Has copped a couple of nasty fractures apparently. Tibia and ankle I am hearing.

A great pity - love the way he goes about it.

More tatts than a Moscow prison though.

Looks like it could be the end for Swanny

Hope not has been an absolute champion.

They were saying up to six months and he is not the biggest fan of the footballers life, so you could be right, shame to go out that way but he has a flag and Brownlow so he has achieved more than many.

Shocking injury, looked like a lower leg as soon as he did it, I thought that he'd broken his lower leg when he went off. Later on in the cast they were talking about a bad sprain, then it comes out later that he's totally banjaxed his leg.

Too bad, great player, but interested to know how long he'll be out for. Really difficult injury to recover from.

Agree.

Not many deserve the title of champion player but Swan does. Not only a gifted footballer but he played the game his way and could not give a shit what others thought about him.

He is one of my favorite non Tiger players, just oozes silk. Hope he recovers and gets back on the park as he does not deserve to go out that way. His tweet tonight is a prime example of what a down to earth bloke he is.

Can't believe he walked down the race into the rooms himself after breaking his leg and "multiple fractures" in his foot. Tough as nails. I wish 21 other guys tonight had half the heart he does.

Crazy what a load of adrenaline can do. Broke my arm one time and it was nowhere near the level of Swan's injury but I didn't really feel it until an hour or so after the injury.

He is done, as he said in the footy show he was only 50/50 about playing on next year and if the body let him down he may just pull the pin and go to Europe on holiday.

Sad news if that is the end.

Poor guy. Sounds like his dislocated his ankle hence the carnage.

Looked terrible.

Hopefully it's not the last game he plays. He's been a very durable player throughout his career so for him to go out like that would seem wrong.

If it is the end, he's been undoubtedly a champion, in his own unique way. He's achieved everything and has forged a distinguished career for himself that anyone would be proud to have had.

Yeah that sucks. Poor guy.

Deserves a farewell game at the end of the year but I don't know if it would going through all the rehab and fitness training just to get back there for one game.

really sad to see swanny suffer such a bad injury, absolute champ and i hope he comes back once he has recovered. He deserves to finish off his career in a better way!

Caught a plane with him once a day after he played. There was a replay of his game on (that I was watching) where he picked up a cool ~40 disposals. He watched the horse races the whole flight.

Was a curt but friendly, funny down to earth guy.

Love watching him play, he usually smashes the swans, love seeing someone who is all skill excell at the game. Love his individuality - hope it's not the end.

If he choose or is forced to retire I hope he stays in the game in some capacity.

He'd make a great special comments guy once he's detached from Collingwood and has more freedom to say what he likes.

Footy is a funny industry. Someone like Billy Brownless is a lovable larrikin and people lap up stories from the old timers of beers in the changerooms, footy trips etc. yet current players are expected to behave like robots - but 5 minutes after they retire they're no different to Joe Public.

Anyway I hope the injury isn't career ending and he can come back and make a meaningful contribution this season. He's barely missed 10 games in the last decade and has been very durable, and he doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke to show too much enthusiasm for months of rehab so it wouldn't surprise me if he was told he couldn't run for 3 months then came back 3 months later 10kg heavier with new tatts.:D

I can sympathise. I just shredded my ankle 3 days ago. Fell down some stairs while carrying my daughter. If I had been alone I could have rolled and cushioned the impact, but carrying an 18 month old, I had no choice but to dig my heel in and take the pain. And talk about searing pain... I bent the ankle sideways 90 degrees, I heard ligaments snapping, flesh tearing. It was enough to make my eyes water (and some sort of strangled scream of anguish while trying not to scare a little girl). I was spared the bone break, but it's going to be a long time before this ankle is anywhere close to ok. It's very hard to get around - you're a total cripple.

I've never done an injury like this - it really gives you an insight into what a severe sporting injury might be like. Life changes in a big way. It's time off work, being a crap partner and parent for a while. You feel really guilty when you are so useless - and having people wait on you, it's the worst. At least my little girl was uninjured.

I'm not especially a Swan fan, but I can sympathise with this injury a lot right now. It's a tough injury. Hard to get right.

very sad for swanny if this is the end of his career. really like him as a player.
also from the interviews i have seen him in he comes across as a bloke who doesn't take him self or footy too seriously which is refreshing IMO. you can not accuse him of being a robot or a cardboard cutout. if it's over for him i think he will move on with the rest of his life without regrets.

Geez mate sounds shocking. Hope it improves for you soon.

Recover with the knowledge it's probably not the last one you'll take to protect your little girl :)

Shades of Juddy. Was going to call it a day at the end of the previous year, went on and then a serious injury. No way for a champ to go out.
