get a weeks rest.

Whoever wins out of team 2 or 3 is guaranteed a week off and a home preliminary final.

Week 1
2 v 3 - winner to preliminary final
loser to second week
4 v 7 - winner to second week
loser is out.
5 v 6 - winner to second week
loser is out
TEAM 1 BYE

Week 2
1 v lowest placed winner ie 5
If team 1 wins
through to preliminary at home
Team 5 eliminated
If team 5 wins
Team 5 to prelim final away v team 2/3
Team 1 to prelim final away v team 3/4
3 v 4 Winner to preliminary final
Loser depending on 1 v 5 result.
If 5 win - loser is out
If 1 win - loser plays 1 in away prelim final
TEAM 2 - BYE

Week 3
Prliminary Finals
Winners to Grand Final
Top qualifyer v lowest placed qualifyer
1 v 4
2 v 3
Week 4
Grand Final

EXAMPLE - Current Ladder - highest team always wins (for the example)

Essendon
Carlton
North
Geelong
Melbourne
Bulldogs
Richmond

W1
Carlton v North
Geelong v Richmond
Melbourne v Bulldogs
Essendon BYE
Carlton to preliminary final
Richmond, Bulldogs Eliminated

W2
Essendon v Melbourne
North v Geelong
Carlton BYE
Melbourne eliminated
Others to Preliminary final.

W3
Essendon v Geelong
Carlton v North

W4

Essendon v Carlton

**** IF TEAM 1 LOSERS TO TEAM 5, TEAM 1 BECOME LOWEST PLACED QUALIFYER TO PRELIM ******

FINAL 7

WEEK 1
QF - 2ND V 3RD
EF1 - 4TH V 7TH
EF2 - 5TH V 6TH

WEEK 2
SF1 - 1ST V WINNER EF2
SF2 - LOSER QF V WINNER EF1

WEEK 3
IF 1ST WINS SF1 ...
PF - WINNER QF V WINNER SF2
WINNER PF PLAYS 1ST IN GF

IF 1ST LOSES SF1 ...
PF1 - 1ST V WINNER SF2
PF2 - WINNER QF v WINNER SF1
WINNERS PLAY OFF IN GF

WEEK 4
GF

If used this Year...

WEEK 1
QF - ADELAIDE v FREMANTLE - AAMI STADIUM
EF1 - SYDNEY v MELBOURNE - TELSTRA STADIUM
EF2 - COLLINGWOOD v ST.KILDA- MCG

WEEK 2
SF1 - WEST COAST v ST.KILDA - SUBIACO
SF2 - FREMANTLE v SYDNEY - SUBIACO

WEEK 3
PF - ADELAIDE v SYDNEY - AAMI STADIUM

WEEK 4
GF - WEST COAST v SYDNEY - MCG

By the look of the confused efforts I don't think a Final 7 is ever a goer. Way, way worse than the current system. The fairest system ever was the Final 5 where the first side go straight to the second semi and play directly for a spot in the GF. 2nd & 3rd then get a double chance in QF for a spot in the second semi. With a 16 team competition though a Final 5 wouldn't be be viable enough financially for the AFL, or for clubs as many would be "eliminated from the final's race much earlier, with the possibilty of affecting membership. The "8" hold interest for more teams for longer especially towards the end of the season.
