Looks like it could be the end for Swanny

Hope not has been an absolute champion.
Oh dear. Against Geelong in the NAB he showed in one quarter just how devastating he can be.

Crazy what a load of adrenaline can do. Broke my arm one time and it was nowhere near the level of Swan's injury but I didn't really feel it until an hour or so after the injury.

I know what you mean. I broke my wrist and managed to drive myself to the doctors before the pain really set in.
Really hope Swanny makes a recovery and we see him on the football ground again - champion of the modern era.

I was really looking forward to seeing Swan played more as a close to goal forward this year. He is such a smart player it would have been great for the footy purists. Watching him in the role last year ( until injured ) against the Cats was unmissable viewing. A real old fashioned champ is Swan, one of my favourite players. Let's hope he can return and continue his stellar career.

Don't like to see those injuries happen. Has been a great of the game if he cannot come back from a very bad injury

Geez mate sounds shocking. Hope it improves for you soon.

Recover with the knowledge it's probably not the last one you'll take to protect your little girl :)
Thanks mate. Yeah, it's amazing what you'll do to protect your own child. I'd stand in front of a bus if I had to. They are the most precious thing you have - only understood this recently.

Not the way you want a star like Swanny to leave the game

While this may be a bit heartless, if he's smart then he won't return. If your career is ended by injury then you get an injury payout based on your existing salary. Means he could get 2 years pay for retiring. Not that he needs the money, but it also wouldn't hurt either.

Think it may be the end. Only saving grace being I don't think he wants to give up the cash, or go out on doughnuts.

Wonder if Ed will help him get a job at Triple M or something.

any cynics here thinking he timed the injury just as the AFL is about to come down hard on recrational drugs? haha

na love swanny. great player and great character. AFL needs more of him

saw injury end judds career last year too. never nice when greats don't go out on their own terms...

I can sympathise. I just shredded my ankle 3 days ago. Fell down some stairs while carrying my daughter. If I had been alone I could have rolled and cushioned the impact, but carrying an 18 month old, I had no choice but to dig my heel in and take the pain. And talk about searing pain... I bent the ankle sideways 90 degrees, I heard ligaments snapping, flesh tearing. It was enough to make my eyes water (and some sort of strangled scream of anguish while trying not to scare a little girl). I was spared the bone break, but it's going to be a long time before this ankle is anywhere close to ok. It's very hard to get around - you're a total cripple.

I've never done an injury like this - it really gives you an insight into what a severe sporting injury might be like. Life changes in a big way. It's time off work, being a crap partner and parent for a while. You feel really guilty when you are so useless - and having people wait on you, it's the worst. At least my little girl was uninjured.

I'm not especially a Swan fan, but I can sympathise with this injury a lot right now. It's a tough injury. Hard to get right.

Bad break mate. I too recently did a serious injury, snapping my Achilles tendon about 8 weeks ago playing cricket. It's a long road back, I've basically been laid up on the couch most of the time but was lucky I have an office job and got back to work after 2 weeks. If I worked outside I wouldn't back at work for about 6 months they reckon. I've only been allowed to put some weight on my leg this week.

Having 2 young kids makes it really hard with my wife having to do everything it's like having a 3rd child she said! The kids just want to play and you can't do much with them at all. Roughie when he did his Achilles came back to play in about 9 months but our surgeon said unless you are getting paid to play nothing less then 12 months...

Just hope Swanny gets back on the park would hate to see him go out this way.

Yeah, I was hit by a car when I was a teenager and got up bleeding everywhere and walked around with a double fracture of my tibia and significant soft tissue damage in my back. Bystanders lay me on the ground waiting for an ambulance to arrive and I kept on trying to get up and go home, telling everyone I was fine. After about 5 minutes my body seized up and I could move nothing but my left arm. Didn't walk unaided for the next 3 months.

As a parent you always say that if ever my child is in trouble, you will be their to protect them. While you are recovering from the injury Ando727, you may feel like a lousy partner or parent, but you were their for your child when they needed you. Well done and all the best with the recovery.

Now back on topic, Dane Swan is one of my favourite players that plays for the opposition. He looks a bit over weight, doesn't look as if he is an elite runner and would rather have a good time than look after himself. He would seem to be a regular suburban footballer. How looks can deceive.
Swan has got the best out of himself and has proved to be one of the few elite players in the afl. Hope he gets back soon.

We see injuries all the time in footy, but this looked particularly nasty.

Feel sorry for him, fractures in both his leg & foot. Hopefully, he recovers as fast as possible.
