Maybe this is why you don't give up on players, like say, Barham. He finds the footy and tackles well, needs to improve his disposal. I believe Barham has the potential to be a Liam Picken. Strangely enough both sons of Pies legends.

Unlike some of you i have always been a fan watched his games at williamstown and remember phil cleary raving about him kicked a didak like goal in one of his first games. What people failed to remember is that he was 17 at the time didnt think he was going to be drafted that year. Played some good games of HBF against chapman, okeefe always took good marks I remember one time there he was leading the marks as was playing off half back and some were saying how ridiculous player down back leading this stat but they dont say that about lake now. Will play his 150 game if pies make grand final which is way behind those he was drafted with pretty sure they are over a year in front of him e.g judd, ablett and hodge. Judd was built like a man when he was 18. He won the best first year player at willy in his first year and could play better than most we played some players in first against brisbane that year and swan was unlucky to miss out. Always could see the potential have followed him from the start

Understandable some of the comments that are coming out. Swannie has said himself that he was lazy and didn't do much to improve. We need to thank Johnson and Taz for getting him to where he is now!

Exactly so. And which of us hasn't posted shite over the years?

Don't think he's good enough. After a summer in the gym he might be a better prospect, but at the end of the day he is another midfield type player like many of our others.

Reasonable skill but prone to errors, no great depth in his kicking, one-paced, not especially good overhead, but a good football brain. In other words, no particular aspect of his game makes him stand out.

Might benefit from the tutelage of Guy McKenna.

LOL.

This is an epic bump.

i recall meeting swanny for the first time at a friend of a friends place back in his earlier years at the CFC. on the gear, he was an absolute ****wit who i really couldn't care less about; one of those spuds who would be dropped in a few years time and would be occasionally mention at the odd trivia night.

his article with ablett was a really good read. he is so much more chilled these days. it's great to see he has turned it around; one of, if not, the player in the comp. dunno if he is still a ****wit but i like ****wits nowadays; they are more interesting imo.

Wow what a walk down memory lane that was. Stretched my memory a little bit with names like Mullensnd Billy Morrison being listed in our key forwards.

Funny how that was also the year the 2 shaws came on to the list. Brayden was always going to be the better player and Heath was a 50/50 chance to make it.

Swan is the epitome of the triumph of footballer over athlete.

I'm not sure about that. Swan has footy nous and athleticism. He has the best endurance in the game, marathon like, plus break away pace/acceleration not to mention strength. If that aint athleticism I don't know what is. I'd call him the triumph of substance over style.

Swan punched my brother in the back of the head when they were playing at Jets and wherever Swanny played. Hopefully by next monday he will be able to say he got punched in the back of the head by a brownlow medalist.

Yep you're probably right Quicky. I think that was what I was getting at. The thing with Swan is there is no big trick. He just works hard and wills himself to be better.

Substance over style is a much better description.

Well. I always thought Swanny would make it. I just thought (after his !st or 2nd season) he would be a solid HFF ot FP goal sneak.

So I guess I was right & wrong.:p
