Dangerfield

I was wondering what everyone's expectations are on Dangerfield?

If Danger turned out to be another Reily would he even break par?

perhaps there are more people with the expectations of a potential Chris Judd from West Coast?

I think people would consider a Reilly result to be disappointing for Dangerfield, but they wouldn't expect him to necessarily be Chris Judd. I would assume the expectation would be for him to be reaching Scott Thompson levels in a few years time.

Thommo level, but with better pace, better kick at goal and less holding the ball calls (better decision making). :thumbsu: but definitely give him a few years first.

In The Locker Room Thread someone says that Trigg announced it on 5AA.

He certainly did.

Triggy was asked whether that was a request from Roo for Dangerfield to wear the #32. Triggy didn't quite answer that question. Rather he said that Roo was pleased with the selection of Dangerfield to wear his old guernsey number.

While I'm not suggesting that Dangerfield will be another Mark Ricciuto in his game style, I'm very confident that in his own way he will do the jumper proud. :thumbsu:

Great choice. :thumbsu:

It shows just HOW much faith and belief they have in the kid. Dont need to tell anyone how much Roo is revered around the club.

Excellent move, lets hope he can do the great number justice

Apart from pace, those things aren't exactly strengths of his game.

Confidence, strength, balance.

His "Core stability" :p

His goalkicking isn't so bad though, is it? I haven't seen much footage of him kicking on goal but he seemed to have a good goal/points ratio from recollection in the TAC Cup this year. Though maybe that's just because he was getting it close to goals all the time? Or having the ball kicked over his head and just having the speed to swoop it up goalside of his opponent and run in for the easy kick?

Do we know yet whether Dangerfield requested the number, or was offered it?

It was offered by the club with Mark Ricciuto giving his blessing in fact he thought it was a great idea. – Same source Steven Trigg on 5AA

Yeah, core stability...ties in with balance and strength. Really helps with his pace too.

His kicking for goal isn't really a strength. It's not a weakness, like his field kicking and decision making are. But yeah, I'd say his goal kicking is just fine - neither here nor there.

Was just watching some Geelong Falcons clips the other day. Seems to have grown a fair bit, must be 190+ and looks to have maybe lost a bit of mobility? Could he potentially play KP at AFL level?

Just wondering VC who would you rate Blease 2008 vs Dangerfield 2007?

Yeh, makes sense.

Incidently (forgive the barrage of questions but I like to pick your brain ;) ), I heard people who watch the TAC Cup say that his decision making and disposal has improved a fair bit this year. Perhaps it's still a weakness but is it really significantly better? It would be a comfort if it was, since often it seems like we recruit youngsters with poor skills and they just never improve even one bit.

As for the KP question, I'd say no. I don't think he's really lost too much mobility. He still has good evasive skills, but I'm pretty sure he's only just 190cm. He's got the right build for a modern mid.

Danger vs. Blease? Tough call, but a really good comparison. Bottom aged and weren't noted ball winners as 17 year olds, but always excited when they did get the ball. Both have a lot of pace and suspect kicking/decision making. I'd probably give Blease the nod, just for the tie breaker that he's ridiculously clean below his knees. I rate him just outside Top 10 at the moment and last year I had Danger around the 20 mark.

Yes, he has improved this significantly this year. I'm sure the club are very happy with his development in these areas of his game. He only needs to get himself up to an adequate level of decision making and disposal, because his other weapons will be what makes him stand out. As long as those don't end up being stand out deficiencies, then the Crows will be laughing!

Confidence, strength, balance.

Very good overhead marking for a player of his type.

Also versatility. The ability to play potentially match changing roles both out of a forward pocket, and in the midfield.

Chases hard, and wasnt brushed off tackles too often.

Really, when you watch a bit of his game, its hard not to be impressed.

Biggest weakness is in his disposal. I get the feeling sometimes hes running almost too fast when he goes to kick.
