C'mon. All of the excuses have to stop.

He is injured. He is getting tagged without support. His ruckman is down on form. We need a new midfield coach.

Enough is enough. He is down on form and needs to lift. Thats the end of it.

My post was more so a crack at the rest of our gutless midfielders. Sloane Thommo Danger are all hard nuts, rest are as Wayne Weidemann put it "choir boys"

It is tough having all this pressure on him to win the hard ball when others around him just prance around the outskirts of the pack looking for a cheap kick

We'd have two at most - Mackay and Vince. Van Berlo, Wright, Crouch and Douglas are all trying their damnedest, it's just we're still no good at the contest.

Douglas has improved no question
Wright is a shadow of his 2012 form
Crouch will be a gun but too young at this stage to expect him to dominate in the middle
VB a plodder and captain of the choir boys

So you're saying we should have put the cue in the rack in 97 and 98 when we were 2-3 at the end of 5 rounds as well? Maybe tried for success in '99 instead after Modra went down?

Have you seen how poorly we're playing this year?

You may not have been old enough in 97 and 98 to notice, but we played far worse than this for the first 5 rounds of both. We also lost a Showdown to Port at home and Carlton in Melbourne both years - in the first 5 weeks.

1997 was such a good start it even included an effort against Richmond in round 2 that was so bad the coach labelled our lead ruckman 'pathetic'.

No-one said 'Thank god Modra is gone. Let's chuck it in and see if we want to go with Tom Gilligan or Ian Downsborough at CHF for season '99.'

Great post

98 . alsolost a Showdown to Port at home and Carlton in Melbourne

What's even more salient was how shithouse Carlton were in 98. They lost eight on the trot after that Round 1 win against us.

We were 3 wins from the first 8 rounds that season.

Just for old times sake, I wanted Sando to do the same with Sauce last week.

Does anyone get the feeling there's a "clique" in our playing group?

he is getting tagged massively & heavily (getting thumped, bumped, whacked)

Agree with this and this is why Riley should be in the side to put on some blocks and protection in the stoppages

We need our midfield to start working as a unit and by doing so provide more protection to Danger

nope - if anything the playing group is quite strong - just listen to them speak in the media, on social media even at the shed after the games there seems to be a mutual respect amongst them all

I didn't say thank god Walker is gone. But he is, clearly you need to deal with it. And I think his loss will prove a blessing in disguise when we have a 2 pronged forward structure next year.

Please explaaane

Dangerfield,Thomson, Rielly, Van Berlo,Vince, it appears are starting to get a legacy of having two speeds. I can't add Rutten,Walker and the like into that because there very reliant on what happens in the middle. But these names, are in position to control games. Seem to all drop or increase output as a group. Sloane is not in there, it is evident his intent at all times.

Dont care what optimists are out there. Walker is a massive loss and will undoubtably affect our potential this year. Huge loss

Danger is the most talented player to come along for long time even back to Roo and Mcleods early years and can do amazing things with strength and speed .
But honestly believe his efforts so far that his ratings in top 50 etc and gushing by Vic scribes in particular is over rated so far.
Yes has done those match winning efforts like goals kicked this year but unlike Watson , Murphy ,Selwood , Ablett etc he does not hurt opposition enough regularly during game by spending more time scrapping on ground rather than busting game open getting clear and putting ball to team advantage as most kicks are under pressure or brain fade type kicks
Dont know if down to old habits to become the player could be or
Our structure or team make up .
Coaches requirements or role asked.
Poor rucks or centre bounce tactics.
Carrying injuries.
But cannot put down to being tagged as all those other team stars get tagged each week as well.
Not knocking Danger as our best player especially now Tex out but just think he has been rated higher than he has earnt so far .
One of problems that our stars have had to endure is that every week have to carry passengers in team.
Hopefully with maturity of Crouch and Smith into mid say next year and ball getter like Lyons maybe Danger can use that amazing talent more .

He was good today, just needs a little more composure though when kicking, always his caviet. He kicks full pace and sprays a lot rather then just taking an extra half second to steady and slow down.

I think he messed up one kick running at full pace and a couple of others where he just simply missed a target, but I thought his kicking and composure was outstanding this game, well above average and not just Dangerfield average but AFL midfielder average. Most clearances are just hacked kicks forward as far as possible but time after time Danger used his pace to concede a bit of ground but buy himself some time, swing onto his left and actually kick it to a player so we had control of the ball forward of the centre. That's pretty difficult to keep your head and find a target with an opponent right behind you and kicking to a guy who has almost no space on the guy he is playing on.

Yeah thought he kicked beautifully to be honest always put it out in front and to the advantage of our leading player. Was the complete game :thumbsu:
