Omg Frawley's not worth Pick 3!!!!! Second rounder @ best!!!!!!

All this talk of Beams and Dangerfield is disappointing. After missing out on Blicavs this trade period will always seem like a loss.

If I could be certain the Saints would take McCartin at 1 then I wouldn't want to trade 2 or 3. Petracca and Brayshaw along with Jones, Tyson, Viney and Salem really would transform this club within a few years .

I love after every single year of failure at the draft since god knows when we just assume that brayshaw and petracca will come good

You don't recognise the difference ? They're both big bodied mids with good pace.

Scully = small
I like Trengove, but the foot/pace has curtailed him
Watts = complete and utter softcork
Toumpas = weak in the contest
Morton = see above
Gysberts = weak, slow and no endurance

If you can't see the difference with two big bodied inside mids with Petracca and Brayshaw, who thrive on contested footy then it says far more about you and your footy acumen then anything else.

Not to mention the fact we have an admin / coaching team with a proven record of development

Ffs, neeld / prenderghastly / Cameron etc ain't here any more

This is why I giggle at other supporters and 'experts' in the media when they talk about us getting high picks and then stuffing them up. The amount of turnover of staff in recruiting and development means, IMO, anything done 3-5 years ago means nothing now; and that goes for all teams, really.

If Scully was small, then Toumpas is microscopic. I doubt he'll ever be useful in a contest - what the hell was Neeld doing choosing Toumpas over Wines? I was annoyed at the time, now I'm livid after the season Wines has had. Most players of Toumpas' stature are forward pocket goalsneaks. Wonder if he has any potential for that role?

Yes because we were so aware of those guys deficiencies when we took them .....

Don't assume
Plenty of star kids don't make it

Do you realise how often recruiters watch these players and over how many years ?

They're paid to have foresight and a strong understanding of player's deficiencies. If they weren't aware of these issues no wonder they just about ruined the club.

The success rate of big bodied inside mids in the top 10 is far greater than any other player category. No player is perfect, but Petracca and Brayshaw are beasts for their age and thrive on contests. They're about as rolled gold certainties as you get at junior level.

Scully - 181 cm 78kg
Toumpas - 183 cm 79kg.
This after Scully being in the system several seasons longer than Toumpas.
Hindsight says we, along with every other club who passed on Wines got that wrong, but it is seriously time to move on.

Don't know what sort of inside info he is privy to but Shannon Byrnes dad reckons 2&3 for Dangerfield is very close to being done and when it goes through we'll pull the trigger on the trengove trade or similar to get back into the first round of the draft. Would rather keep trengove than take a chance on a mid first rounder myself.
Grain of salt and all that

I don't think the Doggies are going to shed too many tears with Stringer and Macrae. Other than Whitfield, GWS haven't had much joy out of their five top 15 picks from that draft pool.

One thing I'm certain about is that we won't be trading both 2 and 3.

Are those statistics confirmed correct? If so, I'm very surprised. I remember the draft lineup when Toumpas was standing near Wines and it was like David standing next to Goliath. Toumpas just looks so small next to average players. But if those numbers are right, I stand corrected.

Taken from player bios on respective club websites.
Scully is not an overly big player, neither is Toumpas.
Wines is a bull.

Agree.

We'd have to offer up something great to get Danger - but 2 and 3 is overs for almost any player in the comp.

Yep, agreed. People say draft picks are over rated when you are talking about a proven, exceptional player. But looking back, I'd take picks 2 and 3 from each of the last ten drafts over Dangerfield more often than not.

Watts = complete and utter softcork

Would that be the old style cork that floats or the modern twist type?

I wonder how Watts or any of those other players would have developed if they had of being drafted into a team with an excellent development program like Hawthorn or Sydney. I don't have the answer.
